Looks like Caruso is already making an impact at UST.  From the Strib today: Tommies to be give pause to Gagliardi.

"Maybe I'll retire before he plays for the Tommies," Gagliardi groaned.

It's obvious the reporter doesn't know Gags at all. This is the same coach who claims to get nervous before playing Hamline and Macalaster.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

4TH OF JULY POEM

I wish you all a HAPPY FOURTH.
I'd like to tell you now
Get a pencil; write this down
I'm gonna tell you how.

Pass it on to all your friends
Just tell them what you heard.
The way to have a happy FOURTH
Is buy a FIFTH on the THIRD!
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

That's not an article, it's the fantasies from the cheer squad.  The fact is that if STU becomes even remotely competitive it will be declared the fall of Gags and the rise of the mighty St. Thomas by the Strib.  A good (or even great) quarterback and a RB that busted a long run do not a championship team make.

And does anyone really believe that the first Gags knew of Morse going to St Thomas was when Mike Grant announces it in front of a reporter?  Sounds to me like a fanciful memory rather than an accurate record of what occurred.  I would suspect that the Tribune's marketing dept figures there are more dollars in STU alum reading the sports section that in Johnnie alum (getting their news from 47 sources including the SC Times), and so support must be ginned up.

Snooze.

As suspected.  For all breaking news, read post patterns...

The rich apparently get richer....I spent part of my day at the Magic Invitational Tournament in Bloomington today and was told that St. Thomas is also getting a commitment from 6-7 Como Park senior Greg Morse.  Morse will play both hoops and the pigskin for the Tommies.

The question now becomes will either Morse or Leslie be able to crack the rotation, both have great reputations...

For old hash trumped up as reporting?  See the Strib.

And, in case you all missed it, SJU is ranked #5 in both the USA Today (rankings by PC, apparently) and the Sporting News preseason football polls.

(I missed where St Thomas was ranked, but it must be at 3 or 4 with all the fits they are giving Gags this year...)

My sources inform me Wonka was observed at the Red Smith Award Luncheon in Minneapolis Friday woefully under dressed in Gustie gear.  No word yet if he was ready to call plays.

Two English businessmen in London were sitting down for a break in their Soon-to-be new store. As yet, the store wasn't ready, with only a few shelves set up. One said To the other, 'I bet any minute now some idiot tourist is going to walk by, put his face to the window, and ask what we're selling.?'

No sooner were the words out of his mouth when, sure enough, a curious  Irishman walked to the window, had a peek, and in a thick Irish accent asked  'What might ye be sellin' here?'

One of the men replied sarcastically, 'We're selling assholes.' Without Skipping a beat, the Irishman said, 'You're doing well ... Only two left!'

TGIM

Toward the end of Sunday service, the Minister asked, 'How many of you have forgiven your enemies?'

80% held up their hands.

The Minister then repeated his question.

All responded this time, except one small elderly lady.

'Mrs. Neely?' the minister said, in some suprise, 'Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?'

I don't have any.' She replied, smiling sweetly.

'Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual. How old are you?'

'Ninety-eight.' she replied.

'Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world?'

The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the congregation, and said:

       'I outlived the bitches.'

That was hilarious!!

On Friday night a friend and I went to the Festival and watched the opening ceremonies on big screens in the beer garden area. The best part was that they had invited members of the 1980 team to a reunion and to be introduced as part of the ceremony. The Trials were held in Eugene in 1980 and this was a nice way to pay tribute to a team that never got to go to the Olympics (because of the boycott). It gave me chills to see athletes like Alberto Salazar, Mary Decker Slaney (who lives in Eugene so it wasn't much of a trip for her), Edwin Moses, and Willie Gault (who looked damn good!!). I only hope that being here was as special for them as it was for those of us who had the privilege to see it. :)

This will hopefully be a good day for me.

Veterans of the MIACPP may recall that last August my family's home was trashed in a major storm making the house unihabitable.

We moved into an old cabin next door for a few months, then bought a new house across the lake as they continued to rebuild the old one.

Just before X-Mas our old home was finally finished, and we put it on the market.

Today at 3:00pm we are finally supposed to close on it, 10 1/2 months from the original storm. Takes awhile to get the world put back together after something like that.

Plus the final piece of the puzzle: My new dock is being installed today.   8)

Let it all happen as scheduled! And thanks MIACPP for your support and advice throughout this ordeal. We even had the one serious post ever by flash.  ;)

What about The University of Oregon's own Mac Wilkins?  He worked for me when I was in Seattle.  Still bitter at Jimmy Carter.  He's sure he would have won Gold again in 1980.

Yep, Mac was there too! He is apparently coaching some of the athletes in the Trials as is Alberto Salazar. I have tickets for todays events so it is a half day at work today! I will try to behave myself so that I don't end up on the news tonight! ;D
