your right cheese, the game was not close, ever. Bethel was not playing to make up for last year, their game plan was to win period. Like any other game.  and CC, last year during the Royal/Knight game, I hear everytime RJ Jackson got up from the field he said and I quote" Thats the way RJ Jackson does it..    This year every time he got up he had snot bubbles coming out of his nose.........  One word for him,  Clariton.  Dries tht right up..

That was a terrible comment.  It's tough to even respond to.

The stat that no one else saw from this game.  Bethel  0 for the century on field goals and extra points.  Good luck the rest of the way with that.

The only reason I brought up the topic of "running up the score" was because we were beating dead horses (Keating, red shirts) and I was suprised to see so many high scoring, somewhat one sided games there were in the MIAC this week.

For some of you guys that are former players, which would you rather endure, having the other team score at will against you with their 2nd, 3rd and 4th string or having the other team take a knee so that they don't score?

Personally, as a former player, I would rather see the 2's 3's and 4's play. They don't get as much of a chance so let them do what they can. What I hate is when a team marches down the field and then kneels in the red zone. That is more of a slap in the face (in my opinion) than actually scoring. Its as if the coach is saying to the other team, "We know we can score on you but we don't need to prove it." I have seen it happen, I think that may be the worst display of coaching sportsmanship.

Not to get off the subject of running up the score(as I was on the team when Coe came to collegeville in a playoff game and went home with a 72-3 loss, but their was really wasn't a 2nd or 3rd team). I'm sure everyone has noticed this, but it hasn't been brought up yet. WW has #6 Lacrosse this weekend and #2 Mary Hardin Balor in late October.. So, being the betting man that I am, I think the Johnnies have a better shot at comming into the playoffs as the top seed in the west. Yes, we still have some tough games left, but I would much rather play #23 St. Olaf at home than #6 on the road. I know I'm gonna take it in the shorts for this, but if the Johnnies can stay focused, I think WW will have a slip some where and we could possibly start the playoffs at #2. ;D

....so you're saying there's  a chance. ;)
45 minutes to Collegeville or 4 1/2 hrs. driving to Whitewater in Dusty's mini-van drinkin' red cup beverages.....  ???

Drinking red cup beverages at the home field or drinking red cup beverages in southeastern Wisconsin. Lots of things to think about ::)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Section...I think drinking red cup beverages in Collegeville would give us a better chance to drink red cup beverages in Salem ;D  If we can keep the home field........Just ask any team that has come into the natural dome in November for a playoff game. Usually doesn't turn out as expected for them. ::)

I don't have many problems with a lopsided game unless you happen to be talking about Texas Tech.  Mike Leach (of the blood sucking variety) is known for leaving the starters in the whole game and continue to take deep shots when he is up by 50 in the 4th quarter.  When I was in high school we would have a coach in the press box go to the other team's box and discuss a plan to keep the game under control.  Usually we agreed to run our base offense with the reserves, and they agreed to keep the deep shots to a minimum.  The opposing team was also not supposed to get within a certain number of points.

I was at one game where a player from my school was injured severely.  Our opponent knew that we had won the game, and to prevent more injuries he conceded the final quarter of the game.  We were up 48-7.

some questions for johnnie fans from a first time football board poster:

what is the status of aaron blackmore and his injury?
why doesn't brian busack ever play or have any stats?
can bethel beat sju on the final day of the miac season?
can you even mention gac football in the same sentence as sju, bu, and sto?   (woops, i just did.)
i'll hang up and listen.

Miacsuperfan I assume that moniker just refers to recently, as a true "MIAC Superfan" you would understand that historically it is bethel and sto that don't belong in the same sentence as GAC and SJU.  I know I am going to get ripped for this in our what have you done for me lately society, but just wanted to let you know ;)
I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!

shake - I won't rip you, but GAC has been straight horrible in recent years. Decent in regards to the Hamlines and Tommies, but that's about as backhanded of a compliment as you can get. They didn't belong in the same sentence as the Johnnies, Royals, Oles or Cobbers of recent years. If you need proof of that, look at last year's 41-0 demolition show Bethel put on during GAC's homecoming aka the only Gustie game I've ever left early.

A dominating 3-0 start with a new offense and a veteran set of skill players has me feeling quick optimistic that will all change this year, hopefully for good...but the Gusties could still have a solid team and be 3-3 in three weeks. Hopefully the coaches are keeping their players' heads from getting too big and they prove their worth over this difficult stretch.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Blackmore has a sprained ACL and expects to be back for the Carleton game.

Busack was expected to compete for the #2 receiver position coming into the year but Ben Vanderheyden and Chace Pollock have started to seperate themselves there.  Combine a bunch of passes going to TE Brett Saladin and the Johnnies primarily running the ball when the backups come in the game and there isn't much left for Busack.

No.

SJU, no.  BU, I hope so.  STO, we'll find out this weekend.

Shake, I have to partially agree with you on that. Granted in the past decade, GAC hasn't lived up to it's heritage, but other than a few pipmples on the face of MIAC football. SJU has has 12 miac titles(either shared or outright) since 1991. GAC hasn't had one sice '87, but still has 22 total and UST still only has 14 with the last one in '90. So the "what have you done for me lately" pretty much applies to most teams.

Wonka, yes GAC looks to be a much improved team this year and I wish them luck, but I will be in St. Peter for the homecoming monkeystomp that Kofed and Co. is going to give all the fans. ::) I live 45 miles from there and will be brining some HS buddies to their first Johnnie game and Stiffyfest. Hope to meet up with you for a red glass. ;D

Forgot to mention, St. Olaf hasn't won a tiltle since 1979. I don't even remember who was president then... ::)  Just had to throw that out to get the pot stirring started early. ;D

Haven't had much time to post lately, but I have been meaning to say hey to the Cobbers that joined us at the S...fest last Saturday, and thanks to CN for the corn. Good luck the rest of the way.
What a great day it was for football at St. John's.
Peace all.

thanks for answering my questions.   i will go out on a limb and pick the oles by 16 points this weekend.   and i hope sj doesn't risk injury to blackmore in a blowout win over carleton.  :o

Sec 105. I have just the opposite problem, but mine is stickier. 1/2 hour to Whitewater, or 6 hours to Collegeville. I still would rather they have that tilt in the Natural Bowl (Dome?)

SJU92#57

Superfan....I'm thinking Blackmore won't even play. ::) If he wasn't need against CC, save him for the Homecoming game against St. Olaf. Why risk it???? Cuz you know how Gag's is about injuries....
