I wasn't basing my St. Olaf statement on today.
I just think olaf will give sju a serious run.  STO is a very fast team and playing on the fast track @SJU will help.  Also they seem to play sju pretty tough.
My prediction is
SJU 30
STO 22

I'd take that, But...
Oles just don't have the horses to put up 22 against the Johnnie D

And you can bet a Hamm's on that!

FPM

Come-on Auggie just scored 16 (jk i know that was on the 3rd, 4th & 5th teams)

I think you are underestimating the ole O.  Time will tell.

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention the defense that held Auggie Tech to 50 total yards in the first half, probably took another 10-15 away on the first series after half and then the backups came in. VERY impressive again, Dumo looked a like he wanted back in as Aug was marching down the field on the 2nd stringers.  Great day in Collegeville!

Just some defensive comparisons-avg yd basis (common opponents only)

SOC- 309 yd/gm
SJU - 182 yd/gm

How do you make the cliam "underestimate their D" when against teams with a combined 8-20 record they are giving up an average of 309 yds/game?

Some other interesting comparisons:

Games played against > .500 teams:

SOC -0
SJU - 3

Overall records of opponents:

SOC - 16-35
SJU 26-31

We all know the game still needs to be played, but I think at this point there is no dispute over who has played a tougher schedule and who has a superior defense at this point in time.

We shall see Saturday-

For those at the NAtural Bowl today-

Seemed like for the 1st time all year the offense actually clicked with minimal mistakes-comments from anyone who was there?

Also-I get a little irritated listeneing to SJU backs being dropped for -5 -3 and -6 yds-especially by Auggie-what's going on with the O-line?

Auggie1998-True to form, SJUGator did what he could to listen today and Auggie held to their true minimal standards of at least 2 personal fouls-

One more thing-I read the Kyle Gearman quote in the 3rd person-what is the big deal-he wasn't bragging like Ricky Henderson, he was syaing how he needs to do the best in his job---what's the big deal with that?  Anyone? Anyone? Bueller????

It's easy for an Offense to look good when they have't played a good defense yet!

Granted GAC has a pretty solid defense, but they have no Offense to keep them off the field and let them catch their breaths. Not to mention the fact that the ST.Olaf-GAC game was 20-17 after three quarters.

Olaf has played 5 of the bottom 6 teams in the MIAC this year plus Macalaster and Luther. Luther is a 2nd tier team in the IIAC, behind Central, Coe, and Wartburg.

To see if we're really underestimating St. olaf's offense, lets look at how the teams they've beaten have done defensively this season.

Luther- Olies score 37 on a team giving up 25.3ppg
Bethel- Olies score 37 on a team giving up 20 ppg
Macalaster- Olies score 71 on a team giving up 38.7
UST- score 53 on a team giving up 25.8
Carleton- score 44 on a team giving up 25.4
GAC- score 34 on a team giving up 24.6
Hamline- score 49 on a team giving up 20.8

Congrats to the Olies, they've had above average success against teams that are prone to giving up a lot of points.

Now they play the big dogs of the conference:

SJU giving up 11.6 ppg
Concordia giving up 15 ppg

Even if Olaf can score more than that on SJU and CC... which I doubt... they will have to compete with Offenses the likes of which they haven't seen this year either.

CC averaging 28.2 ppg
SJU averaging 38.3 ppg.

Phone it in, SJU 38 St. Olaf 10            Concordia 30 St. Olaf 14

Sorry I missed the festivities today.  Other duties called.

Sounds like the Johnnies put together a pretty good game today.  Glad to see the reserves have a chance to get some PT.

Was there a Bus sighting today?   :o

Next week should be fun.

I believe Olaf is in for an unpleasant suprise.  I think the Johnnies will come ready and looking for some payback.

What happened with the blocked FG attempt today?  Schmidt seems to have little problem with PAT, but the FG attempts keep getting blocked.

Blocking?  Low kicks?  Bad hold?

I see you guys ripping on the oles, telling everyone how bad they are and how they don't deserve any respect.  Granted, sju and cc are powerhouse teams in the MIAC; but can anyone tell me who won the game between SJU and St. Olaf last year? And let's be real here...you can't use weather as an excuse when both teams play in it.

St. Olaf won last year.  We remember.  Doesn't mean squat when the teams step on the field tomorrow.

The ROR never said they did not deserve respect.  ROR said your team will be in for an unexpected suprise.  I stand by that.  I might be wrong.

I suspect at 4pm next Sat. you will still want to talk about last years game.   :o

Everyone knows Olaf won last year.

SJU also lost to Concordia and UWEC last year, neither of which happened this year.

St. Olaf lost to Bethel (42-6), UST (24-21) and Concordia (50-7) last year.

Last year is last year for a reason, the truth is St. Olaf has performed well this year, however they are yet to play a top tier team.

Until they show they can hang with SJU and/or Concordia this year, they are still a 2nd tier team in the MIAC.

Putting up 70 on Macalaster or 44 on Carleton doesn't impress anyone, heck, Beloit (2-5) hung 35 on Carleton.

Look at Gator's data on common opponents. SJU has outperformed St. Olaf against common opponents and this doesn't even take into acocunt the fact that SJU's starters did not play in the 4th (and sometimes 3rd) quarter against Hamline, GAC, and Carleton. Teams that Meidt seemed set on "sending a message" against by leaving starters in ridiculously long.

As TDT was always fond of saying, you don't get respect as a birth right, you earn it.

St. Olaf will get respect if they earn it, until then, they are in the purgatory that exists between Bethel and SJU/Concordia.

A little boy on the bus was being annoying saying "if my mommy was a rhino and my daddy was a rhino, id be a little rhino" and so on...The Bus Driver got pissed and said "if ur mommy was a stripper and ur daddy was gay, what would you be then?" the kid said "a Bus Driver!"

That's for last night's "HATEABLE" comment.  And no update at half time. ;D
Like I was worried.   8)

Be cautious of comparing 'like' opponents.  It seldom is a good indication of future match-ups.  Keep in mind CORD had to keep Carleton out of the end zone to secure a win while SJU put up a MonkeyStomptm...

On the other hand that is the purpose of this board  ;)

Great job by Veek, Finsleft & Duffman filling in for Johnnie Red.
Nice to see Touchdown Tommy, Frank R. Wooderson, DustySJU & Bennies in training, Ritz72 et al...

Lone Auggie Backer, I wanted to go on the field after the game & say hi, but the better half said it was sleeting & time to go to the car...maybe some other time.

Some good plays by underclassmen, Jeff Shulte & Dusty Clintsman with ints...Craig Lubberts with some speed on the outside, a good sign for the future.

Good to see My Yak & family during the game.

Next week should be a good time in Collegeville
