OK, One more - Ypsi - I have respect for you, and therefore, your opinions, because it appears that you believe that we all here, no matter what our outlook is, semm to want what is best for most people. If this was always the case, I think we could actually have some conversions. Too often, in these discussions, there seems to be a tendency to accuse those on the "other side" of being evil or having nefarious or self-interested motives.

Klop - Good post on the state of education - +k from me.

I was at a board on the Washington Post Sports section regarding the Caps loss to the Flyers. They're worse than we are. One loss and it's all over to some weak a$$ "fans." I guess they forgot that the Caps hadn't lost in about three weeks, and had won 12 of their last 13 games, had looked pitiful against the Blackhawks in that only loss, but came back strong. Stiff upper lips must be hard to come by.

Subtle or smart. Those are two things I've never been accused of. Dumbass, on the other hand, countless times.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

All;

It's possible I'm not reading the pulse right, but regardless I would like to apologize to the long term denizens of the MIACPP for helping to stir up and contributing to this off-topic hornet's nest.  Here's part of a mail I sent to someone who asked why I was stopping, if you care to read it:

In the end I changed my mind about the wisdom of continuing the thread because I didn't think that UMAC comment was true, but we were well on the way to making it so, and in just a couple days.

The MIAC PP is the strongest PP board by a country mile and the UMAC comment reminded me that it was done without all the political debating.  It's done because a bunch of guys (and a couple gals) get together with a fun loving (and admittedly often juvenile) attitude toward killing some time and BS'ing.  We almost never post about football, instead we post about a lot of crap and still have a pretty good time.

JFlash, a goodly part of the soul of the board, pointed out that it was all a lot of hot gas getting shot around for our personal (potentially selfish?) gratification - and at the expense of those who didn't like it.  And then I looked at the board and saw those PP'ers that normally get 5 or 6 posts in a day had gone silent.  I noticed them logging in to have a look and then they went away without comment.  And that is the beginning of turning the MIAC board into the UMAC board.

I figure I like what the board does on it's normal days too much to threaten that with a little political debating, even if it is pretty civilized.  If PC creates another board for us to do this raging debating on, then I'm back in the game, but I don't think it is wise to do it where we were.

It looks like it was a good time to be out of town and unable to read or post.  And Napa was beautiful. 8)

It does make me wonder if the persons complaining to PC about off-topic discussions are also the ones smiting everyone. Talk about passive aggressive! I will admit that I have had little interest in contributing to the healthcare discussion, but I did skim over what everyone wrote. And you know what, if a subject comes up that I am not interested in, I reserve the right to NOT READ THE POSTS ON THAT TOPIC!! What a novel idea! I so smart! ::) I resent the fact that now I feel like I can't post anything not directly D3 football related. In my opinion, THAT is the fastest way to kill off a board! :(

+k Bennie. I've always thought people should post whatever they want, within some kind of reason. That includes bitching about posts too. I started out reading all the political posts, till the name calling started, then just skipped over them. I do enjoy it when people seem to really get mad at each other. Reminds me of home.

I sure hope your health care discussion got some stuff resolved--I ate 9 hot dogs at Kauffman Stadium Friday night and the stomach ache hasn't gone away yet.

WHY YOU NEVER QUESTION A DRUNK

I was shopping at the local supermarket where I selected:

A half-gallon of 2% milk,
A carton of eggs,
A quart of orange juice,
A head of romaine lettuce,
A 2 lb. can of coffee, and
A 1 lb. package of bacon.

As I was unloading my items on the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk
standing behind me watched as I placed the items in front of the cashier.

While the cashier was ringing up the purchases, the drunk calmly stated,
' You must be single.'

I was a bit startled by this proclamation, but I was intrigued by the
derelict's intuition, since I was indeed single I looked at the six items on
the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about my selections that could
have tipped off the drunk to my marital status.

Curiosity getting the better of me, I said: 'Well, you know what,
you're absolutely right. But how on earth did you know that?'

The drunk replied, 'Cause you're ugly.'

I don't normally post much about hockey but it was fun watching the Frozen Four over the weekend, including a few MN kids like Mark Van Guilder and Ryan Thang.  So a little hockey celebration music is in order - here and here.  [This may set back music or hockey - or both.]

BTW, do they ever televise any of the D3 games?

Fox College Sports will have some D3 games on. Probably at 3am.  :P

The last Stout game that was on was counter programmed against the Super Bowl.  >:(

Anyway, my short vacation from youth hockey is over as son of BDB starts spring camp tonight over in Hudson. That was a solid 3 weeks off.
