SUMMIT!!!!!

Enough has been posted about the play selection in one of two rivalry games played yesterday. At the other end of the spectrum is this:

C 1-G  G02   TEAM rush for loss of 3 yards to the GAC5.
C 2-G  G05   Jesse Nelson rush for loss of 1 yard to the GAC6.
  C 3-G  G06   End of game, clock 00:00.
--------------- 12 plays, 33 yards, TOP 05:06 ---------------

                               ===========FINAL SCORE===========
                               CONCORDIA COLLEGE 34, GUSTAVUS 24
                               =================================

Hmmm.....I wonder if Concordia could have scored a few times in that drive? But I think they made a 'statement' without embarrassing anyone.

The amazing thing amidst all this discussion on Meidt and STO acting like a bunch of jacka$$es is that the Tommies lost to Hamline!    ;D

first time since 1995... sounds like a sloppy game all around-- blocked FGAs, blocked PATs, lots of interceptions, both ways.

Sounds like a let-down for the Tommies after playing very well the week before...Sauer seems to be the poster-boy for inconsistency.  It looks like the backup played...I presume that Sauer was injured?

I don't see why it is such a big deal.  If what FamilyGuyFan says about Ramler not wanting the entire STO squad there then I don't see why Olaf shouldn't have put up 100 on Carleton.  You can say that the score was classless but I don't see it.  What is even more classless is Ramler denying kids that may NEVER get to travel a chance to be a part of a game on the road with their teammates.  The MIAC allows these travel exceptions for a reason, to promote an even more fun and competitive atmosphere between certain schools.  If Ramler wanted to make a statement by denying these kids that chance then he and the entire Carleton athletics dept. should be humiliated like they were.  But, I guess we really shouldn't expect anything less than this from a former Johnnie.

Just like tmerton said earlier in reply #36077 "It starts at the top.  And I'll bet the Johnnies do less of it than anyone else precisely for that reason."  Where did Kurt learn his strategies?

You may think the rhetorical flip wins you the argument, but it costs you your dignity.  You can come up with all the reasons in the world, but the fact remains that STO determined their actions themselves.  You tar yourself with that ugly brush you are wielding.

So, it's UST @ STO next week in the season finale for both teams...   ;)

I can't believe I am saying this, but...

Go Tommies.

Roney versus Meidt - something has got to give

piperinsider

First there was vodka in the classrooms at Highland Park. Then there was six suspensions at Hamline. Not a great week for the alma maters.

And then the Star Tribune sports section was opened and saw the score - we have one more win than St. Thomas. Ha! Nice job to the Pipers playing through the distractions. Like what is going on over there with the new coach. We had a lead over SJU, and now a win over someone other than CAR, GAC or AUG in the MIAC.

Nice performance from O'Donnell over at MAC against Clown College. Too bad AP AD had to overshadow him today in a win over the "Super Charg..."

I'm going to do my best to make it to Arden Hills Saturday.

You mention the BC(U)/Carleton game from 2001, but you fail to point out some important distinctions.  While the final touchdowns in both games were interceptions returned for TDs, key difference is who was playing while the last 3-4 TDs were scored.
In 2001 for Bethel the last 28 points were scored by freshmen (see below) and the one before that was a long run by Mike Johnson with 10 minutes left in the 3rd Q.
  3rd Q 01:35 BC - Zack Ludvigson 34 yd pass from Tom Lachermeier (Paul Tschetter kick), 3-50 0:44, CARLETON 2 -           BC 55
  4th 08:30 BC - Jesse Dick 44 yd run (Ryan Davis kick), 4-56 1:28, CARLETON 2 - BC 62
   06:16 BC - Andrew Wright 69 yd run (Ryan Davis kick), 2-69 0:45, CARLETON 2 - BC 69
01:21 BC - Brian Pierce 95 yd interception return (Ryan Davis kick), , CARLETON 2 - BC 76

While I think the Bethel game score got out of hand, I can attest that during the final TD int return Coach J was yelling, as Pierce ran down the opposite sideline, for Brian to take a knee.

But you're right, the common thread between the two games, Chris Meidt.

Cheese-
True enough, but the first team did score 21 in the third quarter with the game decided.  Then the kids came in and nobody could take issue with letting them play.  And yes, the last score that day was on D and it's too bad Coach J's yelling for him to take a knee wasn't heard since that would have been a nice gesture.  I have no issue with any of the Bethel coaching staff that is still there and in no way was casting guilt on anybody who is still all Blue.  The common thread is what I was getting at, and it's impossible to ignore.

Oz,

Absolutely.

A better slam dunk from Down Under than anything Andrew Bogut has done.

Olefan,
who told you that those students were banned from Carleton's campus?

I heard that through multiple intermediary sources.  Apparently, it stemmed from the police being called.  I could be wrong.  Carleton will never enforce that violation, and the Northfield police won't do anything.

I also am not aware of this exception.  Maybe that is because I have never seen the Johnnies dress more than their travel limit.  You say this is for "rivalries" that they allow this?  If that is the case, then there must be a lot of coaches that say "no" to this.  SJU has never brought more players to St. Thomas so that they can have this "experience" with their teammates.  I also don't hear anyone whining about it...except certain posters on this board.

Maybe this is why STO didn't have a third-string QB to bring along and why Penz had to play so deep into the game.

I know that security threatened to call the cops, but I don't think that they were actually called.  So they were banned because they ran around the track?  Seems like a bit much.  I am friends with some of the people who were ejected, and someone might want to tell them that they are banned from Carleton.  This message board is the first place that I  have heard anything along those lines.  And what will happen to the carleton student who punched one of the St. Olaf fans in the face?  Will he be banned from attending athletic events at carleton?

Typically whenever St. Olaf plays Carleton the entire team travels.  This is the first year that this has not been the case.
