The "comments" section of the story says Luberts has hired Tom Lies as his attorney.

You know him, fins? What a name... ???
Yeah, he's a Little Falls native, good guy. Pronounced "lease". But years ago I actually heard some dude say he hired him because he wanted an attorney with the name "Lies", as in "doesn't tell the truth".
Wondering if there's a LF connection here.

Aren't those comments interesting?

Finsleft,

What is the typical time frame for something like this to proceed?  I will be interested to hear the takes of the rest of the MIAC PP Dream Team.

Hmm...  Damn shame.  And the girl's parents called her in as a runaway.  I good guess would be that she was already struggling with *teen issues*.  All the attention of a felonious sexual conduct (or whatever) trial wont be easy for her.

I hope the kid can adjust.

I agree, he shouldn't worry about homework, and if he does intend to worry about homework it shouldn't be from SJU.

Maybe we should all be a little nicer when we have arguments on the internet.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Only a nerd would post that story.

Rumor has it TDT modeled his bus driving skills after his hero from Hayfield, Minn.

TDT drove a bus?

I can attest to this as I in fact inspired TDT to take his first real job!

Apparently one doesn't go very far or very long on your inspiration. :)

My "inspiration" as you apparently call it in California is a long as anyone else's on this board or any other... except for "Gro. Just ask TDT, I caught him peeking every now and again when I'd come back from the shower while he pretended to be still sleeping since it was 7:30AM and he didn't have class until 2:40.

It will be interesting to see if Gags pulls a Brewster or let's Luberts bring his cloud back to the team for a season with high expectations. The common media perception (Vick, Pacman, U of M players) seems to say the "right" step is to distance the team/program from the player and cut ties completely.

Perhaps more importantly, why is a 14-year-old being invited to a college party, which I've got to imagine provided alcohol? 14 is just out of MIDDLE school...

Wow, let me just say this is seriously disturbing. Speaking strictly from a medical stand point, there is a HUGE difference between a 14 year old and an 18 year old mentally, physically and emotionally. To err by a year or two is possible, but not 4.

Gags needs to cut ties immediately if he hasn't already done so. The kid admitted to sex with a 14 year old, he's a senior so probably 21-22. That's both wrong and illegal.

This is a sad, sad day for the SJU football program to have the entire team of 180+ men associated with the acts of one. :'(

As a future father who may have daughters and may live around a college in rural minnesota some day, it scares the sh*t out of me that there are guys like this out there going after 14 year old girls.

TDT,
Oogling high school girls is a long step from having sex on a middle school girl.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

So true KR.

However, if this had happened at Stout the Chancellor would fire the Head Coach and the AD because he (the Chancellor) felt personally embarrassed.  :P

OH THAT'S RIGHT. HE ALREADY DID.   >:(

FB413, I still don't believe the rumor. It would require too much effort by our already embarrassed Head of Household.

Terrible news about Craig, he is a good friend of my brother's (a sr. at sju this year) and from all i've been able to discern over the years a really good kid.  I'm shocked to learn this and really really hope (but cant even begin to convince myself) that he's got a shred of innocence in all of this.  I'll have to give my brother a call and find out what he knows.

In other news...I've been sharing my intern cubicle with a guy from UST for the past 2 months, everything seems to being going well, I dont have weird rashes or anything yet.  Any suggestions to dealing with a UST student (and former football player)?  I know many people dont have the opportunity to actually meet someone who is willing to admit to being a tommy, so i can act as an ambassadoor to this alien if anyone has any pressing questions for this unknown and un-studied species of the MIAC.

KR, As a father of a 16 yr old daughter I echo your sentiments! Kids that age are prone to questionable decisions to begin with. Throw alcohol in the mix and any chance of a rational choice being made is out the window. I don't know Mr. Lubert's but one has to seriously question his moral fiber as well.

OZ93, Couldn't agree with you more on this statement.

Shocking but not completely surprising.  We all know this happens.  Just not to people we "know."

I talked to Luberts last fall on the sideline when he was injured and out for a few games.  Seemed like a very nice, humble kid.  Made a huge mistake.

As the father of 3 young girls this horrifies me.  I try to explain to my girls (and my wife) that males are pigs.  Unfortunately we provide proof of that all too often.

Does this reflect negatively on SJU and the football "program" at SJU?  Certainly, can't not.  Should it have an impact on the way the other 200 members of that program are viewed?  No.  One individual responsible for a major lapse in judgement.

Prayers go to the 14 year old girl and to Craig Luberts.

ROR,

Perfectly measured response as usual ... wraps up the issue precisely.

Can't pretend to know how "good" kids end up doing terrible things but we all see it happen too many times.

There's certainly a lesson here for parents of boys as well, including mine who turned 15 the other day. It is another example for "the talk," which is actually "the talks."

And a sad, horrible day on too many levels.

Interesting that the article said nothing about any alcohol related issues.  That's the natural suspicion of course, at least for Luberts, but thankfully there's not a suggestion that the girl was plied, as in the UMinn case.

Looks like KR just made up a new euphamism.  LMAO :D

Doesn't sound like Luberts is a bad kid.  Indeed, the scariest thing about this, especially from a parent's point of view, is the realization that good kids can make really really bad mistakes.  We know men go through a period when they seem to do their thinking with their, ah, 'inspirations' - but where's that little voice that says "No, man, you can't don that"?
