Thank you to the St. John's seniors for the past four years of pouring your hearts and souls into Johnnie football.  You had a great four year run and did St. John's proud.  Without you outstanding young the joy I and so many others take from all that is Johnnie football would not be possible.

Go Johnnies!

Amen.  The King is dead.  Long live the King.

There was never any risk of this year's team being confused for the 2003 team.  You should try reading the posts that have occurred on this board during the entire season.  I think that would help you become a little more informed.

That's much harder than you may realize. For the casual observer (like myself) or posters from other regions (like BeaverofYore), reading 10+ pages a day can be a chore...and the football chatter is sometimes hard to find.

This board is definitely getting an in-game updates board next year.

Best of luck to the Royals.

The MIAC champions vs. the IIAC champions. Something has to give. It should be a battle next week in Pella.

Please, Royal fans- support your team. You should pack at least 3 fan buses and  a bunch more road trips. Check out the town, sample the Dutch Letters. This is the play-offs, so hit the road. You never know when the ride will end, so don't make the excuse that you'll go "next week". You do know this is for the West Region Championship, right? If you win the team gets a trophy. So get that crazy bunch of guys that goes shirtless with R-O-Y-A-L-S painted on their chests & get your butts to Pella next week!

105-
Thank you, you said it so I didn't have to.  I hope the BU faithful appreciate the opportunity that they have to go experience December playoff football and the Dutch letters and all that other stuff.  Many a great Bethel team has not reached the heights that this team is rising to, and who knows when BU might pass this way again?  For those of us who can't, please make the trip and support the guys.  PLEASE!!! ;D

I agree with Pat.  The play-by-play on this board, simply ruled.

The Johnnies have owned us for so many years now...and our respect for you guys has had us scared.  That final buzzer today...well, a sigh of relief was felt to the depths of our wooden shoes.  Congratulations on a great season, Johnnies.  I know that you'll be back...and yeah...the butterflies will undoubtedly form again...ugh.

"Johnnie Week," as dutchfan1 called it, was a lot of fun.  As a reader of your board...I know that you aren't going anywhere  ;D.  Your fanbase is something I only dream ours can aspire to become someday.  Perhaps the removal of this St. John's monkey(stomp) off of our collective backs this one time will pull a few of us out of the woodwork, and more banter will be enjoyed the next time around (you know that there will be future meetings).

I want to extend the welcome already shared to the Bethel faithful.

Having witnessed a national championship won by the Central women's basketball team in 1993...I know that if you're a Bethel student...you don't want to miss the game this coming Saturday.  It's something you'll never forget.  No matter the outcome...support your fellow classmates and lifetime friends.  Also, as it has been mentioned...there's good balogna, and Dutch treats to be had as well. ;)

Trying to understand what happened to SJU today as I look back over their season, and a couple things stand out in my mind.

1. Defensive Frailties-  You're thinking, "Thank you, Captain Obvious," but there have been signs of a blow-up game like this happening every time SJU has played a team with decent offense.  Olaf, UST, Bethel, and now Central were able to move the ball much easier than anyone could have expected.  Bethel moved the ball on the ground, but the other three teams threw the ball all over place and pointed to a lack of speed/athleticism in the SJU secondary.  Perhaps the talent level at CB and S was down some this year?

2. Lack of Home Run player on Offense-  Alex Kofoed's perceived struggles may be attributable to not having receivers of the caliber Johnnie fans have been spoiled by in years past.  SJU gets behind early today and have to throw the ball down the field to get back in the game, but their leading receiver is a RB?  Take nothing away from Brian Weber who is a good player, but this SJU team really missed having a player like Blake Elliot, Nate Kirschner, Ben Sieben, Adam Herbst, or Chris Palmer to go back even further.

"To me, coaching is really simple.  If you have the best players, you win."  Dr. Tom Osbourne

There were signs all season long that this wasn't the speediest or most naturally talented SJU team there's ever been.  Pointing fingers at the coaches or any one player isn't the correct answer here.  I'm sure there was no lack of effort on anybody's part, but rather a dip in the athleticism of the team overall and especially at some key positions.  All you can expect of these kids (remember, that's what they are) is that they give the best they've got.  Brighter days are ahead, and this too shall pass.

Very good analysis Carl.  I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb here and predict that somewhere down the line it is going to be revealed that Kofed was fighting off some type of hand or wrist injury since mid-season.  While there may not have been a steller receiver this year, it was a good, deep group who caught the ball when it was thrown to them.

Congrats to the Dutch and Bethel!.  Clearly the cream of your conferences this year.  Consider the next game your superbowl.  This year's MUC is also not the '03 MUC, so your trip to Alliance will be longer and more painful than our trip to Pella.

Also, good crowd at Bethel yesterday. Left the game before the clinching TD so I could get home and delete my smartass personal text and signature.  I guess we ended up bringing very little to central Iowa yesterday and the monkeystomp was on us.

OK, so we carry over some good guys for next year...anybody got any info on who's heading for SJU next year? :)

Yeah -- although I'm still catching up -- wasn't there one a few years back?

DutchHawk

Congrats to SJU on a great season!! I for one definitely wasnt expecting what I saw although I wont complain. What is the word on Bethel...good running back I hear? We played against Wetzell in 05 but they had Porta then and he didnt throw a ton.

Do you guys stick with conference affiliations to support now or can we get any Johnnies to support the fellow red and white? :)

Perhaps -- the old board software had a limitation as to the number of posts that could be kept at any one time so I'd suspect we split them into a separate board.

Future home of in-game updates for the MIAC. I'll also move Saturday game posts in here.

Alright -- I did kind of a rough cut on the board to get Saturday's game posts in a separate section. Will be a little confusing in the short term but it'll work itself out.

Thanks Pat, it saved me 20 pages of reading what I witnessed in person.
