Well, that didn't go so well, but congratulations anyway on your breakout season, Bethel.  Let's hope you can build on it and we can have two teams representing the MIAC and doing well every year.  Maybe three teams with the way the Cobbers looked at the end of this season.

And the good news is that the selection committee is willing to break regions so that you have a chance of making it further in the playoffs before running into us ;).   This year (and those others) was an anomaly....

Congratulations to Bethel on a great season.  I enjoyed watching your fans and students.  They never stopped showing their team how they felt about them.

Your defense was quick and well coached.  They played their assignments well and "stayed home."  They just spent too much time on the field.

Despite the loss, I know you enjoyed the ride.  Hope everyone made it home safely.  Merry Christmas to all.

Well Minnesotans since the season in over in both of our conferences now, on to bigger and better things.  Im getting my ice fishing gear tuned up.  Are you making any ice up there.  I am itching to get on the ice, drink Grainbelt, and reel in some nice gills.

Yep, ice is being made in central Minnesota with a couple nights below zero (Friday night/Saturday morning it was -11*F) I have seen many portable "clams" on the ice. I have yet to see any "condos" in my area, but a few more below zero nights & they'll be out as well.

Grainbelt is a good choice, but the official beer of MIACPP is Hamm's  ;)

Josh Schoaf, Rosemount, Mn, a freshman qb is on the WW roster. Anyone know anything about him?

Good to see 56321 at WW yesterday. Actually got to see a pretty good game.

Problems: the beer was freezing before we could drink it.
several half full frozen beers rolling around the flashmobile

Solution: next cold weather game, bring scotch.

Thanks again, Flash. Yea it was fun drinking the Beer Slushies. The turf really limited both teams, so what you saw on the video is not what UWW will bring on the fake stuff in Salem, should be a good game next Saturday.

That would have been great to go to the UWW game.  I must admit that I thought UWW would beat MHB worse than that, especially given that the game was in Wisconsin and not Texas.  I am sure it was a shocker for the MHB players and faithful to play up there in December.

Bethel had progress this year.  They actually won a playoff game and then some so there is reason to be quite proud even though they got skunked by MUC.  At least they have Flannery for 3 more years.

Much like SJU, there will be a bunch of unknown commodities in the starting 22 for Bethel next year.  It will be interesting to see what the '08 edition of the Royals will be like.  Hope all the BU faithful got home safely, it looked like they'd have to go through some sketchy weather.  Merry Christmas all around! :)

Flash, I've found that Scotch is the solution to a lot of problems ;D

I was speaking to my pappy today.  My folks live up in Grand Rapids and he was telling me that they got about 12-14 inches of snow earlier this winter and it's ruined the freeze.  Apparently there is only about four inches of ice where where he has his fish house and only and inch where he wants to put it.  Lot's of slush along the lakeshores.

Oz, What lake are your folks in Pokegama, Sugar....? That area (Grand Rapids) the fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing is really a boom to the local economy. I hope it (poor ice) doesn't hurt the local economy too much this seasn.

Their place is north of town, but of course you can't put your house on your own lake.  The fishin's always better at your buddies place.  So you put your house out off his joint and he puts his out off yours...  But my dad's got the (new) house (always gotta have a new house) off Tioga beach right now, if you know the bays of Pokegama.  He spears, as that's the only winter fishing that really counts.

It's possible that the complaining about the ice may be more fancy than fact.  Unless it freezes in dead wind with no snow for two months so that there is 12'' of glass-like ice, then it's a bad winter.  And even then the ice is to thick to chainsaw, the ice is too slick for the truck and the snow doesn't stick, etc, etc, etc.

Speaking of winter in GR reminds of the first time my wife (to-be at that point) visited my home town.  We flew into Rapids on the 15 seater from the Cities.  Seems like it was January from memory but you would think we would be there a couple weeks earlier for Christmas (it was a long time ago anyway).

Of course, she's a city girl used to the comforts of the the big smoke and as the plane circled over town to line up with the runway she muttered, "you gotta be friggin' kidding."  Or words to that effect.  She realized it's really small town America when we find my folks weren't at the airport to meet us, but the guy at the counter told us that my dad left one of the cars in the parking lot and the keys are in the glove box.

So we headed up through town (I took a three minute detour to show that the town is not as small as she thought, although I may have confirmed her doubts rather than alleviated them) and as we got to the northern end of town I took another detour and drove out on a lake.  She wondered what I'm doing driving into a paddock (field) and why a road seemed to go the middle and stop.  It was funny how her knees went weak when she realized where she was.

As we get further into the off-season and are in need of more story telling, I'll tell you of her first experience driving in snow...
