ruggerrat,

I was at both Linfield-St. John's games in 2002 and 2003.    In both games, Linfield made a mistake that led to a St. John's touchdown, which was the difference.

St. John's was the better team, but it was VERY close both times.    The scores indicate that Linfield gave the Johnnies the toughest game in the 2003 playoffs.

The 2004 and 2005 Wildcats are both better (slightly)  than 2002 and 2003 versions.     (So far, at least.)

Game Saturday should be a good one.       I am looking forward to it.

GO CATS, GO!

George

thanks George.... i'd karmalize ya, if i could, loooks like we both got a looong way to go. but i do appreciate the feedback.  here's to a good game this weekend, for us both!

GT-everytime you type on here you lose Karma, but it's not like you are saying anything bad.  I think it's cuz you are a Cat fan. Sorry bout that.  Also, one question for Cat fans, why do you call your stadium "The Catdome" when it's outside??  Just a thought.

Johnny fans how are the injuries going to affect them this weekend against UWW?  Gearman?  Good?  Are they playing?

Kiltedrat,

Congratulations on your 2000th  post.  You are one of the great guys that make this board so much fun.  With medical school and all is there any chance you'll be able to come out and tailgate with us at the Catdome on Dec. 3rd if all goes well for all of us?

BS and arrogance seeks it's own level so maybe that's why us Cat and Johnnie fans seem to connect pretty well together on this board despite all the invective thown back and forth.  Based on this board The MIAC and Johnnies have even more hardcore fans than the Wildcats and the NWC do.  You guys are amazing when I look at your posting #s.

How did we ever survive football season without a message board back in the old days?

this to any cobbs making the trip out west

If any of you are spending an evening in Montana and need a place to crash or a beer to enjoy let me know via private email.  Not many d-3 fans here in bozeman, it is always nice to meet a few football fans.

cobbernation,
I just experienced my first cat-griz game this week, truly a great football experience.  Great football atmosphere similar to the d-3 experience.

Good luck to the cobbs and johnnies this weekend.  I need to cheer on the home state now that the IIAC is out of the playoffs.

Probably not for financial and time management reasons. I'd love to make it out, but between the Mrs's grad school loans and my minimal pay stipend from the Navy, money is tight in the rat household.

If the game was in Collegeville, I could hope to make it, but as is... it's looking as good as L&C's chances of making the Stagg Bowl next year... :-\

Someday soon I will have money to afford such trips... until then, an occassional night out with buddies and a trip to the sporting goods store is as close as this rat can hope to come!

Thank the big guy upstairs for the internet! Without listening in on-line, I'd go nuts and drive Mrs. KR nuts as well with constant phone updates.

If someone at the SJU-WW game and someone at the CC-Cats game wanted to give me voicemail updates at least until the wedding of the day is over, I'd be most appreciative!

I apologize for any typo's/spelling errors. I had 3 tests today and 16 oz taps were $1.50 at the bar tonight!
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

I locked it shortly after it went up. There weren't too many tallies.

Mr.Shoes

Who'd have thunk it? The Vikes won. Wow. Now, the state of MN is all lined up to go 2-0 vs. the state of WI this week. HOT DAMN.

KR, great post. My only regret is that my year-and-a-half hiatus from PP meant that I missed out on far too many kilted posts. D'oh.

Oh, I almost forgot. We TiVo'd the Spotlight show on John to watch after MNF. That was a lot of fun. I can truly say that I was exceedingly fortunate to play for him for a year and watch him coach for seven (and counting!). I didn't go to SJU [only] for the football, but it's definitely one reason I'm glad I didn't go anywhere else. John's a once-in-a-lifetime coach and person.

Here's a piece of pointless, yet interesting, information: my mother's father was also born in Trinidad, CO and upon doing a little investigating, we learned that his family and John's family knew [of] each other. A year or two ago my folks were visiting my brother and I at SJU and John was eating in the Reef at the same time we were. Mom went up to John, said hi, and asked if he recognized her maiden name. He did and they chatted a little bit about Trinidad and their little slice of shared history. That was really awesome to watch. Great guy, that John. :)
Nice day, huh?

While killing some time until the Vikings replay comes on ESPN, I started to play around with some numbers from the NCAA statistics site.  I was thinking about the PGA and how they have an overall skills ranking compiled by adding up a number of the key stats that they track.  I thought it might prove interesting to see what a DIII overall skills ranking would look like, and I think it has.

I have compiled a stats summary for UWWW, SJU, LIN, CON and I threw in MUC, MHB and Delaware for good measure - figuring that the West shouldn't completely discount the other regions.  That may have been a wise choice.  The index is simply the sum of the team states from ncaa.org.

Statistic                  UWWW     SJU     LIN     CON     MUC    MHBU    DEL
Total Offense              6           20      15       35        1         33        8
Total Defense             58         4        51       35        2         17        63
Rushing Offense         25         87      152     5          23       11        19
Rushing Defense        50         12      8         11        10        7         80
Passing Offense          20         22      5         202      11       168      34
Pass Efficiency Def      31         5        67       71        3        43         83
Scoring Offense          11         6        1         41        5        13         24
Scoring Defense         17         8        14       34        2         5          50
Turnover Margin         27        27       1        78         65      46        148
Team Kickoff Ret        212      39        61      199      78       47       203
Team Punt Ret           29        71       63       104      26       2         146
Team Net Punting      14        118     109      64       119      2        149
Total Ranking             500      419     547      879     345      394    1007

So some interesting things to note:

* SJU is obviously King of the West.  LIN for all their talk about weapons from Planet Neo and everywhere else has a trailing index.  Run attack looks pretty weak.

* Delaware may be seeded number one in the East, but it looks like we will just be thanking them for playing and recommending they don't let the door hit them on the way out when everything is said and done.

* MUC and MBHU must be cackling under their breaths.  The Stagg Bowl is being played in the West, huh?  Well MUC looks about at strong and balanced as a team can get.  Kind of like looking at Tiger's stats.

* If the cliche that 'offense wins games and defense wins championships' is true, then there is plenty of offensive firepower to go around, but only two glaring standouts on D:  MUC and SJU.  I think my d3football pickems might come up trumps (on the Stagg, anyway).  And that game?  Well, Gags has it all figured out.
