This little piece just came in over the transom - unfortunately it's pretty much true.

Back in 1850, 157 years ago, California became a state.  At that time:

The State had no electricity.

The State had no money.

Almost everyone spoke Spanish.

There were gunfights in the streets.

So basically, it was just like California is today, except the women had real breasts and the men didn't hold hands.

They forgot to mention whether there were fires everywhere.

My wife met a priest from India who was visiting her school; he's apparently in this country for a year or so to do some research and teaching -- at, of all places, UST!  So she told him she had a son at SJU and asked him if he knew that Tommies suck!  (I frankly thought it was pretty cheeky of her.)  Anyway, he seemed unfamiliar with the term but I'm sure he took it back to his colleagues on Summit Ave.

AP (ST. PAUL)- Alata Dictsenhur, a sophomore at the University of St. Thomas, was found dead this morning in the 1200 block of Grand Avenue.  She was found in a bathtub filled with milk and Cheerios.

Police have no leads at this time, but Sgt. Specter believes it is the work of a serial killer..

I hope this joke is the low point for the week.

just got this joke in an email.  You hockey fans may like. 

Two gentleman were watching a hockey game behind a group of nuns.  The Nuns were cheering wildy for their team.  The nuns habits were blocking their view of the game.  The one man leaned over to the other and said maybe were should go to Utah there are only 30 nuns in the whole state.  The other gentleman said maybe we should go to Montana they only have twenty.  Another man said he heard there were only 10 in Idaho.  All this was said loud enough for the nuns to hear.  Then after the last gentleman spoke a nun turned around and politely said you gentleman should go to He$$ there aren't any nuns there.

It's hard to get up for the rivalry game when you know the outcome is going to be as predictable as the "Tommies Suck/Johnnies Swallow" lines. Maybe there is some creativity out there this year? Or will it be the same tired retreads? (Sounds like one of the team's offenses this Sat)
