I'm impressed that the top 3 are all from the West but I guess I shouldn't be. The West is the Best!

When is the last time Mount Union was rated as low as 6th?

2, 3 and 4 are really in a tie for 2nd, spread is only 5 points.

How does SJU jump to 3 (tied for 2nd  8) ) and Concordia fall from 11 to 12 after a convincing win over Bethel?

Since 2003 (what we have in the database on the server) they were 3 for a decent portion of last season but never lower. Pat would know better as to thier lowest ranking prior to this week.

I was wondering the same thing but I think it's because Ohio Northern moved into the top 11

Well, I wouldn't care about what the other polls might have ever said but I don't think the coaches' poll has ever had MUC lower than 2, not even this season.

There is concern about Rowan because its starting quarterback is out with a broken wrist and is not going to be available until about Week 13.

File this under ``any D3 coverage is good coverage, even if it's about a Tommie'' :)

Good question about Concordia, I can see ONU leaping them since they beat MUC(k), but North Central barely beat a team that was 5-1 (with a loss to Wheaton now also 5-2)... doesn't seem that impressive to me.

Also, how much longer does St. olaf have to go undefeated to get into the top 25 especially when a 3-3 team like UW Lax is there...

*addendum: St. Olaf's unbeaten streak is at its pinnacle and will not climb any further as we all know, however I think its a valid point.

If Olaf loses but plays SJU tough do they get into the top 25?

Kilted Rat

It would be kind of funny if a lose brought them into the top 25 after all their wins didn't!

Is anyone else old enough to remember "Big Dave" Hasselhoff as "Snapper" on The Young and The Restless?

The quote about Gearman speaking of himself in the third person.  It's my guess that there might have been some kind of bet or dare, with a prize going to the first person who could get a quote talking about themselves in the third person into print. Things like that do happen in college you know ;) ;)

I don't think so. If the game ends up being 21-20 in SJU's favor and St Olaf makes it into the Top 25, great. It's their first real opponent all year. Someone said something about UW-LAX: They started their year off with a loss to SDSU, a game that no one thought they would win and they put up a fight. WW, EC and LAX are the strongest teams in the WIAC (I've seen EC, LAX, SP, and RF play... of those 4 EC and LAX are the best but I have only seen half the teams play this year) and for LAX to lose the two games to EC and WW is not something that should automatically DQ them from consideration.

I still don't think its right for a team with 3 losses (regardless if they came to Linfield, SJU, and MUC(k)) to be ranked ahead of a team that hasn't lost but has played moderately decent opponents in a solid conference.

I saw them play yesterday. 1) They ran the score up. You have a 15-point lead at the start of the half there is no need to put another 27 on the board. 2) They haven't played anyone this year that could have knocked them off if they tried.

Think of this in a Division I-A capacity for a moment (and this is one of Keith's columns earlier in the season I believe): If D3football.com were to do the same percentage coverage in their Top teams poll as Division I-A it would be the Top 13. Can you narrow the 42 teams receiving votes for the D3football.com Top 25 poll down to 13? Can you do it without leaving out teams that should be considered?

Also, St Olaf got almost enough votes to make into the Top 25 (within 25 points of 25), to say that they are not being considered isn't true.

While we're on the subject, I have a DIII rankings conspiracy theory.

Pat is keeping Concordia out of the top 10 so that the West only has 4 and not 5 of the top 10 teams.

This makes the playoffs seem more interesting as the way it sits now, the regional representation in the top 10 break down as follows:

West: 4 teams Linfield, SJU, UWW, and Oxy
East:  2 Rowan, Delaware Valley
North: 1 MUC(k)
South: 3 Trinity, UMHB, and Hardin Simmons.

This creates a semi-illusion of parity amongst the West and the South.

I would argue that Concordia, losing to SJU on a last minute play deserves to be ranked above Hardin Simmons who got worked by a team that lost to Howard Payne.

Hmmm. what's more impressive... losing to a team that is undefeated or losing to a team that lost to a 4-3 team.....

* I know I have MIAC blinders on, but at least I have some semblence of stats to back it up!
