Whoa Nelly

As a former Cobb who is now nothing more than popcorn - I offer my 2 cents

It sounds as if the only thing Concordia has over Linfield is modesty.  Linfield is packed with talent and Concordia will have to play a great game to stay in it.

Cord's QB was not the MVP of the MIAC for his arm - he was the MVP because he is a playmaker & leader.  Stats and blow-out victories can't be applied to them.  Their offense is unique and not one that will blow teams out of the water...more methodical than quick scoring.  Their defense is stiff and fast but Linfield will be able to throw the ball on them.

Same as I said Johnnie/Cobber week pertains to this coming Saturday - if Cord's offense can put themselves into 2nd and 6, 3rd and 2 type situations I like the thought of them eating up clock and leaving Brett Elliot on the sideline to make sure his eye black is straight and hair looks good.  If Linfield can force the Cobbs into many 3 and outs than it may be a MonkeyStompTM or more.

Linfield fans - give me feedback on your conference.  Does any team pride themselves on running the ball like Cord?  I've heard you are for the most part stiff against the run but know little about your competition all year.  I'm guessing Concordia's buffet busters up front pose a bigger threat than any OL out west but I know little about the style of play in your conferece.

In my estimation, for Concordia to win the game, Linfield will have to make some passing mistakes early so as to stop their own drives and hence not to run up a big lead.  Then and only then will the Cobbs have a chance to grind it past the 'Cats, and still will require at least two turnovers to do it.  Stopping the pass will be critical.  Concordia did a good job of it against SJU (save one play), so they can do it.  These early stops may allow Concordia's D-line to pressure Elliott a bit more as the game rolls on.

Will the 'Cats employ a STO 5-yards-are-fun strategy, or will they mix it up?  If they do the former, they'll succeed, but if not, Concordia may hang with them.

Offensively, Concordia will get their 3-4 yards a carry.  Do that 3 times in a row and it's first down. Repeat until endzone.  But I echo Whoa Nelly- If the Cobbs plan to outlast the 'Cats, they have a chance-- if they try to finesse them, it'll be winter in Moorhead.

Desert cat - Are you a coach or something?? Whats with the film watching?
I'm sure Linfield has had some Cupcakes this year too.
Concordia may not blow out every opponent, but we win games.  And in the end thats all that matters. I've said before this will be a tough game for us, but I look forward to it.

Yes, we have had several cupcakes this year but we are now in a serious playoff mode and have met the challenge of the first game.  It will be a tough game for sure.  We've got the best team we've ever had at Linfield so we want to make the best of it.

As for Desert cat I do not know that he is a coach but I know he raised one.

BTW I believe last week was the first time Elliott ever played in the 4th quarter this year.

SUMMIT!!!!!

MR & Johnnies-

There is no reason to be planning a Dec 3 trip to Oregon. The trip will be to C-ville for the rematch of Cobber/Johnnie.

Yes, Linfield fans, we all know you are the defending champs complete with a D-I reject QB. You also paly a weak schedule, as not one team on your schedule before the playoffs would have finished higher than 4th in the MIAC (PLU has a great tradition, but tradition abnd $2.50 will get you a small cuppa at Starbucks). So knockign Cord for "cupcakes" is bogus.

Cobber D will do its job, frustrating the Great D-I wash-out. Schumacher will show you why he was MVP. Cobbers 24 LC  14

Meanwhile, SJU will continue its incredible offensive firepower to make the West an All-MIAC battle. SJU 35 UWW 13

You can probably write it for me, Dusty!

I have to take a hard look at the W(e)SUC(k)/WIAC champions before I can get too concerned about them.  But don't worry, I'm sure I'll be in my resident pessmist mood by the end of the week.

Any ideas about film sessions today for the Jays?  Will John rip them to pieces?  I really don't want John to pull a Glen Mason-- know that it's a big game and you need to win to make a major bowl, so your team goes to a neighboring state and is admittedly "unprepared mentally."

Just keep drinking the cool aid. You'll be just fine.
You can cancel your practice and take the rest of the week off. You've got it in the bag and we'll just accept you're going to destroy us ::) Aren't you being conservative with your prediction?  Are you sure you won't Monkey Stomp us? ::)

My favorite line from the game broadcast on Saturday, made about mid 2nd quarter I think:

Monday and already fur is flying....gotta love playoff time :)

Cat fans: let's face it, both the Cobbs and the Cats have played some cupcakes this year. So what, they have both risen above and have shown that they are very good teams.

I agree with earlier posts that the Cobbers need to get inot 2nd and 6 and 3rd and short situations in order for hte offense to be successful, and that the defense needs to play like it did vs. SJU. Meaning that we give up the short stuff, make good tackles, and then stiffen up in the redzone.

One thing that came to mind is hte fact that many of these Cobbers have been on a west coast trip before.  MAny of the Seniors and Juniors were traveling with the team to Menlo in 2003, so the whole idea of a flight should not produce wide eyes.

I think Concordia could be in for a long game, but I also think this will be Linfield's biggest test this year.  The Cobber defense, as has been said, is tough, very tough.  They move very well.  Their offense is good, but unfotunately, I don't think good enough to hang with Linfield.  I know that they'll move the ball, but with the explosiveness that Linfield has, I don't foresee them keeping up.

But, anything can happen, and that is why the games are played.  I'll be very interested in the outcome.

Go Johnnies.

Pot, meet kettle. Oh wait, Linfield fans are already predicting Monkey Stomps. What's the line now? 35?

You are absolutely right Duff Man.  This will be by far our toughest game.

Cats want the Johnnies so bad they are on our board a week early.

J Esq: SJU has to play a perfect game to hang with the Warhawks??  Can we get the half-empty speel over with?

fins: Is the Pace Arrow making the journey to Whitewater?  Don't disappoint me, you already missed the Tommie game for "hunting" reasons.
