I have been waiting patiently but the time is finally here to make plans. The Pioneers are Westbound headed toward Johnnie's country. Some of the wagons are new and not broke in but there are some rugged ones too. I have a feeling we are headed to an ambush but we are prepared to circle the wagons. My hope is that the Pios have enough fight in them until the end. Underdog the movie is coming out, that may be a sign, more likely it will be like the movie 300, Johnnies 30-0. I however believe the players have a Braveheart in them.

I need trip info. I would like to know where to stay and what to see. I'm pretty sure Mall of America is on the agenda. More importantly what time does the tailgating start and where do I need to park. This will be my first time in Minnesota so be gentle. Lets Goooooooooooo Pioneers!

kcreds-
Let us know how long you'll be here. Are you flying or driving? Solo, wife/GF, or rowdy pack o' pioneers?
Skip the Mall of the Universe-go to the State Fair, instead.
Don't worry PC, when he gets to Collegeville, he'll be taken care of.

I wonder if anyone else on this boards has the pull to get our pioneer friend a bed in the new guest house over looking the lake?  I certainly dont.

If you come up with some rowdy pioneer buddies then the night life in St. Joe is, well, memorable.  You won't find martinis, guys in pink buttoned down shirts, or girls with way too much make up (UST???) but you'll find plenty of cheap beer, great pizza to be eaten on the sidewalk at 2 am amidt chaos and drunken craziness, and a general raucous good time.

Good point, the fair will be going on, a cant miss!  I'll unfortunately miss the game that weekend due to volunteering at the fair, I'll be helping people compost/recycle corn cobs next to the corn food stand and handing out brochures with lots of info about composting and recycling.  Should be a good time (free fair admission, t-shirt, and food).

Any of you guys want to help kcreds out? He's a pretty good guy, out of Ohio, looking for some advice. Pull out the Minnesota Nice, will ya? :)

Come on, Pat - notwithstanding the screed posted by an Ole a few days ago the Johnnies on this board are very welcoming to newcomers and visitors.

I'd echo dbhammel's recommendations.  We fly into Minneapolis and then drive up to SJU.  We typically stay in St. Cloud, which is an easy drive to Collegeville.  If you want to stay a bit closer you can try St. Joseph or, a little beyond Collegeville, Avon.  There is no town in Collegeville - the only thing there is SJU - so unless you can get the monks to invite you to stay in the new guest house you'll have to stay in one of the local towns.

Parking is indeed free.  If you want a good spot for tailgating, get there early - 9-ish - and park in the upper lot at the south end of the stadium.  One of the large groups of Johnnie fans there, most of whom are on this board, hosts the Stiftungfestivities and you'd be welcome to join in.  Alcohol isn't allowed but as long as you drink discreetly from a plastic cup the campus security won't hassle you.

I also agree with finsleft - skip the Mall.  If you simply have to go, walk straight in to the center where the amuse-ing park is, watch it for about 5 minutes, then turn around and walk straight out.  The rest of the place is simply a bunch of stores just like the ones you have in Ohio.

That's not true.  There are a handful of houses behind Flynntown and on the other side of I94 that are considered Collegeville, I believe.

That's cool and all but this is the second time he's posted looking for help, so I figured I should call some attention to it.

Techincally there is a town in Collegeville, but not one you are going to stay in.

However, if the Collegeville Orchard is open that weekend then that would be a wortwhile event.  Its owned by a real nice guy and his wife who I used to have a spot next to when I sold veggies at the farmer's market a few years ago.  I suspect he wont be open yet, but if he is thatd be a fun thing to do after the game saturday afternoon.

Although I've been reading these posts for a few years now I just read that you are from Slayton Bennie! If so you had my father for a teacher and we saw you back in 2002 when the Johnnies played Linfield.

On another note 192 players were expected to report for practice on Sunday but only 180 showed up. What happened to the others, although they probably aren't needed?
You will have to say hi to your parents and your sisters for me! ;D

Well, if you consider a few houses a "town" then I guess you're right.  There's also a credit union on the west side of campus.  But there's no place to eat, no place to stay, no place to buy gas or food or anything - nothing that looks like a town to anyone who would be looking for it.

I sure don't remember him asking for help on this thread before. Of course, I only have an attention span of 10 minutes max. As far as I can remember, the Johnnies have always been helpful when asked - uh well a Tommie Might be an exception.

Hey Pat- Lighten up, will ya? Kcred's first post on this board was just over an hour ago. All his other posts going to last April were on the Ohio board. Sorry, I don't read that one. Give us a chance, we know how to treat our guests.

As  for the "town" of Collegeville, it was originally along the railroad tracks, but it was not much more than a little depot. Now it is more the name of the general area that includes SJU. Don't question me, I was there when the first train came through.

Try free beer and naked women.

Anyone have a chance to take in a Johnnie practice or have an inside scoop with the coaches?  Just wondering how the WR, QB and RB competitions are shacking out.

Speaking of pickem's and other contests.  Are we still doing the random pictures of athletes/people to guess what they are thinking or saying this season?  Also, when does Anna K Friday start?  I miss her!
