I realize this might be too soon to ask all but SJU56321 but...

Did Bethel really drop 3+ wide open passes in the end zone? Does that mean the Johnies were lucky to even be this close?

How does this shake up the playoff picture?

Best sort of guess at the West Region:

1. UWW
2. Central
3. St. Norbert's
4. Bethel
5. SJU
6. West coast team
7. West coast team
8. Cal Lut or Concordia of Wi.

Bethel and SJU can't play each other in first round, so Bethel at Central and SJU at St. Norbert's

I only heard about the one pass in the second half not caught and the announcers said the defender did block the view of the ball. Don't think that matters as to seeding, but sure, A UWW probably would have scored more.

Redtooth

Zip,

Please note that I corrected my earlier post and removed reference to you after reviewing your posts.....apologize for the mistake.  I noticed Collegeville Magic was posting his once a year sh1t and should have reviewed my post.  I like your guess for the playoffs.

Ok-I'm cool with that-just hard to not have a win in a championship game. But next year, SJU plays Bethel on Oct. 4th, so no final day drama.

I never said Disgrace RED-look it up! I said Horsesh*t which is what it was. The goal is to win the MIAC championship first, then playoffs second. You really think a team that loses to Bethel, has what it takes to beat UWW, a far superior team? The goal isn't to be one or two and done in the playoffs, it's about winning 5 games.
I support my SECOND PLACE Johnnies, but that doesn't mean I can't be critical of a really bad game-OR DOES IT? If that's the kid of fans you want-sorry not happening.

I agree, I said disgrace and maybe thats the wrong word, both teams were ranked and both played hard,  but the inability to stop the run killed us in the second half.  Bethel should have won by at least 17 but two wide open receivers dropped passes in the endzone.  Sugar coat it all you want but we still lost and SJU didn't play like the #3 team today, sorry. ::)

I didn't know it would take less than 5 minutes for Redtooth's coronary.   ;D  For an unabashed apologist, you certainly have the requisite blinders.

If only the explosions weren't so predictable and so easily triggered...

I'm just another Johnnie fan disappointed by seeing a squad underperform (and yes, losing to Bethel AGAIN is definitely underperforming) and I don't think I'm alone in not licking "Jimmy1"s boots.  He's a nice guy, just not automatically a good offensive coordinator because of his genetic code.  I'm just relieved that we still have a shot at the playoffs, and upset that we're taking second place in the conference to hated Bethel.

Call me whatever you like, but your personal insults for stating a widely held opinion (through the same forum I occasionally use) is pretty absurd.  I guess next time I should ask for your opinion before I post mine, since yours is the only opinion that counts...

Rugman

Just got home from the game and didn't think we played all that bad but WTF, when did we turn into a running team?  And if we're hell-bent on running the ball in the 4th quarter, where was the option? :(

Freebird

Great game between to evenly matched teams.  Personally I thought it was AK11 that killed the Johnnies.  Bethel maybe could have won by more but are fortunate to have won at all.

Best of luck to SJU in the playoffs.  Hopefully we will meet again MEANING my Bethel boys got through the first round.  Please be Norberts please be Norberts...we owe them one anyway for knocking us out of the hockey playoffs last year.

Tough day in Arden Hills today...

But the Stiftungsfestivities was great-- good attendance, wonderful food, and a lot of fun.  We ran out of kool aid, so you know you are having fun when that happens!!!  And there were a lot of BU fans walking by wondering why we were having more fun at their house than they were.

Hats off to the Royals, who did not make mistakes today-- they stuck to their game plan, maintained their composure, and played with the requisite sense of urgency that allowed them to make the big play when it counted.

As for the Johnnies, it was a story of the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The good: the Johnnie defense played very well despite being placed in some sticky situations and kept the Johnnies in the game.

The bad:  the special teams-- our punts weren't great, and that first kickoff return gave BU some momentum that we could have done without, not to mention was the difference in the game.

The ugly:  the offense in the second half.  Now, to be fair, Kofoed played about as poor of a game as I have seen in some time-- throwing the ball downfield without looking, passing without setting his feet, not making the fifth year senior play when it was needed-- say, to get more than 2 first downs in the second half.  There were some throws when it wasn't even clear where he was looking, and both interceptions were very bad judgment errors by him-- and he should have been picked a third time at the end of the game when a BU defender dropped a ball thrown right to him by Kofoed.

But the rest of the offense didn't help out, with Patnode looking the other way on a screen pass on third, and not a ton of a push by an offensive line.  There was no urgency on the part of the offense today, and it was evident from the get go-- and that was the difference in the game.

We didn't throw the ball well at all in the second half, and we didn't get our "playmakers" involved in the game at all-- that is a coaching error.  We were calling plays and offensive sets not to lose, not playing like the game was tied.  As a result, BU did the obvious-- pack the box and force us into third and longs.  So it was frustrating, because when it didn't work the first time, we did the same thing the second time-- with the same predictable result.

Well, new season now, but this team only goes as far as Kofoed can take us, and if we are on grass next week....we're in trouble.

Final score in Northfield: Olaf 54 STT 28

Pretty good win for the Oles.   I would have loved to have seen what this team could have done in the playoffs.  They are a very talented group.  This year's graduating class is going to be sorely missed on the field next year, and even more so off the field.

Good luck to the Johnnies and Royals in the playoffs.

SJU fans,
what happened today?  I thought that you guys were going to come out of their with the win, especially following the bye week.

Or West Region like this:

1. UWW
2. Central
3. St. Norbert's
4. Bethel
5. SJU
6. West coast
7. West Coast
8. UW-EC
Now since Uww and UW-EC can't play each other, nor SJU and Bethel we have:

SJU at UWW; Uw-EC at Central and Bethel at St. Norbert's. Yikes!
