So how many of you would kick Jessica out of bed if she wanted to jump in with you?

I can safely say that I would kick her out of my bed! 8) I wouldn't mind having a drink with her, but no cosmos for me. ;)

Hey KR,

How is your wife doing? I hope you are taking good care of her. Moving sucks... moving and being pregnant can't be fun!  :)

Mrs.KR is pregnant? :o

News to me!!!!

She's doing well with the move, and as far as I know, her uterus is still empty! I'll go ask though.

Hmmm...for some reason I thought you had said she was pregnant. I am apparently older and more senile than I realized. With the day I have been having, I am going to need a very large drink when I get home. That probably won't help with my memory either! :-\

You apparently aren't familiar with the Buffalo Herd theory of drinking:

Well you see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo and when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive drinking of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

I'm on holidays with the family this week so was taking a bit of time off (I'll post a pick at some point to play 'Where am I?'), but when quickly checking my email a friend sent me a pic that had flash written all over it, so post it I must.

The KR family is finally getting cable! As such the 12 year old TV we're currently using is in need of a replacement.

MrsKR has hinted in less than subtle terms that I'm getting a TV for my birthday, and I have no fricking clue what I want/need in a TV. I know I want HD. That's a given.

As such I am enlisting the most HD savvy group of alcoholics guys I know for advice.

Any advice on plasma vs flat screen vs LCD vs other?
Any brands better than others?

Best advice gets an all expenses paid trip from the San Diego airport to the new KR krib and 3 nights free stay on a sweet double tall queen size air mattress... and MrsKR is throwing in home cooking and/or cookies.

Phew. I thought I had missed a whole stream of posting. KR and the Mrs. becoming parents will be a big deal, and I wondered why I wasn't tuned in to that. Now I know I am not totally senile, yet.  8)

Cuz KR-
Definitely flat panel LCD, not plasma. Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Pioneer, all are good. Stay away from the store brands. Go to Best Buy and Circuit City and see what you like, then shop the internet. I found this 32" Sharp Aquos on icraveit.com. It's about half what you'd pay at a store and I'm real close to pulling the trigger on one for the gee-rodge.
You may never have children.

Herr Doktor,
Do a search of the LLPP for HD TV's and maybe plasma or LCD.  This discussion has happened a couple of times.  Frank Rossi posted some really good information about HD TV's, I don't think it is even a year old.  Might help you out some.

Gas prices, the economy,.....minor problems. I live about 2 miles out of town. On the county road about 300 yards from my house is a bar/restaurant. Naturaly, I'm a regular there.  THE CHEF QUIT!!!!! We're talking the best oyster rock, and the best scallops in the history of food, plus a great german menu. Besides that, beer is only 2.50 a bottle, and the bartenders are hot. You can imagine this is just an awful day for me. Please keep me in your prayers as I await the outcome of this dreadful situation.

Flash I can feel your pain.  I have a water hole about 70 yards from my place.  Its has great food, ugly bartenders, and cold beer.  They have a nice little floating dock in the middle of the river where you can go get crap faced on a lazy Saturday afternoon and feel like you on a boat.  I have just been told in the last week that they are moving to a new location.  Supposedly the neighborhood is tired of their noise and racket.  Its a classless and tasteless place, but so am I and the two of us were peas in a pods.

No dock in the middle of the river but KS has a bar/chinese restaurant about 50 yards away, just around the corner.  Still cheap, about 2.50 for domestic, 3.50 for a Becks.  They also have some of the best fried chicken wings.  Less than 20.00 and KS is hammered and full.  There have actually been a couple of complaints about the place recently.  They have started to build condos in the middle of the working class neighborhood and places like this draw an unsavory crowd.  KS is kind of unsavory, must be why KS likes the crowd.  Plus half the crowd works in maintenance and housekeeping at NJCU and KS has known them for years.  Fun people and good music on juke, classic rock, classic R&B and a ton of Sinatra.

