Mike Fox Sr., chairman of San Jose-based beer distributor M.E. Fox & Co., said Beall's heart is in the right place. "He's very dedicated in areas of health," Fox said. "But a tax of that nature is far too grievous. The beer industry produces so much for the economy. He won't get to first base with that." Dan Gordon, co-founder of Gordon Biersch Brewing Co., calculated that the tax on a barrel of beer would go from $6.40 to $89. "We would all be looking for jobs," he said.

In response to this, I just purchased 30 cases of my favorite beers.

No doubt it's 30 cases of this...

Dutch - I am here to give you the good news that Gumbel retired from his broadcasting gig at NFL Network. I heard it yesterday on PTI (which is filmed at the building I worked in in DC). Both Kornheiser and Wilbon sang his praises. I guess they never watched him.

My teams played as badly as I did tonight. The Caps need to give the Flyers some of their own medicine, except they seemed to get called for goalie interference when they brush Biron, while Briere can jump on Huet and ride him like a circus horse. The Penalty Shot call was also weak. Still, the Caps need to get it together. I switched to the Wild, saw the score and turned that off too. Oh! We won despite my pathetic performance.

As a fan of the Sabres, I know Briere's tactics (and dives)... If I know him well enough, I think he shall disappear from being any use to the flyers anytime now here in the playoffs.

It's a beautiful new day. My annual 2 week period of worrying, whining, and bitching about taxes is officially over for another year. Today is the yearly "day after taxes party". The guest list is short, me, as I hit my favorite watering holes and drink till I can't wiggle then call Mrs. Flash to come and pick me up.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Sooch's column yesterday about the demise of Northwest Airlines, gives a little nod to Hamm's beer.  8)

everything, especially here, in Minnesota, where we had a peculiar
inclination to think of those one things as ours, an ability to identify with only our dreamy brands and then experience an equally unique sadness at their end — Dayton's, Hamm's, Northwest Airlines.   :'(

Yeah Spam, it helped us win WWII, and is still keeping American military personnel going.

How about them Sharks!! I actually like both teams, but I can't stand Mike Keenan. It wouldn't break my heart to see the Sharks eliminate him...and unfortunately, that would mean the Flames have to go too. :'(

SPAM is also quite popular in Hawaii. We have a number of Hawaiian restaurants out here and I have been relieved to see that SPAM is NOT on the menu...macaroni salad is though. :-\

Spam is definitely still going strong. If you want to really impress the kiddies, treat them to a breakfast of Spam McMuffins.

You need english muffins, toasted and buttered. Slice Spam and fry it up. Whip up some eggs and scramble them flat, like McDonald's does, so you can fold it up so it looks like a fluffy yellow pillow case on the muffin. Assemble the egg, Spam and top with an orange Kraft floor tile (called "cheese" in most states, except Wisconsin where it's illegal to call something like that "cheese").

You'll be a shoe-in for Father-of-the-Year, and a hero to all your kids' friends.

That Spamburger in your signature is making me hungry, fins.

I still think the best Spam is the plain Spam sandwich.  Fry it up, spread some mayonnaise, only white bread.  Delicious.

(no need to post Monty Python's 'Spam, Spam, Spam, and Spam' sketch again, is there?)

JVF, there must be many others out there who celebrate "The Day After" in the same way you do.  When I got to work today, the parking lot was only half as full as normal, with no other explanation of where everyone is. ;D

When we really wanted to treat ourselves on our sailing trips, for cocktail hour we'd fry up some Spam, open up a can of chunk pineapple, a jar of cherries, then skewer a hunk of each on a toothpick and Voila,...Spam Hawaiian.
