Why are we off the h/a alternating with so many teams?  Augsburg, Bethel, Concordia and Carleton

I believe the answer to your question is this: in year 1 of the "alternating schedule" you play your normal home/away games.  In year two, the teams you played at home you now play away, and vice versa.  In year 3 your home/away schedule resets, and has nothing to do with year 2.  Year 4 is opposite to year 3, year 5 is reset, and so on...

Willy Wonka

I'm sure Johnnie posters love hearing that Frank and Wonka have combined forces (as of Monday morning, anyway) and will soon be running Gustieville East, formerly known as Red Wing. No word yet if Mongo intends to join the shinanigans.

The first rule we'll be sure to establish is TDT is no longer allowed within a 30-mile radius of the city; this puts games at River Falls, Carleton and St. Olaf right on the edge, so he'd best be careful. This ban also includes air space for the numerous flights Momma TDT pays for so her son can join his SJU brethren from his apartment in Florida which, surprisingly, Momma TDT also pays for.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Too funny not to share: When ya gotta go.

I recall Cam McCambridge inspecting a rather unpleasant bruise on the sideline in '99, but at least he was mostly hidden from view. ::)
Nice day, huh?

Note the MN angle ... I've never had (or even heard of) Surly Darkness - anyone know it?  Duff?

Heck yeah!  It's brewed in Brooklyn Center.  It is very, very tasty, but ridiculously priced.  I think 4-packs of 16 oz cans run around $8 or so.

But, if you run across it in a bar, give it a go!

A tradition unrivaled...

You make it sound like it was a bad thing-- after all, wasn't BU 2-2 in those games, with its 2 wins coming in Arden Hills?  I assume that you are referring to the period between 1997-2000, which saw at BU, at SJU, at BU and at BU.  (A few years ago there were some comments by Bethel fans in here how it was unfair that they had to play in Collegeville 3 times in 4 years with the off year at the dome...umm...the Johnnies didn't make the schedule or put that game in the dome).

I think the MAC loss has made the MIAC follow something like a 10-year schedule rotation, with each team playing home and home each five times in a ten year period.  That doesn't exactly even out to the straight alternating schedules.  It used to be that Concordia, on its fantastic old site, had posted the future MIAC schedules, but I can't seem to find them now on the redesigned site; and SJU only has listed the 2008 and 2009 schedules on its site.

With all trust, there is no conspiracy in schedules here...

johnnie_esq! long time since I've heard from you!  It WAS a bad thing to not be able to play in the greatest football venue on earth as much as I would have liked.  To be sure, I'm by no means saying it was unfair to us, or to anyone else.  The scheduling is as I laid out earlier... alternating with a reset every even year.

Speaking of schedules...a little birdie tells me the Cobber/Dragon Power Bowl is no more as of next fall.

Can any Cobbers up north confirm or deny this? I'd hate to rile up Pat with another "rumor."

I know, I'm just giving you trouble for finding something to complain about while beating SJU!   8)

I've been reading the banter all week about who to cheer for this weekend, and have been thinking about it pretty extensively-- which is why I haven't weighed in on that issue.  So here is my thoughts on it, in case anyone cares:

Go West Region.

It's pretty impressive, really, how amazing our region is.  We have three of the 8 teams remaining left in the field.  We are the only ones other than those from Alliance that have a claim to the Walnut in Bronze in the past ten years.  We tend to think we play a tough brand of football that is to a level matched only by Mount Union, and our postseason record shows that.

All that being said, I think either Central or Bethel would be a fine representative to the next level-- that's not to say either one of them is capable of taking down the giant, but both of them are quality football teams.  Given the SJU history of playing Central, who is the IIAC's version of SJU, there is a great deal of respect for the Dutch in Collegeville (even though their loss in Pella this year cost me a couple cases of Olde Johnnie Ale to my Central alum friend-- I was hoping for a second straight case of Dutch letters arriving to my office direct from Pella...).  Their success is admirable and worth respect, as they have "been there."  And the best thing is they always act like it.

While in past years Bethel, especially its supporters, have been notorious for not acting like "they have been there before".  The Steve Johnson statements, the personal foul incidents, the soggy field, the concept of respect, the stomping on the logo illustrate these ideas at play.  But the funny thing about this year's Bethel team has been that they don't seem to have the same level of "Napoleon Syndrome" that past year's teams have had.  Instead of whining about why nobody respects them, they seem to be far more business-like, as though they now expect success.  Don't get me wrong, there are still a fair number of annoying BU fans (some lady who insisted on calling BU's "domination" of SJU while walking to the parking lot after the game to her friend on the phone happened to be right in front of our tailgate comes to mind quickly-- yes, BU won, but put its hail Mary type pass with a minute left in perspective-- that ball floats out of bounds and BU loses the game, because their offense may have moved the ball, but it didn't do so quickly at all)-- and every team has annoying fans (some would say ESPECIALLY SJU).

But after the game, it wasn't Steve Johnson talking up his team to the media; it wasn't students stomping on logos-- it was another win for BU.  They are finally starting to act like they have been there before.  And good for them.  They are beginning to realize that beating SJU isn't the end-all, but achieving true success on the national scale is-- and that means winning playoff games against good teams.  They have been fairly fortunate thus far-- getting Concordia (WI) was a great draw as a first round opponent, and catching UWEC down to their 5th string QB certainly helps.  But tomorrow's game is a real test for them-- one where it will be a true gut-check for their program, and if they win that, they may get a shot at real prominence-- trying to climb the Mount.  Last I checked, even UWW hasn't done that.  Ever.

Adding another team with a storied history to the mix will be good for the MIAC-- it gets lonely with just Concordia and SJU up at the top!   ;D

So, while (no offense) I don't care who other MIAC'ers cheer for, I would be happy if either of these teams represent the West Region.  Not as happy if the Cardinal and Blue were there, but still ok with it nonetheless.  So, GO CENTRAL!  GO BU!

Anybody besides me notice how BDB has lightened up since Anna Fridays were cut off? I, for one, say bring um back. If Pat kicks you off, you can always come back as busdriver or sofaking.
