I believe that you're wrong stanbob. The Toomer push off was when they were going toward the goal line to screen left. The only interception was in the red zone at the right side of the TV screen. I know I'm getting "Oldtimers" but I believe I'm right about this one.

My memory is that the Giants were heading screen right when Toomer caught the pass in question (of course, he caught 6, so maybe we're thinking of different plays).  If I'm right, it was the first NY possession in the second quarter and did indeed end in an INT.

I know Amani's dad - good guy.  [Well known fact - Amani went to Michigan.  Less well known fact - his dad went to Ohio State.]

Watch out for Jiffy Lube.

That happened in Southern California.  I'm sure nothing like that would take place in Minnesota. :o :-[ :P

For your viewing pleasure here is a video from YouTube that tmerton sent me earlier today.  It's a number of clips of planes landing (and some only trying) at Wellington Airport in NZ.

Wellington gets some vicious cross winds, sometimes from the left and sometimes from the right.  It's an amazing thing to watch these jumbos coming in at 20 degree angles and the pilot whipping the plan around at the last second so the jet lands straight.  Particularly scary is when the turbulence is so bad that the plane is bouncing everywhere and the pilot pulls out when this big jet is only feet from touching down.  I was telling tmerts that my first trip to Wellington might be in one of these highlights with a Qantas jet.

Happy viewing, and if you are prone to being scared of flying then avoid Wellington (among a hundred and one other reasons to avoid NZ in general... :o ).

I saw a game earlier this season where the same 12 man on the field call was made after a challenge flag was thrown. Can't remember the game, but it was  in the past month or two, so it has precident. Maybe it made up for the non call on Amani Toomer's push off - to the face mask no  less - that wasn't called on the drive that resulted in the Giants field goal, or the possible pass interference that wasn't called on a hit prior to the ball reaching Welker late in the game. No slo-mo replay, but I thought that's what I saw. I thought that the referees were loathe to call any holding on the Giants O Line throughout the game. I saw some pretty egregious instances in my mind. I am glad that, once again the "experts" are made to look foolish. I remember about two short months ago, Eli was crap, and didn't have what it takes. Now, they'll probably be saying that Brady "can't win the big one." They're so clueless.

By the way, I am going to side with Ritz on the Coughlin comment. Belichek is a guy who must feel like I do about sports reporters. They are idiots, and he doesn't suffer fools well. I like that. They are then pissed at him, so they say he's arrogant, as if that's the worst thing you can say about someone. They don't like him because he treats them as the fools they are, so they try to portray him in the worst light. It's the same as in other "news" you read in most publications.

The game was the Vikings-Redskins game. The Vikings recovered a fumble, but Washington challenged that they had 12 men on the field. They did, and the Redskins were given the ball back. It was actually a crucial part of the game as well and pretty much sealed the Vikings' fate. Or maybe I'm not remembering it correctly since I am a former and still occasional sports reporter, so I might be foolishly remembering.    ::)

Come on, Retagent, I know you like blaming the media (re: the evil liberal media) for a lot of things, but you're really stretching here and that whole paragraph comes off as a bit absurd. I would like to see exactly how many publications have really labeled Belichick "arrogant." I'm pretty sure most stories I read about him are a bit more nuanced than that. And Cleveland fans have a much worse opinion about Belichick than any jaded sports reporter would ever have.

Growing up 70 miles from Cleveland, I can testify to this fact and the fact that the only Football personality hated more in Cleveland than Bellicheat is Art Modell.

True story:
When I was 13 during the 1995 season, the year Favre led the Packers to the NFC Championship for the 1st time, my mom bought my dad and I tickets to the Packers-Browns game in Cleveland. A week or so before the game, Modell announced he was moving the Browns to Baltimore.

Browns fans everywhere were crushed, especially the Blue Collar types that constituted 80%+ of the diehard Browns fans. Local radio stations encouraged fans to mail in their remaining season tickets, Browns jackets, etc for a mass burning.

When we arrived at the stadium roughly 50% of the fans were wearing Packers jackets and jerseys. Over a dozen times, chants of "Modell Sucks" rang through the stands. Right before kick-off a fan across the field from us in the upper deck unfurled 2 bed sheets taped together with a large "man-member" on it with "Modell" spray-painted on the man-member. This sign lasted 10 minutes before security removed it... very slowly.

Another fan somehow got above the Owners' suite and hung a sign over the window of the Owners' suite with a very large Target and the phrase "The Coward Sits Here." Referencing the fact Modell did not come to another home game after the announcement, mainly due to the dozens of death threats.

As the game was winding down, the Packers were winning 31-20. In the endzone in front of the Dog Pound, a large pile of Browns jerseys and Browns starter jackets was growing larger. Someone briefly lit it on fire and security put it out.

As we were leaving having spent a great father-son bonding day watching our Packers win, we were walking out of the stadium talking about the game when a 300+ lb guy in a white t-shirt with "Modell Sucks" painted on it walks by carrying a 7 foot section of stands with 3 seats on it! As he was walking toward the exit, the seat-stealer sees a security guard looking right at him and he makes a sharp turn towards another exit hitting a guy in the head with one of the support legs. The security guard runs and catches the guy, shakes his hand and escorts him out the exit!

The 100 or so people in the immediate vicinity broke out into a rousing rendition of the "Modell Sucks" cheer. ;D

Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

OAS noted that he would be the interim football coach, but it appears that Mac has dropped the "interim" from his title:  Macalester names Tony Jennison new head football coach

Duff,
This Johnnie fan in western Colorado would like an ice fishing report from Minnesota.  ::)

All I can say is that I have been an observer of human nature for many years, and it is only natural for people to dislike those who make their job harder and make it more difficult for them to negotiate life's obstacles. We generally mirror the behavior of those we're dealing with. It's not an indictment, just an observation.

I haven't been out in a while.  I just can't seem to motivate myself to go ice fishing this winter.  Another month and there will be enough open water around here to satiate me.

Sure, St. John's has John Gagliardi, Clemens Stadium, the Pine Curtain, and the MIAC and National championships, but they don't have a nationally reknowned, vaguely phallic mascot!
