Denne the QB in 02 had a ankle that was mush by the Redlands and later playoff games as a result of an injury during the UST game.  If he had been his normal mobile self, we would have played Mount in the Stagg....we had to alter the offense a bunch with him not being able to move.  In addition to Elliott, the offense also had a RB named Crowley that ran for 1,400 yards.  The great part of Denne's success that year was that he had moved to TE after Keating won the QB job in the preseason, only to have to go back to QB when Keating scattered his left arm against WW in the third game.

Redtooth,
All correct information. From my seat (in the stands) it appeared that Jed did cross the goal line on the final play vs. Trinity. He even showed the official end zone paint on the ball. The question remains would have Crowley been able to go the next week in the Stagg with a pretty badly bruised sternum? The kid was tough, but that may have been asking too much to run the ball in his condition. Perhaps the "Blake Formation" would have come out a year early 8)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Nice to see the Johnnies ranked higher than the Royals in this week's AFCA national poll.

So who are the top candidates, or at least high profile candidates for the St. Thomas job now that Roney is stepping down? There is no reason that UST shouldn't be in the top 3 or 4 every year with the product they have at UST.

Who are the top MIAC assistants right now that might get a look?
Although Grant has stuck his head in for other MIAC openings, what are the chances he woud have any interest in the UST job? We know about his ties and love fest with SJU.
What other High School coaches have a shot or would want it, Nelson from Tonka, Scanlon from CDH?

Personally, although I doubt he is interested, I think Coach Nelson would do the best job there of any candidate.

As for ranking the MIAC and NWC-pretty hard to do, top to bottom. I would say that the top two-four teams are fairly equal, with the MIAC being a little better in the past few years. The bottom teams, really have no idea, I know top teams in the MIAC struggled at times with the lower teams, did the top NWC teams have a struggle or two the their bottom teams?

GAC trouncing Willamette and Willamette beating Linfield was the eye opener for me in the conference comparison.  GAC finished up pretty poorly in our league.

Whit could maybe hang with SJU BU or CON but the rest of the NWC is suspect this year.

Every team in the MIAC would beat L&C by 30.

After seeing Whit last year...and handling them without too much of a problem, if they are not improved over last year then I don't think they could hang, they would be like St. Norbert

VOJ-any idea which conference will send the refs for Saturday's game? Would like to see some WIAC refs, used to physical play.

Did you happen to notice that Buena Vista beat Bethel and then went 3-5 in the Iowa Conference?

Looks like the last time SJU lost a first round home playoff game was 30 years ago, 1977-ROR's heartbreaker. I like SJU chances to continue that streak.

Zip - do a quick edit and change your 1997 to 1977.

105 - at the Trinity game that you were speaking about I was on the end zone line right before halftime and I clearly saw the ball cross the goal line.  Now it may have only crossed by a football or so but it was cyrstal clear and not hard to call.  SJU got the shaft on that play.  After watching us dominate in the second half it obviously would have had a large impact on the game.  I would have loved our chances had the game gone into overtime that day.
Go Johnnies!!!

Fellas: It is worth noting this clown White Silly is NOT a Johnnie poster/fan.  He is from perennial MIAC doormat Auggie Tech.  When my rankings come out for the Top posters of the MIAC he won't be on the list...

Longtime posters will remember the promotional work done on Andrew "Pace Picante" Passanante by the infamous poster, Sofa King.  This White Silly loser reminds me of him a little...

I like the White Silly.  He makes me laugh

Folks, as mayor, I would like to officially welcome longtime-lurker, newly-registered LBean to the board.
Please welcome him warmly, in the usual fashion if he ever figures out how to post a message. (hell, it took him a couple of years to figure out how to register).
C'mon LBean, scratch 'em if you got 'em.

UND fans on this board should remember this one,  the water bottle incident:

Sounds logical to me - esp. if you can't get BDB to make an emergency run.   ;D
