...nice to see everyone getting along out here!

Good luck to BU this weekend, what a great season!

Scrubby, my man! Good to have you back! Where've you been?

Did your grandson get to play this year?

Quote from: Pat Coleman on November 26, 2007, 11:15:58 AMAny win in the postseason elevates the entire conference, especially here where the MIAC has a shot to shed its one-trick pony status.

Pat,

Your comment above from the other day had me review playoff results referenced above.  The first thing I would like to point out is the record listed for the MIAC on the front page is inaccurate.  It should be 25-13, not the 23-13 listed.  That would be a winning percentage of .658 moving it ahead of the NWC for second place.  That said, the SJU record for that period of time is 20-7 for a .741 winning percentage.  The 20 wins is more than any other conference minus Mount Union.  During that time SJU accounts for 80% of MIAC playoff wins while Mount Union (31-3) accounts for 74% of the OAC wins.  On a percentage basis both conferences must have one-trick ponies ;D

For the Bethel and Central posters, the above information may help explain why SJU backers have been slow to acknowledge your respective playoff wins this year....no disrespect intended.

The above information is impressive, I wont doubt that. But I dont understand why you cant "acknowledge" our wins. Maybe since they are Bethel's first 2 ever, Central is a meager 7-5 over that time frame, 21-17 all time. I dont see how you cant "acknowledge" the worst beating since 1993 to a MUC team that I believe may have won a national title. We deserve to be "acknowledged" for what we have done, maybe not so easily "accepted" by SJU faithful but hopefully you see my issue with your word choice. Not meaning to sound like Im splitting hairs but acknowledged makes it seem like it didnt happen.

Not that it matters, well up or win total this weekend! :)

Fins, is the ice house pic from last year or do you have a spot with that much ice?

MUC is sort of an accident by location.  They get great players that could not cut the grade at D-1 programs or who were injured and d-1 programs lost interest in them and they are in the heart of football country.  Think of all the d-1 and d1AA programs in Ohio and PA and MI.

Chewey,

As much as you may want to believe this entire statement, nothing could be further from the truth.  Yes they are located in the heart of football country....as are all the other schools in the OAC, PA and Michigan.  The notion that Larry is winning with drop downs is completely false.  I would challenge you to find more than a handful of transfers over the years at Mount that had an impact....none of which were grade related.  Most of their stars over the years have been at Mount start to finish in their careers....Borchert, Kmic, Smeck, Moore, Marino, Pugh, Knapp, Adamson etc...

Chuck Moore for instance was originally recruited by Penn State right?  Did he not get injured (knee) and then Penn State lost interest and he went to MUC?  I remember much being made of that one animal on the d-line in 2003, a big black guy, who had been recruited by Ohio State but got injured or something and then went to MUC.  I'm not trying to cut MUC.  Kehres has obviously done a great job and he has some great  connections, one being the old Detroit Lions head coach.  If I remember correctly wasn't Adam Marino in the d-1 drop down category too?

I believe I took that shot 2 years ago. Last year I was in that same spot, but there wasn't enough ice to support the big blue house. Heading up tomorrow to pull the houses back out to that spot on Friday for the opener on Saturday. One year we were there, which is a bay that freezes sooner, and the lake in the background was open water. Standing out on the ice taking a leak, and a boat drove by.  :o
Nice thing about thin ice though, it's much easier to cut the hole. ;D

So, I guess it all comes down to this: You, oldbethel27, don't care what I or any other Johnnie says and no self-respecting Royal would care anyway.    You win.

Don't mistake slow acknowledgment for no acknowledgment.  Your squad clearly outplayed SJU in every aspect and I believe that fact has not been disputed by any SJU fan.  Keep in mind one of the greatest strengths for SJU (and its fans) during the last 20 years is the big picture understanding of the playoffs.  Winning a game or two the last couple of years has been a disappointment for the program used to 3-5 games played each playoff season.  Not to be flip, but winning a game or two in no way compares to playing in the semis or the Stagg.....part of the process, yes but no substitute for being one of the last 2-4 teams.

I hear you on the open water, last January I was back after 16 months in Iraq and there were whitecaps on Lake Shetek, granted that was in southern Minnesota, but I never recall that happening before,  Needless to say it was the first time I have ever gone back in the winter and missed out on getting ice time in.  Hope that you have enough Hamm's in stock for opening weekend.   :D

I did not use such broad terms (re: what I/we do/don't care about).  I, nor any self-respecting [insert affiliation here] do not care whether anyone (not just Johnnies or Johnnie Wannabes) gives recognition.  In other words, my point only concerned caring about recognition - it did not concern caring in general.

If you base a team's success on being in the final four teams out of a possible 220, you're going to be disappointed quite a lot of time--unless you're a purple raider I suppose.  Maybe Johnnie fans have reason to be disappointed as they were ranked in the top 5 for most of the year, but then again Central was ranked 3rd in the final poll making the johnnie loss on the road more probable than not.  SJU had a great season and won in a variety of ways perhaps without the same level of talent on the '03 team.

If it makes the johnnie fans feel better to think that Bethel's major measure of success is a victory over Saint John's, then so be it, but I've got a feeling that the players and coaches for Bethel can't wait to get to Pella.

Chewey,

Your two examples; Moore and Kinnard (actually an OT) don't help your "could not cut the grade" statement.  The fact that Moore blew out an ACL as a senior in HS and Penn State didn't offer him a scholarship does not mean he was a drop down....and certainly not a scholastic slouch....graduated in Dec 01 the week of the Stagg Bowl and immediately went to work for a financial firm in Cleveland as a Securities Analyst....past on an opportunity to play pro football, instead gave a kidney to his younger sister.......PURE CLASS KID and one I want on my team.

Kinnard originally enrolled at OSU....during pre-season camp one of his parents falls in ill in Alliance where he is from and he decides to come home to take care of the family and play at Mount....hardly a drop down without a valid reason.

Collegeville Magic

Good luck to both Bethel and Central on Saturday, and let's hope that our region winner puts up a good fight at the next level!

As much as I can't believe this statement is coming from my fingertips, I'm cheering for the Royals this weekend.  If the J's can't be in the game, here's hoping the MIAC goes as far as possible.

The Hamm's is right by the garage door. Don't want it to freeze and ruin its delicate flavor. This time of year we use coolers to keep the beer from freezing and coozies so our hands don't.

Some people Fins  ::) .  Glad that the Hamm's is cold and the hands are warm, well aware of the technique.  Mr Magic, you are almost deserving of smite due to that remark, please refrain from such outlandish comments in the future.
