There was some speculation a few days back about Gliadon possibly getting enough FGs to hold the SJU record for a season. If the Johnnies keep having games like today, would it be wise of them to try a few, even if up by 21+, and risk being blasted for running up the score, to get him game tough? John normally goes for it on 4th inside the 20 - 25. Should he consider using Gliadon so that if he does need him in close games, he would have that experience? Any thoughts?

I'd say thats a great idea, if you are already blowing a team out of the water you may as well work on field goals if given the opportunity.  However you may still get accused of running up the score because you may turn it over on downs late in the game with the third and fourth stringers in there and not score at all.  That being said, in the interest of giving the kicker some in-game experience that may pay off in dividends such a clutch 3 points in a tight playoff game, I'm all for it.

I also just returned from the Stearns County doubleheader.  You know the flawless team the Johnnies saw end their season the last two years?  They were nowhere to be found tonight.  Still a tough team, though.  Full game recap tomorrow morning at www.johnniefootball.com.

Johnnies/Auggies was fun.  They scored a bunch of points.  There were nice plays to watch.  And, um.... yawn.  That's about it.

Any word on the severity of Blackmore's knee injury?

Does anyone know why the lame UST athletic department doesn't have any stats on their webpage?  Maybe it's because their stats suck!

Just a wild guess here but if you click on the word "stats" on the toolbar across the top of the page, it MIGHT bring up what you seek (as bad as the stats are, they are there)

Home from "the Jake"--- man what a game! both offenses looked impressive and for much of the 2nd half, so did the defenses.

Flannery is a sweet, sweet back--- nice moves, excellent speed & agility.  He will be a fun one to watch for 4 yrs, unless you're an opposing coach. Wetzell had not one but 2 Hail Mary-esque passes (assuming non-catholic schools can use the Hail Mary)-- his receivers, especially Bernstetter & Lee , are quick... ROR or MyYak-- is the TE Otto (from Hill Murray) a brother of the HM track/jumping sensation? I think so.

Nelson looked awfully good at qb for cord, just kind of odd to see cobbers throw the ball as much as they did....good receivers, though.

Easily the best MIAC game I've seen since the 409 "game-for-the-ages"...definitely worth the trip. Good to see you Cobbernation.

It will be interesting to see how Horan gets his team up for next week... also interesting to see how BU preps for Carleton.

Cord/Sju will be a wild fun game.

Sounds like someone is ornery for 1 of 2 reasons, the beatdown at the hands of the Gusties leading to an 0-3 start AND/OR that ridiculously long boring drive home from Cobberland...

TC: Who took pics at the Stiftungsfestivities today?

Rumor has it that Frank Rickard skipped the Gusties/Tommies game in lieu of the Auggie/Johnnies game.  Folks that is dedication to the Stiftungsfestivities.  A couple more appearances like this and we might have to consider him for Honorary Johnnie Status...

SJU played very well today.

It was nice to see Frank show up for the game to make up for his debacle that occurred two weeks ago.

It was also nice to meet and talk with LAB.

I couldn't believe it when I arrived today only to find a pink porta-pottie right next to JR's grill!!  It was the first time I had ever seen a one colored pink.  I would have put money down that TDT was going to step out of it but I would have lost.  A number of posters took pictures of it so it shouldn't be too long before it makes its way onto our pages.

I can't wait for next week's game against the Cobbs.  It should be a good one.
Go Johnnies!!!

I'm not certain, but I saw fins, Duff, and Shoes with cameras at various parts of the morning.  If we could ever get ROR and his camera batteries in Collegeville at the same time.... uggh.  It could be disgusting.

FR was there, as was LAB.  They seemed to be enjoying themselves.  As more and more non-Johnnies embrace the 'festivities it can't be long before we have a real live Bethel or Tommie to torment before a game...

Sorry, the long drive got to me....wasnt intending to sound ornery, sarcasm didnt come thru, I guess.  Apologies, Faunch

(and no, the GAC/UST game had no influence on me...you know where I stand on that topic, TDT)

I took in the GAC game at UST today, joining forces with Wonka.  It was a good win for the Gusties.

UST had some trouble on special teams--GAC recovered a short kickoff on the Tommies 30 yard line when the Tommie return team looked dumbfounded on what to do with a short kick.  Later, the UST punt return team let the ball touch one of their players, leading to a GAC recovery.
To UST's credit, they didn't give up--they put in their backup QB in the 4th, who led them to a quick TD, and another impressive drive, but that ended with a GAC interception in the endzone.  He had a good arm though.

