Here are my thoughts coming out of the Johnnie game....the entire day is one I would like to forget...

There must be an hour or so you'd like to remember.   :'(

While the good was very good...Patrick's at 11am was a quality time...the bad went well into the bad...the game sucked and at one point in the evening I drank 2.5 40's of Miller Lite in an hour...

Uh, don't the Gusties watch film?

No, what's the point of that?

It's not still film is it, or is Gags that old school that he breaks out the Bell and Howell and has one of the freshmen thread up the projector?

bennie,
Did you survive the 13? ???
I shouldn't have said anything about Joe Sakic - a chapeau is a chapeau even vs columbus & one is a PP. :-\

I did survive and enjoyed every minute of it! I like Joe so I am glad he got the hat trick. I wonder if he has ever gotten a Gordie Howe hat trick. I doubt it! It doesn't really go with his Lady Byng image. ;)

After the Canuck/Oiler game I watched a highly entertaining interview with Willie Mitchell (former Wild player). I am not sure which was funnier, the picture of a scrawny young Willie (probably about 9 years old) in his wrestling togs or the phone call from his former figure skating coach! ;D Gotta love CBC's after the game interviews!
High sticking, tripping, slashing, spearing, charging, hooking, fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct, interference, roughing... everything else is just figure skating.  ~Author Unknown

I'm sure Joe never did - not sure Howe ever did :-\

Sfury-Prybil (sp?) I think was the kicker back then. One of the best games between CST and SJU was the year before the '86 game, the 1985 game was early in the year, but had title implications, as the two best teams were facing each other. CST had a lead into the fourth quarter and had the ball, up by two, with under two minutes remaining. SJU either had no timeouts or just one. CST then displayed their usual football savy by running out bounds twice to stop the clock. SJU gets the ball back and with a few seconds on the clock, kicks the game winner (from a decent distant, 30-35 yards?). SJU goes wild, wins the MIAC and advances to the playoffs, to be defeated by Occidential. So coming off that season, yea 1986 was a dissapointment.

I was at that game and it was my first SJU game.  I was a junior in high school.  I recall Danny Grant making a big catch on that last SJU drive.  Don Prybil (from Le Sueur) was the kicker on that team and nailed that kick!  He passed away about 2 years or so ago from cancer (42 years old I think).  I actually partied with Don at "The Bar" in Le Sueur about 15 years ago (I grew up in Henderson and my wife is from Le Sueur)...what a great guy!  By chance my wife and I just moved in June onto the same street that Don's family lives on.  When I met his wife this summer the first thing I told her was that I was there for the kick!

As disappointing as the 86 season was, the 87 season was even weirder with  St. John's sort of backing/surprising its way  into the  playoffs with two losses (only 4 teams per region back then)  as a number of teams unexpectedly lost on the last day of the year.  I remember being shocked we made it. We went on to get revenge against Gustavus in the first round on their home field before losing to Central

Thank you. "Film" bothers me. It's not even tape anymore in most places. It's video.

Sorry, but I've always called it "film".  I guess it's like calling a tissue a Kleenex.
