Wahoo-  I think the reason they don't (want to) remember us, is that the game where they beat us when we had the ball at the end on the goalline, cost them their playoff berth that season.  The best part is that they had a long td catch to begin the game, their wr highstepped into the endzone, got a penalty, pissed us off and fired us up for the rest of the game.  Although we lost, costing them the playoffs was nice.

All this talk has gotten me wondering.  Does anyone know the origin of the term "shotgun"?  Nothing about it resembles anything related to an actual shotgun, aside from the hole in the can, so I just wnated some input.

I've been wondering this myself. In addition, I've always seen a different shotgun technique that involves drinking through the drinking hole after piercing an air hole in the bottom of the can. This drinking through the side thing is something I've never seen before. Were I any good at shotgunning beers, I'd try this alternative technique in the contest. Unfortunately, coupling my ineptitude with the fact that my folks are going to be visiting from NoDak, and I'm going to have to refrain from joining in.

You mean to tell me they would not be proud to tell all their friends that their son won the SJU Hamm's Shotgunning Championship?

I think it's less a matter of pride and more a matter of "we haven't seen you since July and this is how you're going to entertain us?"

Think about it...

Sactioned technique: small drink hole for a fixed-volumn fluid with a large air hole for a variable-volume gas. There's more than enough air flow, but not nearly enough beer flow.

[Possibly] Unsactioned technique: large drink hole for the fixed-volume fluid with a small air hole for the variable-volume gas. The beer can flow more easily and the air can keep up.

I dunno. It sounds like a good experiment. I was just an art major, Duffman was the science guy. Some daring Johnnie student could turn this into a term paper.

Shoes, I think you are underestimating the size of the drink hole in the sanctioned technique.  You can make it whatever size you'd like.  Myself, I generally go with a 2.0 cm wide X 1.5 cm high hole.  Plenty big.  Now, the only question is:  did I list it in centimeters because I am a scientist or because I am Canadian ?

KR, I find that I get a little extra flow with 0.787 X 0.591 inches.
