I think we could appoint Chris Meidt as Chairman if there is a consensus.

I would support that, but it's bad enough having him in the MIAC.  I would hate to have him in another organizations that Johnnies are involved in.  So I have to vote no.  He's in a club by himself.

Wow, 85 points against the Knights is really impressive ::).  Gotta pump those stats back up after scoring only 14 in the game 2 weeks ago that actually had something more than a rivalry riding on it.  The whole thing is equal parts tragic and laugh-out-loud funny because it was only a matter of time.

This has all happened before with beating up on inferior opponents and not taking the high road when given a chance.  I think the English call it "flattering to deceive." Case in point...

Bethel 76

Carleton 2

Arden Hills, MN - Number six Bethel had a 95-yard scoring drive in the last two minutes of the first-half to take a 27-2 lead into intermission and proceeded to score 49 unanswered points in the second half to beat Carleton 76-2. Bethel has yet to see defeat as they finish today with a 7-0 record.  Bethel's offense, third in the nation coming into the game, finished the game with a school-record 643 total yards.

I'll give you one guess who was calling the offensive shots in the Bethel booth that day.  Total offense was 643-162.  The Knights were never a threat to score.  The first team offense was left in to score 21 more points after halftime, long after the outcome was certain.  ??? As Chris Berman would say, "WHAT?"

Sad, so sad.  I feel for the players, parents, and fans on both sides of what went on in Northfield.  It's also sad to hear about the deterioration of sportsmanship from the Olaf camp.

SJU Folks-
I may be away from my computer for most of the week on business, so here's my toast (with a Coke ;) ) to a great afternoon of MIAC championship football this Saturday and all the other festivities that go with that.  Wish I could be there to enjoy the burgers and fellowship.  Flame on with the dancing and drinking and shoe in the door jokes!  Gunga Galunga!  ;D

Quote from the Olaf write-up:

"Carleton's Shane Henfling was 33-for-52 for 421 yards, four scores and two interceptions.

The St. Olaf defense gave up 328 passing yards in the first half (25-of-25, four TDs, no interceptions) but held Carleton to 131 in the second half (10-of-27, no TDs, three INTs)."

Maybe running up 85 wasn't quite so heinous...no, it still was and is ::).

Spackler, I am glad you brought that Bethel game up.  I was going to, so you saved me the trouble of looking up the details.  I was at a Vikes game just after that (in my SJU apparel, of course) and heard "did you hear what we did to Carleton?" from a Bethel player.  It was comforting that we destroyed Bethel shortly thereafter ;D

Great to hear that Meidt is consistent, at least!

Hey, I read somewhere yesterday that you wanted to drink what I was drinking.  Perhaps that would have been a good thing for you.  I was drinking coke.

Isn't it more about margin of victory than anything?
SJU 62 - Aug 7 -- 55 pt win
Olaf 85 - Carl 28 -- 57 pt win

Further, the Oles last score was a pick 6 by a senior DB who rarely sees the field, do you expect him to hold up? So really its a 50 pt win.

Did the Oles pass late in the game? yes.
Did the Johnnies pass LATER in the game? yes

In fact, the Oles last pass of the game was by the Backup QB in a Drive that started with 10 minutes left in the 4th.

The Johnnies LAST PASS WAS IN A DRIVE THAT STARTED WITH 5:49 left in the 4th, and they passed 4 times in that drive, and not all on 3rd down.

Were either team out of line? No. Its part of the game.

Looking at the stats of the SJU/AUG game.  Koefed passed for a TD with 10 min to go in the 2nd and then another TD pass was thrown 5 min later by someone else perhaps the backup qb.  SJU only scored twice in the 2nd half and most likely could have put up 100 points if they had kept their starters in til 10 to go in the 4th quarter.  But they didn't keep their starters in until the 4th because they are classy.

No. You just wish you could die.  ;)

Maybe a little Hair of the Dog is what you need.

Nice spin, Wahoo.

Vs. Auggie, Kofed took a seat at halftime .

Vs. Carleton, Penz was still slinging with 64 on the board in the fourth.

Game. Set. Match.

Carleton v. OLAF from Carleton POV

Extra security at the game was stupid and just causes people to get rowdy.  Kicking the kids out from Olaf for running around the track was even worse.  I did not think they were doing anything wrong or being disrespectful.  There were between 6 and 8 security guards at this game to "keep control".  The security's help was needed one time during the game.  That was when a kid running fell 6 steps of stairs head first in to a wall. (Do not want to elaborate, I was 10 feet from it and it was not a pretty sight)  But, the fire lane was blocked and the ambulance had to wait about 10 min to get to the kid.  I would think that would be securities number 1 priority!

Now, on to the game.  The first half was great to watch and it is too bad the score got so out of hand, becuase the carlies were playing some great ball the first half.  Henfling and Frank were unstoppable.  The whole running up the score thing got out of control.  A lot of it was fine and due to many mistakes by Carleton.(2 interception returns for TDs)  The unexcusable call was throwing it up to Gant for the 60 yard bomb (no it was not a screen play)  I think the coach was trying to prove a point that Gant is a better receiver than Frank for Carleton.  Gant was thrown to more than just the 60 yard bomb in the 2nd half.  60 yard catch or not, I believe anyone in attendance saw who the better receiver was.  Not that this battle was going to have any result on this game.

Great first half of football by the Carlies.  As for the Oles, it's too bad the coach couldn't save a few of those points for the important games he seems to always lose.

Rugman

While no one has asked my opinion on this, here are my suggestions for how a coach should manage a developing double monkey stomp out.

Once you are comfortable you have the game won and your starters have gotten enough exercise, you start substituting backups for your key players, usually your QB, running backs, wide receivers and any other starters that are knicked up.  This allows you to avoid unnecessary injuries and give your key postion backups a chance to develop in a game situation with the other starters still in the game.  This will usually result in some more scoring.  With this set up you should continue to operate close to the normal game plan, but also might want to shift towards some of the plays the starters don't run so well to see if the backups can do better.

Once you feel you have given these backups enough work with the first team, you pull all remaining starters, unless you feel you need to keep a few defensive starters in to preserve a shutout; not allowed though if the opposition has started to put in some of its backups or the double stomp-out is more than one defensive stand into the 4th quarter.  IMHO shutouts are more impressive than double monkey stomps.  You might still get a TD or two with these guys in there.  Would still run the normal game plan in this situation.

Once you have shown you can beat the opponents first team with your backups you've proved just about all you need to prove and it's time to start running 3rd+ stringers in there.  This will almost always signal the end of your scoring unless the opposition gifts you something.  Your goal at this point as a player and coach is to run the clock out and not do anything embarrassing.

And if these guys somehow extend the score it's time to really humiliate the opponent by trying not to score in whatever way works best.  The opponent's coach and fans will probably appreciate this but the players will likely feel like **** about it. ;D

BTW, this sorta seems to be the way Gags does it.
