Another typical, poorly managed game by Coach J has left me considering writing a letter to Brushaber and Bjorklund calling for him to be replaced.  I won't actually do it nor would it make any difference but how many times does he need to lose a game by making dumb calls like going for in on 4th on our own 39 yard line?  He is a good coach but I doubt he will ever get the team past first round playoff loses and very poorly managed games.

It seems to me that the team survives off of talent alone and is helped very little by coaching.  Very very few players come to the team and become BETTER players.  Almost every talented player I can think of has come in as a starter or started in their freshman year.

A win against SJU every four years shouldn't be enough to keep him around but I guess it is for some people.  In order for BU to go to the next level they really need a new coach.

Am I being to hard on him? Thoughts?

C'mon Freedbird, you can't be serious?  Where was Bethel before SJ was hired?  They only won about 5 games in the decade before he arrived.  He's put Bethel on the map as far as being a MIAC contender basically every year since the mid 90's, and Bethel has been ranked nationally quite a bit over the last few years as well.  He does a great job of bringing in great talent as well.

I think your words were a bit harsh as far as him being fired.

Good Luck to everyone in the MIAC this week!!  The Royals will redeem themselves.

BUguy,

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders.  The losses you want are the first two weeks.  The Freebird sounds like the ones that want to throw Lloyd Carr under the bus.   ;D

bennie,

I don't know why you want to see all those games you are a naughty girl  ;D

I am assuming that the games you are refering to are the UO games, not Frank/ Pudding/Hamms and Willy's poor sisters! ;) While I may be naughty, it wouldn't be because of attending D1 games. 8) I prefer to spend my Saturday afternoons listening to the Johnnies. I have been to one Duck game, but someone else paid for the ticket/transportation. I did buy my own pretzel. ;D

Ditto to that. Johnson seemed to "manage" the game pretty well against SJU last year when he figured out a way to negate the Johnnie quickness advantage on D and control the game. Also, he almost pulled off a playoff win against LaCrosse without the services of Porta.
Sometimes the other team is just better than your team. Despite the polls, Bethel may struggle this year because of the athletes lost to graduation.

ROR - thanks for volunteering to bring a grill and brats.  Before you pack those things, however, please pack a few batteries in your car so that you will be able to take some great pictures this Saturday. :)

Veek,

You're welcome.  Spare batteries have been packed in the car since this past Saturday evening.

Thanks for reminding me.   :(

Bennie: I couldn't have said it better myself.  Just when I was about to compliment Freebird on a rational well thought out argument (See: Steve Johnson rant in his previous post) he goes and completely reminds me of his posting history.

Approaching 2000 pages on MIAC PP......

Does anyone need to be reminded of your posting history?   :)

Is it really that bad to respond to your post with one equally as kidding in nature?  :-\

BUguy,

I have a great amount of respect for Coach J and yes, he has done a great job with building the program over the years which is why he will never be fired.  However my contention is the program has gone as far as it can with him and is in need of a change to get to the next level.

I also agree that he brings in great talent but would argue that he doesn't coach that talent to its best potential or develop players very well.  I don't want to single out individual players but I'm worried about some of the fill in type guys we have playing this year.

I guess Porta and Kirchoff setting the MIAC records isn't getting the most out of talent.  I realize we haven't won an NCAA championship yet, but I feel the program is heading in the right direction.  One bump in the road (BV) is no reason to jump off the cliff or throw the leader off the cliff.

I don't want to give any of the Johnnie posters more pleasure with us bickering, so I have said my piece.  ;D

I have much respect for Coach J, and will always have his back.

BUguy Out!

I found this interesting.  I know they do this all the time at the the D-1 level, but I guess I've never heard of it before at D-III.  Although, if you can make an extra couple G's, why not.

Cost for an adult on a per game basis is $6 for volleyball and women's hockey and $7 for football (with the exception of the St. John's game on Sept. 8, when the charge will be $8),

I'd like to hear an explanation for that.

Cha Ching!

With River Falls ranked 170th in attendance with a total attendance last year of 4311 (1,077 per game), I am guessing they are wanting to make some money when the opportunity presents itself. Assuming that the Johnnie fans arrive in mass, they may have more people at that one game than they did all of last year... :o

Meanwhile, Stubhub has tix for the Vikings-Atlanta opener at $3 ....

johnnie_esq

I can see Freebird's perspective-- BU tends to play weak early on, peak near the SJU game, then fade miserably when it really counts most-- like NCAA playoffs.  No question, SJ has improved the Bethel program from a patsy to a contender in the MIAC; however, it's a little like Glen Mason-- you've had how many recognizable names, how many legitimate all-conference players, and you are 0 for what in the playoffs?

I'm not suggesting SJ be fired; but certainly, until he shows he can lead a team with success into the NCAA playoffs, he'll have that black cloud over his tenure.
