As you will note, I had several question marks after my suggestion. After reading the posts that followed, I declare this blumpkin talk officially ended, as Oz has pointed out other reasons for said picture.

Red, the usual PA announcer for SJU was absent for part of the third and fourth quarters and I can only surmise that his vocal cords no longer functioned after the 50th  time he said,"a lucky winner will receive a pizza with the works, in just a few seconds..."

hey, so is kofoed going to (or has he already) set the miac passing record this season?

He got that in 3rd qtr vs Hamline and went over 10,000 yrds in his career vs UST (immediately before throwing an INT)

Kofoed's ultimate passing # is going to stand for a long time. Unless Mac rejoins the MIAC or we add a team somehow (St. Scholastica -- lets hope not), there are very limited possibilities of that being broken.  Congrats to him on that feat. Its worm week at Olaf. Hate the worms.

I noticed that. I wonder what happened. It was a shock to the system to hear an unfamiliar voice calling attention to "Go Johnnies" stamps on ads.
Nice day, huh?

2nd best team money can buy.

Are we supposed to act surprised when a team with a salary more than double that of the Twins and nearly triple that of their World series opponents wins it all?

In other surprising news, if you gave me $3000 to spend on a stereo system, and you got $1000 I bet mine is better.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

In regards to the free kick after the safety during the SJU/UST game.  Who actually knew prior to that that it was a live ball?  I have to admit, I was clueless.

Mike Carr did. Right away he said it was a live ball and then said it was going to be St. Thomas ball, even when there was confusion over what the right call should be. And then when they said John was apparently arguing that a fair catch had been signaled, Mike said it didn't matter, it's not like a punt.

I thought if you called a fair catch on even a kick-off, the defenders could not hit the receiver. For example, if an on-side attempt is a kick very short, but high in the air, the receiving team can all a fair catch. So, I thought John had a valid argument. But, I did not realize it was a live ball-never seen that before, a terrible punt after a saftey, and kick team recovering.

My immediate comment was that I was really surprised that punting instead of kicking off on your free kick eliminated the possibility of you recovering.  I said that was a lot to sacrifice to punt instead of kick off.  Then the Tommies went crazy and the official signaled Tommie ball.

This is one of those really rare things like the 1 point safety in '02 or so against St. Olaf (?) when there was a 2 point conversion attempt that was turned over, the guy tried to run it out of the end zone, reentered the endzone and was tackled there.

The receiving team can call for a fair catch but it is a live ball if he doesn't make the catch. As a matter of fact, if a receiver makes the fair catch, the receiving team can elect to try a field goal from a free kick position w/o allowing the opposing team trying to block the kick. It is very seldom used and almost always at the end of the half or game. The last time I know of it happening, Paul Hornung kicked a FG for the Packers so it was a long time ago. The call is usually made on a punt. I could be wrong but I think the rule applies to a free kick after a safety.

On second thought, maybe you can't make a fair catch on a free kick as it is a live ball.

So true KR. Makes baseball playoffs a lot less fun to watch.  Does anyone think MLB will ever wise up and get a salary cap?

I too was clueless.  As was everyone else around me.

The best part was watching John go wild.  He was waving his arms like it was 1974.  That made losing the ball worth it.

Off the topic of football, I discovered a disturbing problem this weekend.

Friday night, I was able to procure a few Fat Tires that actually came from Colorado.  Let me tell you, these were nothing like the Fat Tire they're selling to us in Minnesota.  It was way better.  It was not filtered, and much yeastier aroma and flavor.  That stuff was downright fantastic.  Now, I have to do some research to find out what is up with that.
