Where is SJU?

The interesting thing for me is how all the mapping programs (including the ironically named Hertz "Never Lost") locate Collegeville on the side of I-94 opposite from SJU, on the Old Collegeville Road.  It's a nice way to find the footbridge over the freeway but if there is one place in the area that Collegeville would not be, I think that's it.
As I understand it, back in the good ol' days, (pre-automobile) that's where the Collegeville train station was. Folks arriving by train would get off at Collegeville and
walk or horse ride it to St. John's. So the really old computers must still have it that way.

Is it shocking that these mapping technologies can't get you somewhere you want to go?  I love when mapquest leads me to an address that is 10 miles away from the actual address that I want to be at.
Heaven isn't too far away,
Closer to it every day

Are you suggesting that I'm using an old computer?  Why just the other day I was talking to Dr. Zarkov about the need to upgrade.

True to his word, he did.

BDB in action the past 3 days cleaning up various bodily fluids.
I thought that the cleaning concerned Danica Patrick on this week's cover of SI.  :D

snoop dawg

try using mapquest in LA....  what the hell does do they mean by a soft left?  The gps system in the car is much better.  I love hearing the voice try to correct me when I go off track.

It happens all the time, when folks from "the cities" are driving to my office (downtown St. Cloud), we get a phone call from them driving around out in Waite Park looking for the place mapquest directed them.

You are correct Fins.  Used to drive down there while I was in school.  Can't remember if there was much for buildings 40 years ago.  We should check with '57.  He probably took the train to school back then.

Absolutely true story about how MapQuest et. al. can get you where you do not want to be.
Two years ago, early April, I was staying at the Mt Peale Inn and Spa at the foot of Mt. Peale in the La Sal Mountains in SE Utah.  A guest of the inn was supposed to be there around 4:00.  At 7:00 she walked in and said her car was stuck in the snow about half way up the mountain.

She had MapQuested Mt. Peale and it gave her directions to get to the mountain instead of the Inn.  She was a marine on leave.  When she turned off the main highway onto a plowed gravel road she thought no big deal.  About three miles later when the plowed part stopped she thought wow this place is way out in the boonies.  The snow wasn't too deep at that point so she kept on going in her front wheel drive rental car.  About two miles into the unplowed road she hit drifts and finally got stuck.

Being the marine she was she just started walking back down the road.  Five miles later she got back to the main highway and right in front of her was a sign that said Mt Peale Inn and Spa 2 miles.  So she walked a total of 7 miles and later on we all drove up the mountain and pulled her car out.

Ya gotta be careful with all the newfangled technology.

Also did anyone ever see the Office one where Michael insisted on following his GPS into the lake?

snoop dawg

But OB it does........except it is usually more confused than mapquest. :o

It wouldn't be MIAC PP if we didn't tie all of this GPS talk back to fishing...

My uncle/fishing outfitter picked up a Lowrance LCX-113C HD Sonar/GPS unit.  The thing is ridiculous--10.5 inch screen, full color display, just sick.  The best was the one foot contour chip he got for Minnesota and Lake of the Woods.  It was surprisingly accurate for Mille Lacs; I'll be interested to see how it works on LOTW this summer.

Kinda crazy that a GPS can't find St. John's, but has no trouble finding a 26-foot-to-28-foot break on a mud flat on Mille Lacs.

Looks like a 4th place finish for SJU in golf. 4 bogeys on 18 and 3 bogeys on 17.

Thanks Oz, for the link.

Maybe if they stocked the Sag with more fish.....

TC,

That 113HD is the bomb!  I drool over them everytime I'm near one.  The LOTW chip is pretty nice, too.  We had one when I was up there last month and it was great.  Of course, we were looking at it on a 520c, which only has a 5 inch screen, but it's very detailed.  Keeps you away from stumps in the river :)

Duff ...the GPS on my boat is "da bomb".  It has an auto pilot interfaced with it.  I can be in Ventura and point the cursor to the buoy in the Catalina marina, press enter, press auto pilot and away it goes.  All I have to do is stay awake and make sure it doesn't run into another boat in my path.

The yellow tail are coming!  Just in case the gay fishermen wanted to know. ;)
