But I'm kind of a big deal!  I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.  ???
I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!

Here's a serious question. Is it "shovel pass" or "shuffle pass"? I always thought that it was shovel, but I recently heard someone correct another and say it was shuffle.

SInce it's Ole week, I thought I should share this true* story:

IRISH AND NORWEGIANS

We celebrate March 17th in commemoration of St. Patrick's great and noble deed in driving the Norwegians out of Ireland.

It seems that centuries ago many Norwegians came to Ireland to escape the bitterness of the Norwegian winter. Ireland was having a famine at the time and food was scarce.

The Norwegians were eating almost all of the fish caught in the ocean, leaving the Irish with nothing but potatoes.

St. Patrick, taking matters into onto his own hands, like most Irishman, decided all the Norwegians had to go. Secretly he organized the IRATION (Irish Republican Army to Rid Ireland of Norwegians). Irish members of the IRATION sabotaged all the power plants in hopes the fish in Norwegian refrigerators would spoil, forcing the Norwegians to a cooler climate where their fish would keep. The fish spoiled all right, but the Norwegians, as everyone knows to this day, thrive on spoiled fish. Faced with failure, the Irishmen sneaked into the Norwegian fish storage caves in the dead of the night and sprinkled the rotten fish with lye, hoping to poison the Norwegian intruders, but as everybody knows, this is how lutefisk was introduced to the Norwegians, and how they thrived on the lye soaked smelly fish.

Matters became even worse for the Irish when the Norwegians started taking over the Irish potato crop to make lefse. Poor St. Patrick was at his wits end. Finally, on March 17, he blew his top and told the Norwegians to "go to hell" -- and it worked, because all the Norwegians left Ireland and went to Minnesota.

*I know it to be true because I learned it in my history class at St. John's

Actually, it's a Utah pass... ;)

The shovel pass can be helpful.  It has to be done at the right time.  The play is often overused by coaches trying to pad stats.  If a team shows a willingness to use that play then you force a defense to practice against that play, and it has to be respected in the game.  I just think it gets overused at times.

Fins,

Thanks for clearing that up for me.  Now I know how my Norhooski relatives came to live in MN.  Now can you tell me how the other side (Irish) came to be in MN.  If you tell me then I don't have to do all the boring research.  If it comes from an SJU class it must be true.

If I recall correctly, SJU "shoveled" its way to a convincing with over Betherl a few years ago - like 7-8 times and it kept working.....

All the "Oles better than Johnnies" chatter was rather annoying.  As a Johnnie with a son at UST and a daughter at STO, my opinion is there are many high quality institutions of higher learning in our fair state and we are fortunate to have so many good choices.

I think Saturday's game could be a "game for the ages" not unlike the "409 game" vs. Bethel in 2003.  Not the same magnitude of that game (MIAC title, 409, final game of the regular season), but this game has the feel of an epic.  (Actually, I hope I am wrong and the Johnnies stand and deliver a message!)  Here's hoping Alex & Co. are hitting on all cylinders and the defense may have to bend, but not break.

Go, Johnnies!!

Willy Wonka

#27224
Perhaps more importantly, Wonka wants to know if #13 will be on the Ole sideline this week. He's got a pretty sweet job as Gant and Deontae's hype man, with the ear bling that sparkles. I wonder if he's got diamonds on his **** chain, too?
