Johnny Red,

Stiftungsfestivities must go on the road this week.  I will be there bright and early on Saturday morning (7-8am).  Looking forward to a great contest.  Anyone have a weather forecast for next weekend?

A brief look into Perkins stadium (via UWW website) reveals everything you never wanted to know about the place except what kind of playing surface. Does someone know for certain turf or grass? The Cobbs game at the Jake is what I'm hoping can be avoided. If the SJU-UWW game ends and you can still make out the numbers on the players jerseys, SJU fans will like the final score.

That's something we have on our site.

Pat, I see now you have the playing surface listed on the team pages.  Yet another example of why this site is a D3 football fans dream come true. Thanks.

I have heard that someone is waking him up every hour...during the game I know he had a severe stinger and an acute concussion.

Thankfully that is all. It was a harrowing event on the sidelines, I can only imagine how it was on the Monmouth bench or in the stands.

He is definitely in my prayers. May his recovery be easy and swift.

TRU-
Getting to your earlier question...I think every team in the MIAC could have beaten Monmouth...the only team I might consider losing is Carleton..but I have my doubts!

Bring on UWW and Linfield

Mighty ,  you're dreaming if you think you get a shot at ww this year?

desert, first of all, Mighty Royal is a Bethel boy.  Second, he's just cheering on the MIAC right now, so he's cheering for SJU and CC this week.

There is an old adage that says "If you do not learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it." So that you may all learn from history, I will present it here in the form of acumulative season stats through the first round of the playoffs. The number following any average is the NCAA ranking as of the end of the regular season. No number indicates a ranking not in the top 35. These are from the two schools respective web sites and the NCAA web site. Thanks to Kelly bird SID at Linfield and Jim Cella SID Concordia-Moorhead

Passing:
Linfield Offense 368.3 ypg  #5  Cobber Defense  202.9 ypg
Cobber Offense  116.3 ypg     Linfield Defense  234.6 ypg
Linfield has only given up 3 sacks all season.
The only teams that were able to put up relatively big numbers on the Cats were Oxy #12 and Whitworth #18 in the nation in passing.

Running:
Linfield Offense  128.9 ypg            Cobber Defense 75.3 ypg  #11
Cobber Offense 311.8 ypg  #5   Linfield Defense 83.2 ypg  #8
UPS was #13 and Willamette #18 and were held well below their season averages by the Cat D.

Scoring:
Linfield Offense 50.9 ppg  #1   Cobber Defense 15.9 ppg  #34
Cobber Offense 33.6 ppg          Linfield Defense 14.3 ppg  #14
The starting defense has given up more than one TD only twice this year, to Whitworth and Oxy. Oxy was #14 and Whitworth #19 in scoring. See also passing stats above.

Total Offense vs Total Defense:
Linfield Offense 497.2 ypg #15     Cobber Defense 278.2 ypg  #35
Cobber Offense 428.1 ypg  #34 Linfield Defense 317.8 ypg
Oxy was #10, Whitworth was #14, and PLU was #21 In total offense. They got some yardage, but alas not enough scoring

Turnover Margin:
Linfield +22  #1   Cobbers +5

Linfield's tremendous defense, the Cobbers weak passing game, travel over across half the country on a holiday weekend and the Catdome faithful will lead to a Wildcat win and berth in the quarterfinals .

Good Luck to Wooderson & the Albanians as they take on Becker for the 3A title next Friday
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Sure, LC is a big favorite, surprise, but statistics aren't history and they are so easily spinnable, especially in a division as broad as D3. As a fan of ``old adages'' (doesn't it have to be old to be an adage? :)), here are a couple more:

"There are three types of lies - lies, damn lies, and statistics." - Variously attributed to Benjamin Disraeli, Alfred Marshall, Mark Twain and many other dead people.

"Statistics are for losers" -- often attributed to Johnny Unitas. among others.

You can really pick and choose from the stats in d3. For example, of the NCAA regular season leaders in total offense, only one is alive in the playoffs. And the No. 2 guy in passing efficiency had a 20-for-30, no pick game against SJU yesterday -- and his team was No. 3 in scoring offense -- and we all know how that turned out.

Here's a good link, tho.

Am I right in assuming that injured players can be replaced on the Playoff roster. Are the teams limited to a certain list of individual players or just the number who can be suited up for any given game?

OXY Oswald

Good Night Cobbers.

Congrats on a good season, but it all ends next week in McMinnville.  The 'Cats are better than advertised.  Their offense is too much for any D to handle and their defense is a noticable improvement from last year.

Enjoy your trip, the weather was perfect for the OXY game.

Go Tigers!

Yes, injured players can be replaced on the playoff roster...
if not teams could be very depleted by the time they reach the Stagg Bowl.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.
