johnnies--

No comments on the FSN feature on Gags last night or was it a replay of an old piece?  It was the first time I had seen it and I thought it was very well done.

Sauer looked good again against Hamline.  He is completing almost 75% of his passes, but will need time versus the vaunted john's rush.   As OAS stated earlier, PJ Thiesen had a great game, 4 TD catches in one half.  He has got to be a lock for one of the all conference receivers slots, he is having a great year.

If Sauer continues to play this way should make for an interesting battle next season for QB.  He sure is poised, but the true test will come this weekend.

Hey johns, 3 words....Arizona versus UCLA ,.....who would've thought.

I missed the Gagliardi feature.  I wish I would have seen it.

knights, a serious question.

It seems to me that STU's stats are much better than their record.  They are second, third or fourth in most of the team stats, yet are struggling to maintain a winning season.  Have they run it up big against the easy beats and been nipped by the mid-packs or are they woefully underperforming in the scoring situations on both O and D?

With Rowan's loss,  the Johnnies will likely move up to 2nd in the Coaches poll.  Could this have some influence in play-off seeding with the other two polls have WW 2nd.

No, the regional poll is the only meaningful poll from an NCAA standpoint.

ROR--
Yeah, he had been advise to sit out the rest of the year about 2 weeks ago then  he was ok'd to practice last Tuesday and tried, but his knee was still not responding so the coaches didn't want to risk injury and have advised him to consider coming back as a 5th year senior since he will not graduate until December 2006.  He is not sure whether he will do that or not.
He has been helping out the kid who is taking his place who is a frosh (Nick Shannon) and was 3rd deep on the depth chart when the season began.  His initial replacement, Jay Greavu, is a converted WR and has done a good job but is banged up as well, so the frosh has started the last two games.  Not sure if Jay will be back for STU or not.

Oz,

I think your assessment is pretty accurate, they have run up some big numbers (pad the stats) against the lower tiered teams but have also been on the opposite end of that spectrum against STO and Conc.  Coe was a game they should have won if they could have made one first down when they needed to.
I think they are just undersized up front and get worn down defensively especially when earlier in the season the offense wouldn't stay on the filed very long.  The defense seems to be playing better lately (again consider the competition) and they have made some adjustments so guys get a rest periodically which seems to keep them fresher in the 2nd half.
I like the way the offense has responded to Sauer, granted he hasn't had to face Conc or Bethel or SJU but he throws a nice pass and is decisive with his reads.  As far as stats go, I don't know what to make of them since I haven't reviewed them but I think STU is coming into the game as well as they could be expected, sans a few injuries, but they have won 3 straight and have a QB and receivers that should be able to move the ball.  But o-line will have to do a great job of blocking to give Sauer time, which may make my points moot.
That said they will have to play an almost perfect game to beat the johns.  I expect sju to come in with something to prove to themselves, if no one else, since I am sure most will think sju in a romp.

I'll weigh in on my assessment, and to no surprise to Dusty, I'm nervous.  Not because we can't win this game, or because UST can out-heart us, but because I think we'll lack focus.  I think we'll come into this game thinking about the playoffs and looking past UST, while the Toms will come up looking to win one to salvage an otherwise forgettable and rough season.   As such, the offense will turn the ball over or make the UST defense look pretty good for a while. Ubbelhode will have a tackle or two for loss, and the SJU rushing game will go backwards.  The SJU defense will take a series to warm up.  I think it will be 14-7 SJU at halftime, with 7 of SJU's points being a defensive or special teams score.

Then, after the team gets a good halftime tongue-lashing, the monkey-stomp occurs.  But it will be an ugly first half, unfortunately.

Duffman--
So I assume the FSN piece wasn't a repeat?  Did any of your brethren see it?  They interview a number of ex-players Linneman and Mike Grant where the two that come to mind along with comments from his kids as well administrative types.  They had video clips from old games and some more current stuff.  As I said it was well done and a nice tribute.

Knights,
You're the only person I've heard from that saw it.  From my investigation on TVguide.com, it looked to be a new one, but they don't have any additional airings for it.  I'm guessing it was quite similar to most pieces on John, but it's nice to see positive pieces on a man I admire so much.  Thanks for the heads-up!

Was the Gagliardi piece the same one that they showed on CSTV about two months ago? That one featured Mike Grant almost exclusively. I asked earlier if anyone has seen the NCAA Championships ad they run on ESPN-U. They were still running it this weekend. That has what looks like Mt Union's TD in the 2000 Stagg, as well as Steffensmeier giving a fistpump after the 2003 game.

Also to Redtackle. If you look from very early on, OAS has a quote in his postscript done in the third person. It has become even more popular after Kyle Gearman was quoted using the third person in a newspaper article. I don't know when you studs in the LL posts started it, but you can hardly claim proprietary ownership.

Casey, Theissen and Sauer should make a good nucleus at UST next season on offense.

The again I thought the same about Barkley, Hilliard, Learn and Ambrassas back in 2002 but they were 5-5.

Can't figure out the Tommie ineptitude.

Sauer vs Kofoed should be a nice matchup.

Didn't see the one you are referrring to, but this one had comments from a number of people with Mike Grant being just one, so it may have been a differnt piece.  Mike Grant wasn't shown exclusively and it had lots of comments from guys from the the early years.  Too bad more of you didn't see it.  It was on at around 10 or 10:30 last night after the Wild game so it may have been filler and not regularly scheduled.
