BDB- I see your favorite driver finally got a win.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Well, the economy is starting to slow a bit in Oz.  The newishly elected Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, is proposing huge tax hikes to address the slowing economy.  Particularly on retirement savings.  Seems he doesn't think the economy is slowing fast enough, I guess.

So he hasn't learned the truth about taxation and economies.  If you want more tax revenue, you drop the tax rate, on capital gains, on corporations, on wages, on savings, everything.  The former Warsaw Pact nations are where you see the flat taxes with rates of 18-23%.

That being said, he is bringing in Cate Blanchett to do the sales job on the idea.  Since a Hollywood movie star thinks it's a good idea, I suppose I better get on board.  She thinks that the Oz taxpayer should finance the movie industry here.  How can that be wrong?

I gotta say, though.  It makes me wish I was famous.  I think the Aussie taxpayer should finance my livelihood as well.  And if I'm unsuccessful doing it, then the obvious answer is for them to finance it more, no?

Hell, we only pay 48.7% tax here - there may be some more blood to squeeze from that stone.  But lest you think I exaggerate, it is true that 48.7% is the top margin tax rate.  The tax payer here doesn't hit that rate until they earn $52k/year.  You know.  Rich people.

The ignorance of the American electorate is appalling.  I strongly recommend Thomas Sowell's book Basic Economics.  Sowell is one of the persons who inspired former liberal Broadway playwright, David Mamet, to write an essay in the Village Voice, Why I Am No Longer a Brain-Dead Liberal.

(So what's with all the complaining you ask, when I normally sing the praises of Oz?  Well, it's a great place to live, but the friggin' taxes here are oppressive.  And we get great value for all that taxing... like government sponsored heroin shooting galleries and government departments to regulate the prostitution industry.  'Cause if prostitution is gonna happen and pimps are gonna make money, it may as well be government pimps, no?)
Have a good day, mate!  :)

'I read a wide range of points of view, I watch, I listen and I think, therefore I am" (an independent).  Addendum per Flash's comment below..."and I dumbass when I speak."

I watch, listen and think, but still don't understand, therefore I am a dumbass.

Right on, flash!

I stayed up late and consumed multiple Hamm's watching that race.

And flipping back and forth to the Wild game.  :-\

57- I'll eat my crow with a shot of Jack and some Hamm's chasers.  :-[

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TDT and Guy Bellair!!!!!!

May this birthday find you both hungover and waking up next to a beautiful 300lber of the gender of your choice.  :o

Here's a link to his last post for all posters to karmalize him in whatever direction they see fit

Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

+k BDB,
Jose Theodore :D
Burns didn't contain Foppa.
Foote & Sauer contained Gaborik.
The two teams played for 384 minutes 23 seconds in the playoffs pretty even except:
The Wild only had a lead for 4 minutes 31 seconds - case closed.  8)
The real deciding factor however  --  The Avs have better uniforms  ;D
The older the violin - the sweeter the music!

BDB

57- I'll just go with Theodore for the main reason.

The Wild outshot the Avs 40-17 in the last game at the X and lost.
That's unheard of in the hockey world.

Retangent- good for the Caps. I'm on that badwagon now.  ;)

No question - it's always goaltending when you get to the playoffs  :P

What??  no vegimite OZ.  I was introduced to that stuff last year,  I actually like it spread on toast.

Good ol' Vegemite.  JJR, you gotta have your daughter send you a tube for sampling at the Stiftungfestivities.  It's foul stuff, but spread thinly on toast with butter is a fantastic cure for hangovers.  It may have something to do with it being made from the left over yeast extract from beer brewing.  Gotta trust Australia to find a way to get the beer brewing business into kids from a young age.

(as an aside, check out the url above about the origins of yeast extract.  The World of Warcraft forums was the second link returned from my Google search.  They may be the only people who post more useless stuff than those of us here.)
