Fins...even though I thought we could have played better today, I have to also give Hamline some credit.  They looked a lot better than I expected, based on their record.  Other than one horrible snap and the QB flubbing a couple others, they seemed to execute pretty well and had some decent players.  Never bought a program but I think they have mostly Freshmen and Sophomores?  They impressed me.
Agreed. 1st year D coach Todd Strop had his crew fired up and ready. They did execute pretty well. But SJU was just a bit too much for them to handle. Hats off to them. I hope they continue to improve. I'm all for MIAC parity. It makes for good football watching. Look out for Augsburg. :o

And the snap wasn't bad. But the ex-Johnnie punter was. It went right through his hands.  (I heard he transfered because SJU wasn't a friendly place.)  ::)

Another barnburner in the SEC tonight.  Is there a better conference in D1?

The bad snap was the one that went about three feet over the QB's head.

Nice afternoon at Hambone today. Was wondering about the facilities there myself when I saw SJU at halftime gathered in a corner of the field. You just spent millions on your facilities and this is the best you could do? WTF?

Maybe the facilities are not big enough for all teams, but I thought for the St. Olaf game they were more than adequate.  It is an issue once every 2 years, and that does not justify a major expansion.  I was talking with a group from all MIAC schools at Klas, and the building was designed for a new snack area and ballroom for students.  It was going to be used for football, but that was never a focal point.  It was the only place that the school had for the building.  I know the SJU coaches in the past have complained that the facilities at St. Olaf were not large enough for them, but I cannot justify the added tuition for better athletic facilities that might only be used a few times a year for a group that does not benefit me.  I think most of the Johnnies here would agree that it would not be fruitful to build a large state of the art lockerroom for the visiting teams to use.

Olefan-
What other school doesn't have a visitor's locker room? I sure didn't suggest anything "large" or "state of the art". But geez, who doesn't think of that when you do a major remodel of your facilities. If it was 25 degrees out there, it seems to be a bit unfair to go in to warm up while the vistors are put on ice.
I'm thrilled about the new snack area and ballroom, however.

They have an area in the gym/fieldhouse visitors can use.  It is the big building next to the football stadium off Snelling.  I agree that you have to provide something to protect teams from the weather.  I was at a national lacrosse tourney where the lockerrooms were an issue.  No team had them, but tents were offered.  The team from San Diego used their bus.  It was really strange.

(CC to Pat: Don't bother joining the Stiftungsfestivities you aren't welcome)

I appreciate the hospitality.

Keith and I are making the trip because Keith has never been there and I don't think he has the proper understanding of what football is like in Collegeville. I'm not sure the game itself will be that great, obviously, but the experience is what we're looking for.

Pat,

Regardless of TDT's lack of hospitality, I am surprised you and Keith are not going to UWW vs MHB.  That game should be awesome.  Wish I could go but I have a commitment later that night.

I think SJU UST is the second best game in the region.  I'll be there.

Hey KR, I found an improved version of the St. Thomas logo in your sig. Dunno where it came from, but I'm busting it out every year for Tommie week henceforth :D

Nice day, huh?

We made these plans long in advance ... plus, we went to UMHB/UWW last year, we've been to UWW a lot in the last few years and don't want to get stuck on the roof. :)

Every johnnie poster was predicting a monkey stomp last year, when the only thing that got stopmed on was the SJU logo. Maybe some respect this year?

Speaking of respect....  I'm not sure what your definition of respect is, but I'm pretty sure that the Johnnies will not be showing the same respect the Royals demonstrated last year.  Stomping on logos, indeed.

We attended the St. Olaf/Bethel game today and scouted Bethel.  It was a much more competitive game than SJU/Hamline.  STO did not play very well and looked like a totally different team from the one that played SJU.  Bethel looked good and SJU had better get its game on when it goes to Bethel.  They must stop the run.  Bethel's passing game is good but they clearly rely more on the run.  That #5 is a good replacement for Porta.
