This discussion has taught me that I must go to too many movies. I have seen I Am Legend, Charlie Wilson's War and National Treasure 2. I must say that the age demograpic in the theater for Charlie Wilson's War was much different than the other two! ;)

I Am Legend-it was okay. I am a Blue Jacket fan, so I am good at suspending belief! ;) I wasn't sure if the beasts ability to duplicate the trap was a sign of them evolving or not. That thought I found more frightening/intriguing than anything else.

Charlie Wilson's War- great movie! I could have lived my whole life without seeing Tom Hank's ass though! It was interesting to watch this movie in the context of world events now.

National Treasure 2- I love a good action/adventure movie. The trip to Mt. Rushmore reminded me of summer vacations! Oz, if you can't suspend belief, this might not be the movie for you either! ;) ;D

And to think that I justifed buying the Center Ice Package with "I will be watching so much hockey, I won't have time for movies!"  ;D

I don't know why, probably for old time's sake, but last night I watched "The Graduate". Got all nostalgic watching the cars, fashions, furniture, etc. from the late 60's. The highlight though, was about halfway through, Dustin Hoffman is riding a bus, and out the window you see the bus go by this big, long Hamm's truck, so you see the words scroll by through the bus window. That was cool. 8)

I am glad you didn't say national champ.  This system is so full of holes they could just as well go back to the old system, awarding berths to conferences.

Well, I'm not a completely rigid humbug (although my wife says I'm becoming one and am likely to age into an unbearably grumpy old man).  I can suspend disbelief 'till the cows come home (like I'm suspending my disbelief now on the consequences of all the work I'm putting off to dink around here).  What I have a problem with is letting sleeping dogs lie.  Once I bite onto something, it seems I can never let go.  So here we go...  Mega geek alert.

A good creature/sci-fi/fantasy movie can only require one suspension of disbelief, not because that's all I'm good for, but because when there is more than one the audience continually is thinking "that can't be real" rather than just enjoying the movie.

A superb example of good suspension is the original Star Wars trilogy.  The viewer is greeted with 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...' in the first second of the movie.  Once you accept that, then all is fair game (laser swords, mystic powers, whatever).  The only consistencies with our actual lives are the human conditions that we can never escape regardless (frailties like jealousy, or the sexual tension between men and women).  Hence, we can identify with the characters while credibly dismissing all the sci-fi stuff.  Proper suspension.

An example of poor suspension is the second Star Wars series, particularly the first movie (the third was pretty good again as Lucas got blasted for the poor quality of the first two).  As one example, we get presented with a 'real' scientific reason for the existence of the Force.  Why bother?  We already accepted it's existence and know it's bull-pucky.  Creating a reason for it jams our disbelief in our face, decreasing the credibility of the story, which is actually a human saga, not a technical one.  There are more examples, but I'm sure your collective patience is running thin.

So, potentially I was poisoned by just finishing the 28 movies on rental before I saw Legend.  And I really got hooked on those.

I figure the world needs more grumpy old men, anyway.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport is pretty close to home for Johnnies fans...
and to think Pep was seriously considering flying into that airport to catch the St. John's-Marietta season opener and perhaps might have used one of those airport "johns."

Pep plans to avoid such johns or else keep his feet together.

+K to Pep's Johnnie friends

I would have picked OSU pregame as well, but now that I see the refs have been paid off by the home team, I'm starting to wonder if OSU has a chance in an 17 vs 11 game!
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

KR love what you were thinking but it did not work out.  I will +k you just for the effort to support the midwest.

The airport is much closer to St. Thomas than St. John's, and after seeing the way a couple UST lads utilized the Stiftungs-potty I think you're much more likely to encounter a tappin' Tommie.

Willy Wonka

I haven't kept up with this board as much as normal due to that other sport that draws my attention, but I thought this might create some conversation over here if it hasn't been posted yet.

This is the lead to a story printed in the Fargo Forum in late December.

"MOORHEAD -- A Concordia College janitor fired from his job today has been arrested by Moorhead police after female basketball players reported a camcorder set up in a locker room. Steven James Sopko, 31, 306 1st Ave. SW., Dilworth, Minn., was taken into custody late this afternoon."

A search of the house found roughly 100 tapes and 7 camcorders. And the dude is currently free on bail. Hide the women and children next time you head up that way.

Someone else (VOJ?) posted a story on the hoops board that ran in today's Forum where is says this same dude was hired despite a criminal track record of stealing keys he shouldn't have had while at NDSU. Oh, and he got the idea of videotaping chicks showering after practice "from a porn site", according to the police report.

Has anyone even seen TDT's actual birth certificate? I wonder if "Sopko" is his real last name. It would explain how he continues to live the lavish lifestyle down in the Sunshine state despite no apparent income...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

After watching last evening's Allstate Bowl and LSU's demolition on Ohio State, I decided to do a little research regarding this year's National Champions.  This year's champions (listed below) may be the first group in history not to have an undefeated team amoung them.  It was also not the year to be rated/ranked/seeded #1 heading into the playoffs/bowls.

DI/FBS- LSU (2)  12-2
DIAA/FCS- App State (5) 13-2
DII- Valdosta State (8 ) 13-1
DIII- UWW (2) 14-1

And DIII Football is still better than the other three + NAIA put together.  :P
