I heard through the grapevine that Coe is a beatable team.  Their star running back is 6' tall and weighs 223 lbs.  I heard he isn't a punishing runner, but if he gets in the open just get reservations fro six.  Looks like they have quite the passing game 250 yds/game to go along with almost 200yds rushing/game.  But the game is at "The Jake".

cobbernation,

Coe is a well balanced team both offensively and defensively.  In recent weeks their offense has been putting points on the board (they have a young qb who has shown lots of progress from what i have heard).  They have solid recievers who are able to make some plays, there running back is a decent player who gives them positive yards not the type of slashing runner who can go the distance on any given play, but their best offensive threat is a combo wr/rb.  They put him in many different spots and formations.  He does have the ability to score from anywhere, on a handoff or a reception, smoothe runner who is hard to get a clean hit on (great body control).  On the defensive side of the ball they are very solid, make few mental mistakes and have the corners who can make plays.
hope that works for you

Charlie Kohawk

Having witnessed 9 of 10 Coe games this season, I offer this unbiased scouting report:

The Kohawks are small, slow and, while well-coached, are just happy to be in the playoffs. Don't let that 9-1 record fool you, they're only bringing spending money to Moorhead and don't want a west coast trip messing up their Thanksgiving plans. If I were the Cobbers coach, I'd cancel practice this week.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

From the St. Cloud Times today;

Here's a look at Saturday's quarterfinal matchups, with a bit of prognostication tossed in at no extra charge:

¦ Coe (9-1) at Concordia (9-1) — Concordia, the No. 5 seed, was just one Alex Kofoed-to-Kyle Gearman touchdown pass away from an unbeaten season. Stopping senior quarterback Brian Schumacher and the Cobbers' rushing game has been tough. Concordia (ranked No. 12) is averaging 305.6 rushing yards per game.

No. 6 seed Coe (ranked No. 24) is led by junior running back Ashton Northern, who has rushed for 919 yards. Prediction: The Cobbers wear the Kohawks down, 21-14.

¦ Central (9-1) at Wisconsin-Whitewater (10-0) — The second-seeded Warhawks (ranked No. 3) finished the regular season unbeaten. That made them the first WIAC team to accomplish that feat since Wisconsin-Stout in 2000. Sophomore running back Justin Beaver leads Division III in rushing with 173.7 yards per game.

Central junior running back Vance Schuring has rushed for 1,303 yards to lead his team, which is ranked No. 23. The Dutch are averaging 29 points per game. Wisconsin-Whitewater is averaging 41.9. Prediction: The Warhawks roll past an outmatched opponent 42-14.

¦ Occidental (9-0) at Linfield (8-0) — Perhaps the marquee matchup in the first round pits the fourth-seeded Tigers, ranked No. 5, against the top-seeded Wildcats. Linfield is the No. 1-ranked team in the country and the defending national champion.

Linfield beat Occidental 56-27 in the regional final last season. This first-round rematch is based on geographical considerations.

Expect a battle of prolific passers. Tigers junior Andy Collins has thrown for 2,628 yards and 30 touchdowns, while Wildcats senior Brett Elliott has thrown for 2,580 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Each team is averaging more than 40 points per game. Linfield, which is averaging 49.4, hasn't lost since falling to St. John's in the 2003 region final. Prediction: Linfield gets a scare, but pulls away for a 49-35 victory.

¦ Monmouth (10-0) at St. John's (10-0) — The seventh-seeded Fighting Scots, ranked No. 19, are led by senior quarterback Mitch Tanney, who has thrown for 2,469 yards and 33 touchdowns while being intercepted just three times.

Monmouth is averaging 44.4 points per game, but the team will be making its first postseason appearance and likely hasn't run into a defense like that of St. John's, which has given up only 14 touchdowns all season.

Meanwhile, the Johnnies' offense has been coming on strong in recent games. Prediction: St. John's wins going away, 35-14.

Finsleft, by all means, extend the invite to the Monmouth president to be our guest at the Stiftungsfestivities. The Scots should host their tailgate party next to us so we can make some new friends and promote everything that is great about Division III football.

We should also mention to all the Coe and Scots fans who are traveling to Minnesota that you might want to stop at the Minneapolis Convention Center prior to or after traveling to Moorhead or Collegeville to take in a very special convention this weekend. Evidently it is the first one of its kind in the United States. Rumor has it that Auggie Tech students will be working the convention since they are so well versed in the subject that is the focus of the convention and that Bethel students will be there to learn as much as possible since they know very little if anything about the subject. ;)

Just perusing the conference stats, one thing stuck out at me.  Hamline lead the conference by far in turnover margin (+20 compared to second place at +9) yet finished 8th in the conference.  That's a little weird.  I guess you have to be good at something.

From Reusse today:

Reasons to keep Roney

St. John's 48-14 victory Saturday put St. Thomas coach Don Roney at 0-8 against the archrivals. It concluded a flop of a 4-5 season and continued speculation among alumni about his future.

Roney's supporters point out these facts: A) Three losses came against Division III playoff teams Coe, Concordia and the Johnnies; B) Key injuries (including to quarterback Ryan Jansen) helped derail this year's team; and C) Throw out the Johnnies and he's 45-16 against the rest of the MIAC.

UST can keep Roney as long as they'd like. I have no qualms with never having to witness a Tommie victory over the red.
Nice day, huh?

I agree.  Throw out the Johnnies. ;)

Apparently, the Scots enjoy haikus, so I wrote a nice one for them:

You're having quite the fun over there in MWC land, aren't you Duffy? It looks like the Scots are all about the trash-talking. This is going to be FUN.

Yes, I am enjoying the "trash talking in verse" over on the MWC board.

Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
