Ole fan...

how about this...instead of the NFL playoffs lets have Green Bay and NE meet in a bowl in Tempe and Indy and Dallas square off in Miami...

The bowls could still be held for those teams that don't make an 8 or 16 team playoff, it would be like the NIT for those who don't make the dance.  The point is no matter how much "fun" is had at these events, they need to decide on the field who is the best team, not through every Tom, Dick and Harry voting on who is number one, so far things have worked, but what I am hoping for is for Oregon, LSU and Oklahoma to all have one loss or Missouri instead of Oklahoma and I can't forget about West Virginia, then do you know what you have?  A poor system and many people pissed off.

Figures someone who has never tasted the thrill of the playoffs with their team would want another game which is just an exhibition, rather than the thrill of the opportunity to win it all.

I know I am probably in the minority now with the bowls, but that is my opinion.  The biggest problem with football is the issue with the have and have nots.  The 5 BCS conferences have control over the most spots.  It makes it very hard for a mid-major to enter the grouping.  Utah and Boise State have made those gains, but would they be allowed in a playoff.  I know most people bring up the issue of playing the big teams, but most college schedules are done years in advance.  TCU already has games scheduled for 2013.  There is little incentive for a BCS school to play a strong mid-major.  In order to go to a proper playoff you would need to fix either need to work with the conferences to get all teams meaningful games or set the playoff up where every conference champion gets in to make it fair.  It would have to be at least 12 teams, but probably closer to 16 or 32, but then you might have up to a 5 week playoff.  I cannot picture many people in the big conferences going for that.  The Big 10 especially does not want to move away from the bowls since they might start to lose some of the key matchups or have to shorten the season.  Then you have the annual Thanksgiving week games and the conference championship.  The rest of BCS does not want a playoff since each BCS game before conference sharing nets a team between $10 and 15 million, and the big boys do not want to share that money.  I am in no way implying that an undefeated Hawaii is of the quality as many of the teams that will not win their conference, but don't they at least deserve a shot?  Then again could you imagine what would have happened to North Texas (last 5 win bowl team) to have to play the number 1 team in the nation in the first round.  You are probably still going to have the argument over the last team in or the first team out.  The NCAA basketball tournament is nice in the fact that every conference champion is in the tournament, and there are still enough at large bids for the big boys.

Finally, we are forgetting that if we decide to have a playoff that it will probably go through the Supreme Court so that all teams/confereces get a fair shot.  Major League Baseball is the only sport that is immune from any of those procedings.

Shoes, don't ask me hard questions, I'm old.

Sure you're not drinking? I didn't ask you anything (before the previous sentence, anyway).
Nice day, huh?

I ignored the warning someone posted while your were posting thing. And, I have been drinking. It is Monday you know.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Tmert-you going to be at SJU this weekend? And this is the weekend for the double win, unlike last weekend.

I hate to miss any of the games, but I'm not sure if we're gonna be out again this year - maybe if we host a regional final.  Anyway, I'm gonna have to let the folks from the south handle representing the state this week.  Gotta save up for next season when #2 is healthy again.

Feeble excuse. And you give me crap for hunting?

To use one of the expressions from my Navy days, if you'll buy, I'll fly! ;)

It might be cheaper for me to buy a round trip MSP to San Fran airfare than to gas up the Chevy Subdivision for the round trip up north. Travel time: about the same.
If you do stay home, I hope you go down to the bay and help them wipe the oil off of those poor seagulls.
Flash, were you at the helm of that thing?

The other possible scenerio is UW-EC & UWW in the Stagg Bowl. A lot of crazy things can happen during a playoff run.

That would be a dream come true considering UW-EC has only scored 3 TD's on the Hawks since the 2002 season!   ;D
"Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!"  Dennis Miller

Tough choices on who might win the STAM award.  I would think that Grant Weller Sr. OL from Concordia will get some votes, but maybe not enough to win.  He will be my sleeper pick.

Olefan,
App. State will make the playoffs.  They will get an at large bid and most likely make it into the semi's.  But we will see.

Congratulations to Bethel.  I hope they can win a playoff game this year.  I hope SJU makes it and gets to play them again.  Brice and I were there at 10:30 and barely got a seat; there must have been at least 3,000 people there.

I'm sick of watching Koefed.  The offense has pretty much been inconsistent all season and SJU was lucky to get wins at Carleton and against STO when the offense sucks during those games.  It will be nice when a new QB takes control next year but the offensive line needs to ge a lot better too.  The SJU offense is very average to below average this year.  I don't know how quick I'll be to throw $300.00 at a ticket on a charter flight this year to watch more offensive ineptitude.  If we go to UW-W or St. Norbert or somewhere else in the region, that's one thing but I don't think I'll be flying out Whitworth or SoCal.  Once again, good job Bethel.  Shame on the pathetic mess charitably described as the SJU offense.

Chewey: I was talking to DustySJU today and we wanna know what you were doing at Bethel for 2.5 hours before kickoff.  I mean protecting your seats?  Drooling over the virgins?  Looking for Red Hot Bennie?  Do tell sir.  Stiftungsfestivities crew is beginning to think you and Brice are anti-social...

TDT - Great post!  I even had to +k you for that one even though it almost killed me to do so.   Let me know when you are planning to meet in January so I can plan my vacation accordingly. :)

What time are you planning on arriving on Saturday and what hot beverages are you planning to bring?  I've got your cups and lids and I'll bring them with.  Just make sure your thermos is properly spiced!

Where is Ritz?  Has he recovered yet or is he still partying with Frank?

Zip - how many polish sausages are you planning to bring?

VOJ - what time on Saturday can you stop by to get one of Zip's famous polish sausages?  Let me know and I'll have one ready for you and the crew.  They are damn good.

As always, GO JOHNNIES!!!
