My original post may have been on another board, so I'll go back to my first thoughts on this game.  Because it appears that UWW has the potential to match up well the few and minor weaknesses for MUC, I could see this game staying somewhat close.  With the weather they are expecting, it could reduce the effectiveness of the MUC receivers and even to some extent the scrambling ability of Micheli...not complete eliminate it, but reduce it.  UWW has already shown that they can be effective in sloppy weather.

All that said, and while I feel the game will be closer than most think, I can see this game turning into an easy win with MUC taking control of the game with a late score in the second quarter, and putting it away around the middle of the third.  I don't think a 3+ TD win is out of question, I just don't feel it will be that way.  This will be the best defense and the best offense MUC has faced this year.

I like what another poster had to say about score of the game...the lower the point total, the more it favors UWW.  Poor weather conditions and a pretty good defense could hold the Mount offense in check.  But, I still think the MUC defense is going to be a bit too much for UWW to overcome.

My one caveat...I haven't seen either team play this year.  Just one game of Guilford College.
Well there's the rub, JP.  When you look at the statistics for MUC you say Holy $h!t, and then you look for little cracks in the stats you can find something here, something there...then you see them play and you say Oh I see now! :o

I won't mind being proven wrong about the game staying close!

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Ehh, I'm not overly surprised -- I don't know too many schools that really want to travel that far and not get a home game in return the next year.

Perhaps SJU could return a game to Marietta.

Why should SJU do that...we bought them and they served their purpose, I know fans would like to see competitive games but if you can buy teams and bring them in then do it...

Flash-Things should get better if you just stick it out 'til noon, like this kid:

A teacher noticed that a little boy at the back of the  class was  squirming around, scratching his crotch, and not paying attention.

She went back to find out what was going on. He was quite embarrassed and whispered that he had just recently been circumcised and he was quite itchy.  The teacher told him to go down to the principal's office. He was to telephone his mother and ask her what he should do about it.  He did and returned to his class.

Suddenly, there was a commotion at the back of the room. She went back to investigate only to find him sitting at his desk with his 'private part' hanging out. 'I thought I told you to call your mom!' she said.  'I did,' he said, 'And she told me that if I could stick it out till noon, she'd come and pick me up from school.'

Well, I found this link on my website and I thought it was fitting to post it for two reasons!

1.  It shows Beaver's ability and determination to overcome a slight black eye incident to win the Gags trophy.

2.  It shows the creativity of the D3 community to come up with innuendo humor.

Congrats to Beaver on the accomplishment and to you, the D3 community.

I do believe that teams out of the west (even though UWW was not in that bracket this year) are stronger than those out of other areas.  There seems to be more parity in the west strength-wise.  MUC is in a different class altogether.  UWW will probably be tougher than MUC's usual opponents but I still think MUC wins pretty big.  I'd love to see them get taken down, even though I have a couple of buddies on the MUC side (sorry).  I have nothing but admiration and respect for LK and what he's done there but it would be nice to see someone other than MUC as champs.  I don't know how that 2005 Linfield squad lost to UWW but I bet Linfield could have beaten MUC that year.  I have a lot of respect for UWW too but I did not think anyone would take down Linfield that year with that QB and receiving corps they had.  That LK has developed a program/system that is usually year-in/year-out a couple notches above SJU, Linfield, UWW, MHB, Central, Bridgewater, the entire OAC, etc. speaks volumes to me.   If they still had that defensive coordinator who left a couple of years ago, they'd be even more scary.

Chewey...you are right on...I have been saying this for years, that the West is the DEEPEST, STRONGEST AND HARDEST REGION TO MAKE IT OUT OF.  In way MUC and UWW proved my point, they were not tested this year in the playoffs, in any game until UWW was in the semi's and I am surprised by that...

I think if year in year out MUC had to come out of the West they would not have as many titles as they do...Yes they are a great program but they are not tested week in week out...

A MUC friend said the defense actually is scarier because he's no longer there. Montgomery I think was the old one, and they said the defense has actually gone up another notch since he's left, though they certainly still have great respect and admiration for what he did there.

The main difference is that now, Mount Union has a more attack oriented defense.  They are more willing to attack the ball, blitz more often, and anticipate where things are going before the ball goes that way.  Before, it was more of a "bend but don't break" mentality that reacted to what the offense did.  Now, they try to dictate what the offense will do.

I agree with you SFury.....With Vince Kehres at the helm of the defense the change in strategy has been sick...Aggressive every play.  When Montgomery was DC, MUC would give up 1200-1600 yards rushing per season.  Prior to last week MUC had given up 206 :o :o
