"I don't understand kickers," Gagliardi ranted.

John should have left it at that.  The kicking issues are in my mind a coaching issue as much as anything.

Tmert,
I can no longer gloat! the hated Bruins did in the men of Troy! Fortunately, I was watching the J's BB team run their record to 3-0 with a drubbing of St. Mary's so I didn't see the game. If USC can't beat UCLA they don't belong in the championship game! :-[

What goes around, comes around I guess.  That was not the same SC team that played last week.  But I have to say that UCLA deserved this one (and I was not rooting for them).  Guess it means a switch with the Skunkbears for the Rose Bowl.   Not a bad fall back.

The Song Girls rock.  The rest of SC, well ...  :-X

If that's the case, I certainly won't have to worry about my loyalties being divided in the BCS Title game! ;D

The problem is that there is no kicking coach.

Ok, rested and ready to comment and/or ramble:

Veek and Veek, Sr., great to have you guys down here on Friday night, had a good time, thanks for staying.
TDT-glad you finally arrived late Friday-had a good time Saturday.
JR-thanks for the tailgate and the burgers-they were excellent. And, yes, Kofoed needs to the run the ball if he has open field in front of him.
JanesvilleFlash-it was nice to meet you and partake of the beverages-it was a pleasure to talk to you before the game and at half time.
As for the game:
I thought SJU played well; however, the play that bothered me was the long pass completion in the second quarter-how does #17 not get to that ball? He was sort of in position-that was just a bad play and lead to their first score. Otherwise, the defense played a heck of game.
On offense, Kofoed made some great play calls at the line and some very nice passes. I can't fault him much on the interception that was returned, except I was hoping he was going to throw into the endzone. Kofoed has improved from last year to this year and he need to improve some more if he wants to be a great QB-he does need to know that it is ok to run the ball when there is open field.
On the field goal try for SJU-Gags was walking the other way with his head down right before the kick with a pained expression on his face-I wonder who talked him into trying the FG? And what was with some of the play calling-why did SJU keep dunning that RB motion sweep, for NO gain. I know that ran it once to set up that trap or inside give off the same motion for a first down, but after that stop with the play-was that Jimmy?

Just a little more:

Thought #95 for UWW was an outstanding player and saw him made a great spin move to get into the backfield. When UWW needed a big play, he was there-hats off. But I did see SJU make some nice blocks on him ,as well and gave Kofoed time to throw. SJU also wisely used the roll out to buy some time.

And what is with the UWW section sayin "you F***ed up" when there was a penalty and right after the announcer said please no profanity. Pretty classless.

Good luck to the UWW football team the rest of the year.

SJU should be an outstanding team next and will be ready for another re-match.

BDB-thanks, also, for the mugs.

Congrats on your  run this year.  I didn't pick up the video but it sounds like your boys played em tight.

KR, You may have seen more games this year than I have (today was my first), but from what I saw, the problem with the kicking game might not be the kicker. It looked to me like the snaps were just enough off that it threw the timing off. Anyone, Anyone, Bueller?

I guess with Kofoed, you get the good with the bad. Very good when good, and some bad decisions when bad. I do think, however, that he balances out on the plus side. The second TD pass to Weber was all Kofoed, and probably not too many others could have kept the play alive and thrown such a nice ball like he did.

I would have thought that the Johnnies had won the statistical battle. I guess the sacks really had an effect on the rushing stats. I figured the J's had well over 100. I'll have to look at the negative yardage.

Fair enough, at the 3 games I was at, it seemed like even with perfect snaps the kicks weren't that great.

All in all, a great season! Congrats to the Johnnies, you have nothing to be ashamed of and it was all left on the field as it should be.

Seniors, congrats and welcome to the after-life.
Underclassmen, build on this year's accomplishments and come back hungry!

Congrats to UWW, best of luck on the rest of the road to the Stagg!

Congrats on a succesfull season and an outstanding showing yesterday in the Perk.  It was a great game and but for a few breaks here and there the outcome could have been different.  Your team was well prepared and played hard.  The defensive front seven may have been the quickist we've seen all season, they really did a number on our running game, and #19 played like a stud offensively.  Any WARHAWK fan who had deluded themselves into thinking the game would be like last year was rudely awakened.

You guys brought a nice crowd too.  I noticed your tailgate but unfortunately previous committments kept me from coming over.  I hope, the game aside, you enjoyed your visit and your travels were safe.

So, who's the guy in the Mount Union garb?

MUC(k)'s West Region Scout.

He's been scouting SJU games for them since the early 2000's. There's actually a video camera hidden in his purple hat that he uses to record his own game films to send to Kehres.

KR,
Be careful with that bet. Now that we're officially in Hot Stove time, I'll relay a true Bethel cautionary tale:

Old Baptist couple, who sent all their kids to then-BC,  ran a bait shop on Mille Lacs. We were up ice fishing and stopped by to stock up and say hi. We'd known 'em for years. We gave them a sample of mom's pickled herring and they couldn't get enough. Asked for the recipe.

Saw them the next spring and they said they like the herring recipe but it sure didn't taste like our stuff.

Turns out they'd substituted for the wine -- and used ginger ale instead ....

All points of the game have been hashed and rehashed by now so I only wanted to add my congratulations on a terrific showing by the Johnnies on the field and in the parking lot as well as a very successful year.  Haven't seen a defense shut the Hawks down like that since Texas.  Speed kills and SJU always has plenty of it!  Could not believe how they converted like.........every 3rd down.........and we couldn't.  Toward the end of the game, I was just hoping that the law of averages would finally stop a 3rd and 4th down conversion (well I guess they stopped the one 4th down that counted,) cuz the Hawks sure couldn't!   ;D  Having said that, the UWW defense won that game putting the O in position to score the final TD. They were on the field wwwwwaaaaayyyyy tooo much but delivered when needed! Defense wins Championships............
The Johnnies, their fans and their legendary coach showed why they are national contenders every year.  Congrats again on a great season and my utmost respect to all.

My thanks to SJU56321, Veek and everyone else who brought culinary delights and adult beverages to the Stiftungsfestivities yesterday. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. Nice to meet JanesvilleFlash in person and the microbrew was very good. The brew is something that I know Paris Hilton would enjoy. 8)

The game was frustrating to watch at times. We should have, could have won this one. Congrats to the WarHawks on the win and bring home the Stagg Bowl title to the West Region.

Got to watch the second half of the USC-UCLA game with my Badger son in Madison. Still would like to see a OSU-Michigan rematch for the title game.

Next athletic event of note: Gophers vs. Oklahoma State in wrestling this coming Tuesday night at the U of M. #1 going against #2.