GAC's new offense seemed to be in better form than in their first game.  Stolp still missed a few targets, but was right on with others.  He missed two field goals and an extra point (may have been blocked, not sure), and a new kicker came in the 4th to make a field goal.  GAC Defense looked pretty solid until the beginning of the 4th.

Overall, it was a beautiful day for football and I was glad to see so many Gustie and Tommie fans out.  Though it would have been nice to see Frank there.  I think his loyalty is more towards beer than anything else.  Kinda have to respect that.
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

sorry to ramble, but this QB for Carleton is something! 5 TD passes in 1/2 tonight vs Mac and 4 last week in 1/2 of game +2 plays...thats 9 TD passes in a game....wow!

he must come from one hell of a sports-crazed town!! (20 miles from a football crazed college?)  :D

I hope to hide his face after this start! I think SJU could give them a pretty good game. ;D Just plain bad.
BTW-TDT Cubs win on Soriano's home run-will you be coming to Chicago in October-so I can prepare the city?

Mrs. Ritz and I will be there from Friday to Sunday....staying at the Hyatt...any suggestions?  We are thinking about taking in a night at the House of Blues. . . anything else??

this is a beer spitter at this time of the night....made #5 on TDT's list.  amazing..

what about 'A scenic paddle boat ride on either of the Gemini Lakes as you enter campus", or "A quiet moment on the shores of Lake Sag, near the Monastic Gardens. . .

Ritzy,

You are quickly earning a spot on my sh!t list.  I missed this post last night.  Hope the TDT Weekly Top Ten List is at least worth a laugh or two.

BTW: Chicago is great.  Business or Pleasure??  I'd suggest going over to Rush Street for a little debauchery with Mrs. Ritz.  Maybe eat at Giordano's for the All-world Deep Dish Pie.  Are the Cubbies in town next weekend?  If you haven't been to a game this is a must.  Give the Mrs. the plastic for Michigan Ave and head uptown to Wrigleyville.  TDT's favorite establishments are the Goose Island Brewery and Murphys behind CF.  Any questions?  I'll be thinking better in the a.m.

EDIT: Almost forgot, DustySJU texted me a pic of the now infamous Porta-Potty.  Hope everyone got a kick outta this at TDT's expense.  Rumor has it that DustySJU will be sporting his UnderArmour for the remaining games of the season.  Stay Tuned...

St. Olaf looked good today.  They hung 40+ in the first half, and played a lot of reserves in the second half.  Haberman shows a lot of speed, and presents some challenges coming out of the backfield.  Penz had time, and the receivers looked to be a lot sharper on their routes.  The offense looked great, but the real sign of success was the defense.  The first string was strong, and played well as a unit.  The lone Hamline score came late in the game on a pass interference.  The ball might not have been catchable, but when you tackle the receiver on 4th down and 10 it is hard to make that argument.

I also saw the Carleton game.  Both teams had huge kickers.  Carleton's is 6-4; 260.  Gardner is the real deal.  You have to keep him in front of you.  I think his greatest quality is his focus on the field.  He caught a ball that was knocked away from him cleanly and ran it in for the TD.  A soft Cover 2 with one of the safeties leaning to his side is not a bad idea.  He looked to be the only true deep threat.

Hyatt on Michigan or at O'Hare?

Have a drink at the top of the John Hancock after sunset.  Unbelievable view.

It's also worth it to pay whatever it is to go to the Hancock observation floor.
(Trivia:  this is the building Chris Farley lived, and died, in.)

Hubbard Street Cigar Shop is a classic.  You never know who
you might run into.  (If my kid is there, buy him a decent cigar)

Chicago architecture tour.  There are a bunch of them.  I think my favorite
is the Chicago River boat tour.  There's also a South Loop waking tour or the Frank
Lloyd Wright tour in Oak Park.  Take the Green Line to Oak Park Avenue.

Skip Navy Pier.  Doesn't do much for me.

Shedd Aquarium, Natural Science Museum and Museum of Science and Industry are all good.

Giardano's at Rush and Superior is the best.  Expect a long wait.  You can kill the wait at the American Girl store across Rush.   ;)

I'm not in to art, but there's a good art museum on Michigan if that's your deal.

Mr. TC:

1.  I have a photo of you.
2.  I own Photoshop.
3.  Someday I will learn how to use Photoshop.

Oh, and I now have 2 spare batteries for my camera.

I'm going to have to try really hard to screw up now.  My next act will likely be
to show up with batteries and no camera.
