I think John may be staying on the left coast.  He had a great time out here over the weekend, meeting with Johnnie alums and supporters and picking up another award - this time the Lifetime Achievement award from a group called the Positive Coaching Alliance.  The director of the PCA is from Fargo and mentioned his disappointment that John didn't recruit him out of high school (he was a 130 lb qb at West Fargo High - he ended up at Mac).

They taped an interview session with John on Saturday, with the PCA director asking John a series of questions, which John politely ignored and instead used as setups for some of his favorite material.  They videotaped the interview but I doubt they'll be able to use much of it.  Later, at the dinner Saturday night John deadpanned through some of his best stuff.  His stuff may not be new, but the folks out here hadn't heard it before and the Johnnies in the audience didn't care.  There were about 60 Johnnies in the audience, counting wives and families - Johnnies from Minneapolis, Southern California, Seattle and all over - as well as newbies like us .  Among them were six or seven members of the SJU 63 national championship team who were recognized at the dinner.

Part of the day involved a tour of the athletic facilities at Stanford, which was the locus of all the events.  John said he had been impressed by the facilities at Notre Dame when he was there last summer to pick up his CFHOF award - until he saw the facilities at Stanford.  The facilities are simply unbelievable - whatever you have, Stanford has two or three of them, impeccably maintained.  As an example, a lot of schools don't have a 50 meter swimming pool but Stanford has two - as well as a separate 25 meter competition pool with grandstands on both sides.  And of course they're all outside - they don't need indoor pools at Stanford given the weather they have.

One of John's better requests during the day was for a covered stadium with a retractable roof.  Brother Dietrick was present but I didn't seem him pulling out his checkbook.   8)

Was watching ESPN News this afternoon and they started talking about that TE from Whitworth that is at the combine and they talked a lot about Ryan Hoag being the last D3 player at the combine. Its always fun to hear a familiar name. Is Ryan out of the league for good?

just last year ryan was playin still for the vikes, talked to him a bit at training camp...as as long hes got that speed, he'll be a practical special teamer!

So I'm watching the movie Falling Down today (starring Michael Douglas) and I noticed in a scene in a c-store that there were cases of Hamms available for purchase.  Just thought that everyone should know.

I read in the Star Trib in Oct or Nov that Hoag signed with the Redskins practice squad. Don't know if that was correct or still the case.

Still waiting for Wonka to give back my shirt  >:(
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

I'm sure everyone watched the Oscars last night. Always nice to see Al Gore on tv. This morning on KQ they mentioned that if Gore does run for president in `08, his first line on making his announcement that he is in the race will be "It's either me, a ho, or a bro!" I'm know all you Democrats out there would appreciate that.

Anyone going to be making it to the state wrestling tournament this week at the Xcel Center?

Duffman-help me out here-I found this qoute from MIACmaniac on the hoops site: VOJ-- as you SJU football fans are quick to note, success lures talented transfers to SJU for football (and the list of D-I and II transfers who have helped SJU football is rather long)...maybe the same applies elsewhere in other sports? (Bold type not in original). Duff-can you list the D-I transfers SJU has snagged in the last 10 years? Help.

I can't think of any DI transfers since my time (since the 1999 season).  Ryan Keating did play DI basketball, but to call him a DI transfer in regards to football is misleading.

An elderly guy walks into a new pub and sees a sign hanging over the bar which reads:

#1 CHEESEBURGER: $1.50
#2 CHICKEN SANDWICH : $2.50
#3 HANDJOB: $10.00

Checking his wallet for the necessary payment, he walks up to the bar and beckons to one of the three exceptionally attractive women serving drinks to a meager looking group of men.

"Yes?" she inquires with a knowing smile, "can I help you?"

"I was wondering", whispers the man, "are you the one who gives the #3?"

"Yes", she purrs, "I am."

The man replies "Well wash your hands, I want a cheeseburger."

Johnnie hoops host Loras College Thursday night at 7:00 at Sexton! If they win they have the honor of going to UW-Stevens Point and playing the Pointers. Pointers are #1 rated team in the nation!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run
