Sounds like the St Olaf team is a lot like Dubuque for the IIAC.  Dubuque had a good year for them last year at 6-4.  This IMHO is a make or break year for them.

Frank,

Great pictures.  Looks like it's going to be a nice place to enjoy a football game.

Just one question.  Where will the Orville Redenbacher sign go?  8)

I heard it was between the Gusties logo and the Coborn's logo in the endzone

i'm not sure if this is old news or not.  Anybody aware that Jack Osberg is returning to coach at Auggie?  Could add some much needed leadership on a young team this year.  Looked at those Gustie photo shots, it's gonna be pretty sweet to play in that new stadium, looks great . . .

That stadium looks really cool.  What are your predictions for the team this year?

frankrickard

I think everything hinges on how Stolp plays.  I don't think he's taken big enough steps since he started as a freshman.  If he can step up his game as a senior it will really help the cause.  The team really found something at the end of last year winning their last four and had an impressive win at Willamette to begin the year.  A lot of young guys played last year and if those guys continue to improve they should be much better this year.  In order to be in the St. Johns level, they really need a Joe Thorvig type year from Stolp.  It should be interesting to see how the team is different with Brownie at offensive coordinator now.  They have some holes on the Defense to replace with both corners, Nick David, Adam Miron and others leaving, but Jared Sieling, Chad Arlt among other returning award winners.  The record of last year 6-4(4-4) would probably be disappointing, but in order to improve on that, they need to make plays against the johnnies, oles, royals and tommies.  Should be a good season and fun in the new stadium.  Can't wait for Sept. 8.

OAS Sighting....
I saw OAS selling parking spots at the Irish Fair in St. Paul last night.
What's he up to these days?

Gustie Stadium looks good...what's the name going to be?

Is the end zone turf really two colors of green?

Now all they need is some huge pine trees behind the home seats!

Frank - nice pics of the new Gustie stadium.  I'm sure it will be a fun time breaking it in for their season opener.
Go Johnnies!!!

57jonnie, thanks for the update on the auggies this fall.  Wahoo, you have made some good points.  Throughout the good part of the last 3 years, I have come to this site to catch up on some MIAC football.  Everytime the auggies come up it  isn't really constructive.  But, of course, I understand smack talk is just part of the game.  Beating up on your little brother is kinda easy, isn't it?  57-I highly doubt the Auggies will go winless this year.  Thanks :).  (I'm gonna get slammed for this . . . )
I don't think they will go winless either - but you hung a curve +k  :D

Who is Augsburg going to beat?  They won't be favored in either non-conference game.  Perhaps Hamline?  Don't forget Carleton's 30 point victory in the cage last fall.  But since I am not a johnnie backer, I feel it necessary to point out that as practice starts in a few hours, every team is unbeaten and is free to consider the possibility of beating any team on their schedule.

How many stadiums holding less than 5,000 can claim to have 2 entrance tunnels for the players?

Oh, Lord...Thorvig???  ::)

:D :D :D

Gustie Stadium is looking nice!  I've always thought they had one of the nicer stadiums in the conference.  This brings it up a level.

What does the MIAC have left for natural grass now???  Concordia, Carleton, Olaf, Hamline, and Bethel, correct?  SJU, UST, Auggie, and GAC now have the good stuff!

St. Olaf has no defense.

Bethel sucks.

Blake Elliot was awesome.

Gagliardi would be sweet to have in class.

Hamms.

Koefed needs to man up.

Go SJU.

Huh.  I kinda thought we all assumed they would beat Northwestern.  And they've beat Hamline the last 4 years.  I guess I'd put them on 2 wins this year.  Things are really lookin' up in the 'hood.
