Mighty Royal,

I don't know your age or how you were brought up.  Being almost 50 and having raised 4 boys.  The trouble does not lie with lawyers or cops.  The trouble is with all the liberal crap.  That poor mom can not use corporal punishment any more without being a child beater.  I used it on my kids and I don't think they turned out badly.  I have seen stories on here about the nuns, brothers, and priests in schools.  I think that the mother did what she had to do to bring home a point to her kid.  Her kid takes a swing at the school cop and gets kicked out of school.  Seems to me he is a candidate for prison already.  I think he needs a huge swift kick in the a$$.

I totally agree...I just think turning ur kid in because he used a freakin' gameboy is ridiculous...spanking is totally legit and I back it like you do and I am no stranger to it....when I was little I got "THE STICK"....Freakin' Hot pink ruler that my mom brought out...freakin' hurt like a mother, but I rarely did whatever it was I was doing again..

Well, this is certainly enlightening. If only the mother would've/could've(?) beaten her kid more, none of this ever would have happened.
Unfortunately, it seems this mother's problems, and the kid's, derivatively, go a bit deeper than that. More unfortunately, it ends up being "our judicial system" that has to deal with messes like these.
Just hope the kid has size and speed. :D

MR- it hurt like a MOTHER because your mother was bringing the PAIN. Part of it was the actual stick, but part was the intimidation factor of you being struck by the one who nurtured you. It's similar to when a Grizzly sow kicks a$$  on the cubs for messing around after she's just killed a deer and the cubs think it's all fun and games- that's sweet.
Next week we will discuss the phenomenon known as "old man strength" ;D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Peekin' in the windows?  Fins, you seem to be confusing church with Hooters.  ::)

And speaking of church, I thought of the MIAC PP when I was listening to the gospel this past Sunday ...

from carousing and drunkenness
and the anxieties of daily life, ... "

Hawaii's 3 losses have come to the teams of Alabama, Boise State, and Oregon State by a combined 18 pts.  Boise is undefeated, OSU beat USC and Bama is not good.  It's just the other 8 or 9 teams they beat are Fresno, Nevada, and UNLV to name a few.  So strength of schedule isn't bad, it's just not good enough for Heisman credentials.

Even though Colt Brennan has done some amazing things at QB, he will most likely get to show it in the arena league someday.

Fins,

That is a problem with the view of corporal punishment.  You feel that any time a spanking is used that its a beating.  I beg to differ.  My dad when used always to me what the punishment was for and where I had went wrong.  It was a helpful reminder on what not to do.  Beating serve no purpose but to build a wall between the parents and child.  I think that the proper use of corporal punishment serves a child well.  The at risk falicy (spelling)  that all corporal punishment is wrong is a joke.  That's what is wrong with our country.  Becasue someone is at risk of doing wrong then we can't do it at all.  Any one who beats a kid should be in trouble.  I was not advocating a beating for that kid.

Worse than any spanking was when my old man would let it bottle up for days and not say a word to you - my siblings and I still joke about the silent treatment.

Think I saw your little bro in the skyway downtown.  He working down here now?

Dease told the St. Thomas student newspaper, The Aquin, that the emergency room doctor examined him and then dispensed two bits of bad news. First:  "Your shoulder is dislocated." Second:  "I'm a Johnnie."
...
Despite affiliations, Dease's shoulder is healing well and he's is back at work.[/i]

That is so strange, just the other day I had a parallel experience:

First: "No green onions for your Chalupa." Second: "I'm a Tommie."

Hey, Nimrod, just when did I say any time a spanking is used it is a beating?

You're starting to get under my skin now. Go smack your kids, I'm heading over to the WIAC board to sing Kumbaya with Olinemom and UWsuperfan. :P

Not to turn this into a spanking forum, ahem, but I'll throw in my two cents. Or my wife's. She's been a nanny for seven years, and makes Super Nanny look like a slacker (if I do say so myself). She was as tough as a disciplinarian as possible with the kids she was with, and brought many rowdy, out of control kids under control. And never spanked. She always said spanking is not about punishing the kid, it's about the parent's aggression and them being unable to control it. It's about their anger about their child misbehaving, and when you spank you're teaching the child that when they do something wrong, people who love them hit them. No, that doesn't mean it's a beating. So if the fact some people are able to discipline kids without spanking them is what's wrong with this country, so be it. Then again, she's from South Africa    ;D

Man oh man, never thought I'd get sucked into this but here goes (wouldn't it better better if we'd been talking about SJU vs. Wesley????)

If you can't differentiate between spanking and beating, it's wrong. If you can't separate spanking and aggression, it's wrong.

Bottom line: Kids want, need and crave limits. How you set them ought to be your business (within reason). If you spank 'em, you don't do it in anger or on impulse, you set the rules, you example the rules and you enforce the rules.

It's kids and parents with uneven rules/punishments/rewards and no limits where you get the problems. Do it right and they'll respect you for it.