KR, I am also in the market for a flat panel HDTV.  My brother has a high end Sony LCD that is two years old and my dad has a high end Samsung that is last year's model.  They are both great on brightness and detail and lack of light reflection but there are three things I did not like while watching both of them for a significant amount of time.

1)  There does tend to be a blurring on fast action.  The newer Samsung is better than the one year older Sony on this.  For example, the flight of a golf ball may blur slightly.  This is probably also true in non HD but then the background in non HD is not as sharp anyway so the difference will not be as noticeable.

2)  If you watch a lot of channels that are not HD you may be very disappointed.  My brother immediately went out and got HD when he bought his because the standard broadcast was so bad.  Same with my dad's.  As I surfed through channels there were some that looked like a Monet painting.

3)  Color accuracy can be odd.  Especially grass color.

I'm sure some of this can be improved by making adjustments with the set and probably minimizes as you add more gizmo's to the set and increase price.

I have also read that these are not problems or as big of problems with plasma.  And, having once owned a CRT HD I know they were never issues, and that set was 5 years ago.  Course it was also 125 lbs heavier too.

Some people seem to really like projection and if you are looking at something in the 50+ inch range (which I am not), that also should be in the mix.  This is a lot harder decision to make than buying a car or a house or finding a wife all of which will cost you more money and cause more headaches over the years.

LCD for sure. Almost all of them are good these days. Toshiba, Sony Samsung and Panasonic are top of the line. Sharp can be the best but some models aren't. Vizio, Ilo and Olevio from WalMart are pretty darn good at half the price. I have a Panasonic that I got at Wally World and it is fantastic. Also got a smaller Polaroid at Wally World at a ridiculously low price that has a very good picture but not as many bells & whistles. I would go to Best Buy if I had more money than sense (Circuit City has a bad return policy but is OK if you are sure of what you want). For me, I would go to WalMart (Target?), which I did, look at what they had on display and pick on what has a good picture at a good price. Make sure the set is HD or at least HD ready(whatever that is). Wally World return policy closes the deal for me but you probably can't get the most expensive one there but they do have excellent Panasonic, Samsung and Toshibas.

We have both a Panasonic and LG.  Both are great pictures.  I would say that for the money saved Panasonic is a better value.  I think a lot depends on the size you want and what is available.  Many retail outlets have good deals.  American in Des Moines just had a deal that for 36 months interest free.  For a $1,000 TV your payments would be less than $30 a month.  Not to bad for an LT's pay.   ;D ;D ;D ;D  Good luck on the purchase.

Sorry on the news that you are old and senile.  That happens with age.  Get used to it now.  When the 4 kids come and a hubby you will find out how fast you can loose the mind.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you are going to pay cash for the TV, then I strongly suggest opening up a Costco memebership and buying it there.  I went around to about every place possible before I bought mine, and Costco had them all beat by $300.

Here is what I found out in the process.  All of the screens are made by one company, Phillips.  From there everyone puts their bells and whistles on them and makes them specific to their company.  In the end a lot of them are the same until you get to he lower teired tv's.

The number one TV retailer in the USA right now is Vizio.  I ended up buying a Phillips because I felt like I got a better tv for a bit more money than the Vizio.

Good luck in  your television shopping.

Nope, apparently it is just me that is senile! :D

Speaking of crazy, one of my friends has a daughter that just announced that she is planning to get married next March...outdoors...in Oregon! Well hello rain and 40 degree weather!! At least she is getting married at a vineyard so while I might be wet and cold, I can at least be drunk too! 8)

Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle. The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front of her at the same time.
The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in return.
Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, "The first one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me."
The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and says, "I love liver and cheese."
"Oh, how childish," said the Poodle. "That shows no imagination or intelligence whatsoever."
She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says, "How well can you do?"
"Um. I HATE liver and cheese," blurts the Golden Retriever.
"My, my," said the Poodle. "I guess it's hopeless. That's just as dumb as the Lab's sentence."
She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, "How about you, little guy?"
The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse, is the Taco Bell Chihuahua. He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever and the Lab and says.

    "Liver alone. Cheese mine.
