Just one question for the Scots....Who is going to block Dumo, the NG from St. Johns?  That's all.

OzJohnnie

I find the "Johnnie's won't perform in the cold" line pretty weak.  If I'm not mistaken the Johnnies usually play at Clemens field, and (the rumor is) they have played there in the cold, and wind, and snow.

The line I find much stronger is that Monmouth has never played at Clemens, much less when it is cold, or windy, or snowy.  Seems like that is a far greater disadvantage than equaliser.

The question that is much more interesting for me is how does the Monmouth QB get such good stats?  Is his arm a cannon?  Is his presence in the pocket what gives him an edge?  33 TDs and only 3 INTs points to something special.  Even claiming the the MWC is full of powderpuff d-backs doesn't cut the mustard - were all the QB's in the division rated 170+?  Is the argument that he's an average guy in the world's worst conference?  Seems to simple to me.  I would love to have some Scots explain what his magic is.

What will be the Johnnie response?  Pressure up front and good coverage as usual?

Wait wait wait. Do I hear a Johnnie mocking a 7th year undergrad student? Seems like they won titles behind just such a player themselves in the recent past. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black calling the pot midnight blue?

These boards are so hard to keep up with during playoff time. In the case I don't post again, good luck Cobbers and Johnnies (yes, I said it :) )!
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

How much does that Johnnie D mix up thier plays and hide thier formations?  I didn't play so I really don't know the answer.  I know they have talented guys and that makes a big difference, but to be so consistently good at D it seems that you need more than good athletes.  You need sophisticated thinking.  So where does the Johnnies extra edge come from?  Do they have confusing movement that reduces the good QB's ability to adjust and forces the bad QB into trying to adjust?

How is it that the front four can be so good on the pass rush and stop the run so well at the same time?  Great talent or are the LB's filling gaps like Tommie freshman at the Chicken Ranch on dollar day?

Don't forget Dumo!  He's in his 5th year.  McCambridge was a 5th year.  As was Pantzke.

Oz, to answer your question, it really depends on the opponent.  With teams like Concordia who run an offense that isn't too ordinary, thins can change quite a bit, but normally, SJU doesn't change too much.  They have several base alignments that will get tweaked depending upon the opponent.  Some of the stuff is pretty unique.

The front 4 comes down to defensive philosophy.  Gary and Jerry start the guys that can do what they want to do on defense.  A lot of people notice the generally small size of SJU's d-line.  Basically, this is because they use their d-line basically as oversized linebackers.  They are taught well and utilize speed and quickness.

What it comes down to, like it was said before, is good coaching and talent.  Jerry and Gary know what they're doing.

D3 gets some press on ESPN.com

http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/listranker?id=386

ESPN offers Amherst and Williams as one of the options to vote for in ranking college Football's 25 best rivalries, giving it credit for being the oldest rivalry in College Football (1st matchup-1884)

Interestingly enough, if you scroll over USC-Notre Dame, someone from ESPN must like ND, since they have Notre Dame leading the all-time series as 42-0-5.

I am a fan of the Oregon/Oregon State.  But what about Montana/Montana State rivalry, this year will be meeting #105 with the Griz leading the series 68-32-5.
