So, Christmas shopping time is here and it's time to roll out the list of 'God why did we buy that?' presents:

* This year's winner is likely to be the talking My Little Pony for the almost three year old.  How many days until we're all nuts?

But the all time grand prize winner was the unintended bonus of last year's Outdoors Barbie, or something like that, that came with a gold lab.  The dog comes with these little brown pellets (oh, great, the near two year old at that point will surely choke on those... no such luck).  What are the pellets for?  To feed the dog.  But then what?   Why you crank the tail, of course, and the dog take a dump.  Best present ever: Sporting Barbie and her dumping dog Fido.  If that's the creativity it takes to make kid's toys nowadays, I don't have it in me.

With that, I'll say a Merry Christmas and wish all of you with young children fun in shopping, those with old children congratulations in your escape, and those yet to be married this encouragement:  Hurry up and get hitched so you can be happy like the rest of us. ;)

Any predictions as to this weekend?  Brice is coming over and I've impressed my wife into weekend cooking/slaving service so we're looking forward to a MUC blowout with full stomachs and full mugs of beer, at least.  I'd like to see them get knocked off but I seriously doubt that they will.  Even though it was early in the season, UWW was not able to beat a terrible SCSU team (D-2) whom MUC would have literally mauled.  UWW's QB was healthy then too.  We'll have to wait until next year to see if someone can knock them off.

Chewey/Bryce;  The slaving part sounds interesting..... however, will the two of you have time to scan the New York Times Bestsellers list or will you settle for a quick trip to the Minnesota State Mankato bookseller?

Developing...

We'll have to check out the MSU bookstore.  Maybe there will be a good and informative book about how Halloween costumes and toys perpetuate "gender stereotypes" and "roles."  Maybe there's a good book about which neutered, mindless nickname/mascots have been approved by the NC00 Schutstaffel.  Incidentally, one of my partners, the one who is female, was complaining about how the staff, who are all female, gang up and pick on a different female staff peson every so often.  Evidently,  a different person gets the yick yack attack every so often.  I simply told her that nature was simply doing what it always does and that it was God's way of pointing out the reality that women should not be in the workplace.  We all had a good laugh.  My wife's already learned that lesson.  I wonder if Brice and I will find a book about that stereotype at the MSU bookstore.

OZ I have to ask.  Are you from down under or move there after your days in Collegeville.

One year I decided to buy my friends kids a children's lacrosse set for Easter instead of candy (help them burn off the candy from the Easter Bunny). They proceeded to use the sticks to beat each other! I am not sure there are good gifts for kids. They will always find a way to make them a bad idea...both the kids and the gift... ;) ;D

Klopenhiemer -

Born in Berkeley, CA; raised in Grand Rapids, MN (up Nord); expatriot, following my Johnnie days, in Oz.

What do I miss most, you ask?  Well, fins photos of his ice fishing adventure reminds me of one of my most nostalgic memories: the wholesome thawing feeling walking back into a warm house, freezing cold, half wet and busting to have a nice hot shower in order to warm up (and clean up the fish guts smell, of course - we always had to clean the fish behind the garage before we were allowed in the house).

The Klopenhiemer family has fond memories of Grand Rapids.  Grandparrents had a cabin on a lake in the area and grandpa klop had a heart attack there.  I still live in the midwest and do not get to ice fish the amount I want to.  Half frozen stinking of fish guts is a nice way to spend a saturday in my book.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

What's the problem? That's what the Indians did with them!  ;D

My grandparents (when they were still around) had a place on bluewater lake north of grand rapids, beautiful place, but not great for fishing.  However, wabana, which is connected is a good fishing lake.
You familiar with either Oz? (you mentioned being from the area north of GR)

Wabana is about six or seven miles from my folks' place up 49.  There are some tennis courts near the Wabana town hall that we would play on from time to time.  During the summer between my JR and SR years in HS a friend and I decided we would see how fast the metallic leafy green Plymouth Volare station wagon could go... at 1 am.  Well, doing just over 80 and half a mile from the Wabana town hall the u-joint gave out and the drive shaft dropped to the ground.

If your grandparents had their place in the mid-80's they may have noticed a deep gouge in the highway from where the front end of the shaft did a pile driver in the road before the whole thing was ripped off.  Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the couple hour walk home and the explanation to the old man the next morning on where my car was...

I don't understand the smiters either. I was over on the WIAC board to congratulate Beaver and lost some. Another first time poster there had an innocuous post about his being a UW Lax grad and wishing the Warhawks Good Luck. One post and -1 on the karma hit. Klopenheimer, who seems like a good dude also seems to be a little low in the tank, Must just be a lot of A - Holes out there. My only question is - Do A - Holes know they're A - Holes?

BDB

So, my family is decorating the Christmas tree last night as I supervise with a few cold Hamm's.

Son of BDB drops and breaks the 1987 Twins World Series ornament.

When I can give karma I will return the favor.  Much appreciated.
