I wasn't always able to call the shots so I can sympathize with those whose nads are in a jar on their wife's vanity. Although I'm sure from the Petitioner's perspective, I did entirely too much calling of said shots. But now that I am happily unmarried, the shot calling is much easier and more enjoyable.  8)

Now that I again wear the pants in my family, I'll take a pair. 1 down, 49 to go.

Brice and I usually get to the game about 15 minutes before time so we've not been able to go the the festivities much.  Brice has been there once or twice a few years ago and I've never been to it as far as I can remember.  I'll have to do so at GAC next weekend.

Looking at the stats from the SJU/STO game.  Did meidt go for 2 in the first quarter or was it a botched snap?  Only asking because isn't STO's kicker all world?

Also, looks like the J's had trouble running the ball but ease passing it.  Is STO's front 4 and middle 3 pretty good at stopping the run?

Botched snap on the PAT.  I remember looking at the scoreboard at the half (or maybe right before the half), and seeing that the J's had 14 rushing yards on 15 attempts, and I am pretty sure that the majority of their rushing yards came in the fourth.  The front 7  for Olaf is very, very good, and i think that it is going to be interesting to see how the cobber O-line fairs on saturday.

5 Best memories of GAC games:

*In 1999 in the Dome we put together a great drive at the end of the first half with Stanger hitting Seiben for a huge gain down inside the 10.  Seiben gets out of bounds with over 5 seconds left....the ref on the sideline winds the clock end of the half.  John was pi**ed and chases the refs to the exit, I provided the security escort for John (documented fact in the Sweet Season).

Was that in chapter before or after Tommy L firing his "missles" while recovering from his surgery??

Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

To show that I'm not trying to single out the hated Oles, I'll offer up a different sort of direction for this board to take.

Bethel posters: It's been brought to my attention that you've received VERY fortunate calls each of the last two weeks. It could easily be argued that each directly affected the outcome of your games, turning losses into wins. I'd like to hear your take on the following situations, since they've ressurrected your once-dreadful season.

BU vs. UST: Facing a third-and-15ish (maybe fourth down, I forget now) late in the fourth quarter while trailing, B-Weezy lobbed up a deep pass that fell incomplete. However, a ref threw a flag for pass interference on a play I've heard described as a "phantom call."

The Royals scored the go-ahead touchdown a few plays later and recovered a UST fumble deep in their own territory with less than a minute to play to lock up the win. Without the highly questionable flag, a loss seems nearly inevitable.

GAC vs. BU: Facing a third-and-long (again, I think, as I wasn't there) the Royals fumbled near the sidelines sometime in the first half. A Gustie player dove to save the ball from rolling out of bounds and slapped it backwards. A teammate scooped it up and scampered in for an apparent defensive touchdown.

The play was called back on a flag for batting the ball backwards, apparently. Maybe Mongo can elaborate on the situation and play, but this seems highly questionable.

My question is then this: Have the Royals benefitted from obvious reffing meltdowns, or is that just their Hail Mary's finally paying off?

Being at the GAC/Bethel game, when I saw the play in question, I thought it should have been a GAC TD.  But when I called Frank during the game and he explained the rule to me, it made sense from what I saw and I believe the refs made the right call on that one.  However, the refs at this game were not that great overall.  I recognized a couple of them from when I played and they weren't that great then either.  Especially the line ref who is quite large.  There was an obvious personal foul facemask right in front of him and there was no call. 

With the way GAC played, I think Bethel deserved to win and would have no matter who was officiating.
