Fellow posters, please pardon my occasional strings of inane posts.  I'm trying to bump my number up so that I can start to give some karma. ;D

You don't kill your back up QB's confidence by playing him in a rivalry game late in a season.  If something bad happens he might never recover.  He has not ran the Varsity this year, and that is not fair to him.
Gosh, I wish the SJU profs had been as concerned for me my first semester as Coach Meidt apparantly is for his frosh QB.  Maybe then they wouldn't have all given me four C's and ruined my dream of being a 4.0.  Still have obviously not recovered from that tragedy. :'(

Right there with you on the math grades.  I definitely worked my butt off for a C in Calculus.  I was in help sessions every night.

I am a little more conservative than most coaches in terms of QBs.  I have just seen too many good QBs get ruined by playing too early in their careers.  That position requires great mental toughness.

That deserves karma, and I would give you some if I could for that admission.

Sorry Olefan, I did not realize you were a coach or I would have been more respectful in my responses in the past.

Up until Calculus I was pretty good in Math.  Boom, one play and BC back in it.

I do not coach, but I love to study the game.  I hope to do some JH coaching in the future where it is more fun that competitive.  I do teach right now while I work on my Masters in Education.

Also please note the BC/VT game where BC came back late.

On the other hand, the Oles were somehow held without a personal foul (the Meidt trademark) or 15-yard face mask.

Somehow I don't think their position as perennial MIAC power is in jeopardy ...

BTW, the Oles have racked them up at about 2 1/2 times the rate of SJU. Again.

Um Ya Ya!

85-28.  Wow.

In looking at the play list from the game, most plays looked like they may not have been too over the top - except for that 49 yard pass.

My only question would be - was it a 5 yard pass and a missed tackle, then a long run?  Or was it a deep rainbow?  That would make a big difference .....

Does it matter?  This was the first play of the drive.  Why are they throwing on first down?

I figured that there would be a long list of posts about the STO-CC game. I was there today and I will say that the superfan drama is a little more than just STO fans being jerks. First off, if you're going to talk about fans being jerks, then maybe you should also talk about how the CC superfans ran by in a group early in the game and a couple of them began to flick off our whole crowd. Then, you might also want to recall the CC fan that punched a friend of mine in the face as he was running a lap around the field with the STO superfans. The security response was to tell the STO superfans that the laps were now off limits despite the mark on my friends face from getting sucker punched. I will say that security made the right call, I just feel that they should have told the CC superfans that the track was off limits as well instead of replying "they can because they're the cheer boys".

In terms of running up the score, you can think what you want about it but know that the last few scores in the 4th came from backups. You can't blame them for taking it to the house if it's there. CC was airing it out still so they may have felt they were still in the game and they should have. They should give their best until the last whistle blows. The bottom line is that the it is the job of the defense to stop the opposing offense no matter what the score. I was on that Olaf team back in '05 that got absolutely blown out by SJU in Collegeville. It was our fault on defense for not stopping them, not the fault of their offense for continuing to play and score TDs. I never once thought less of SJU because of it.

In regard to the roster and lack of QBs, the second string QB is out due to his knee and this year the CC head coach only allowed STO the 55 player travel roster limit instead of the full team agreement that the schools have had in the past.  For the record, they brought 3 QBs...Olefan get your facts straight before you start posting.

Finally, in terms of the STO program being a bunch a classless players and coaches, I guess you're entitled to your own opinion. But lets be real for a second...do you really think that no other schools in the MIAC do any trash talking? Furthermore, do you honestly believe that Meidt encourages trashing talking? Do you think he tells his players that it's okay? Take it from me there are always consequences...ask any Ole player from back in '03 about the 30 sprints we ran one practice after the STO-CC game that year because of trash talking. My point is that it's football and anyone that has actually played knows that there are many things that get said on that field on BOTH sides in any given game. I'm not saying that makes it right but lets not act like STO invented trash talking because I can recall incidents from every single team I've played in the MIAC, ESPECIALLY in heated rivalry games like the one in Northfield today. Every team has its trash talkers, let's not judge a whole group because of it.

The fact that the trash talking happens year in and year out since Meidt took over suggests strongly that, though he may not encourage it, he has not made all that great of an effort of ending it.  Also, football does not need to be played with the mouth. The previous Olaf teams (under Hauck, Porter, Canfield, Grubb, and Miller) never were forced to play that way so I don't understand why they have to play that way now.  Even when Steve Ryan won the MIAC player of the year award, he did so without a bit of trash-talking.  That year's squad had some of the most talented athletes I've ever seen.  Brian Sprout has played baseball at the AA level, and was a great WR.  Manny Spriegel (sp?) was a great player, too.  They were a great team, upset the Johnnies at Clemens, and played very well all season, but did so with class.  So, I cannot accept that the reason for the trash talking is because it is the game of football.  Have respect for your opponent.
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

THE HAMMER

First, I never said it was right. In fact I said it isn't...look again at my post. I'm simply saying that I hate the fact that people act as if STO is the only team in the MIAC with trash talkers on it. I promise you Meidt does take action. I've personally been up at 5am to make sure that players run hills for their actions on a couple of occasions. I'd love talk about it tomorrow but for now I'm going to out because I'm feeling a little lame sitting in front of a computer while my friends are having a good time.

I sure hope Meidt stays at Olaf for a while...maybe he could go work for Belichick in New England?  Good thing he's devout so that he can be forgiven for being a total sphincter!  As long as he is at Olaf and there's a "Johnson" at Bethel, SJU can safely be the 3rd most despised program in the MIAC.

See you all on Saturday...I'll be buying my first tin of snuff in about 6 months sometime on Friday or Saturday in honor of the affair in Arden Hills.  Can't wait to take a dip and expell some juice on the BU turf!

Unless I am mistaken and the Division III suddenly creates an "NIT-like" tourney for those teams that don't make the playoffs......Mighty Meidt and his Pototo Oles will be turning in their equipment for the year in less than a week ;D ;D ;D after they put 200 points up on St. Thomas.

The fact that Meidt and his antics have become so expected has to be cause for concern in Northfield with the STO administration.  Back in the days of Caryle Carter (former MIAC dictator) Meidt's sh1t would have led to the call of "lack of institutional control". ;)

While watching SportsCenter tonight I have come up with my dream team of A$$hole Coaches........Meidt coaches the offense and Bill Callahan (soon to be former Nebraska HC) can coach the defense.

Being the family man that I am I told my wife today that I wasn't attending an SJU footgall game nor was I even going to listen to it on the radio.  She quickly replied, "Oh, they must be having a bye week."  My supposed "brownie points" quickly evaporated into thin air.

OzJohnnie - great article on johnniefootball.com.

+k Veek - I try that from time to time (not re SJU, though, as Mrs. tmerton is addicted, too).

Somehow I have the feeling that you either don't know what you are talking about or mighty meidt has a bunch of idiots playing for him, since they do not seem to learn why they are running hills.
