Yep, Mac was there too! He is apparently coaching some of the athletes in the Trials as is Alberto Salazar. I have tickets for todays events so it is a half day at work today! I will try to behave myself so that I don't end up on the news tonight! ;D

Keep an eye out for "Girls Gone Wild in Eugene: Olympic Trials Edition".  Coming soon to secluded corners in the back of fine video rental shops everywhere. ;)

I remember being really disappointed about the 80' summer Olympics.  I was looking forward to the US kicking Commie Butt right before entering boot camp.

This will hopefully be a good day for me.

Veterans of the MIACPP may recall that last August my family's home was trashed in a major storm making the house unihabitable.

We moved into an old cabin next door for a few months, then bought a new house across the lake as they continued to rebuild the old one.

Just before X-Mas our old home was finally finished, and we put it on the market.

Today at 3:00pm we are finally supposed to close on it, 10 1/2 months from the original storm. Takes awhile to get the world put back together after something like that.

Plus the final piece of the puzzle: My new dock is being installed today.   8)

Let it all happen as scheduled! And thanks MIACPP for your support and advice throughout this ordeal. We even had the one serious post ever by flash.  ;)

I hope you walk out on your new dock to take a leak and a bat bites you right on the ......   :D

Hope all goes as planned, BDB!  When's the kegger? :D

Oh, no. Based on your advice, flash, all of those bad boys were rounded up and shipped off to Janesville. No way they are taking a chomp on the angry inch.

BDB....congrats...living large on the lake with a private dock.  Sounds like party city to me.

Off to Lake Havasu to chill, drink beer, catch some stripers, or is it strippers, and watch all the young girls take off their tops.  Dark sunglasses and very baggy swimsuits will be in order.

As we speak, BDB is sitting down at the table, signing over the deed to Casa de BDB I, then taking the check, stopping at the bank, then the liquor store for a fresh box of Hamm's, before landing at Casa de BDB II for some brewskis on the new dock.

I'd highly recommend retreating to the den around 7:10 for the Twins/Kittens game.

I apologize in advance if this has been talked about alread.... Frank has a piece in his BLOG about the annual SJU Kick-off Luncheon . Date is August 7th this year.

Congrats on the end of the turbulence, BDB!

Snoop I am jealous.  That is a great place and wish I could go back soon.  Lets hope I do not see you on Tru tv being arrested for "illegal tent pitching" :o :o :o

Klop...my tent is a 40 ft Camelot Monaco motorhome with direct tv and leather chairs.  Roughing it has never been one of my favorite things and the Party Cat is gassed and waiting for launching.

jans.......I had a few more explicative phrases than that yesterday when I filled it up with gas.  In fact, I drew a crowd at the pumps.  The crowd was taking bets if I would throw up before I would fill up.  I threw up first.

If anyone is interested in a discussion re: Johnnie football (I know it's a bit of pain because who the hell cares during the summer anyway), I've got a topic I wouldn't mind getting a little air.

I had a short discussion with another fella about the fact that St. John's recruiting methods may hit a dry patch with the demographics of central Minn changing a bit and USTD making a big push into the Catholic schools for recruits (coupled with their... uh... aggressive... financing offers) which may impact our ability to pull top talent with the low-key methods we use.

Rather than discuss what method is better, etc, I was wondering what the impact on the culture of the Johnnie program would be with a recruiting change.  If we change our recruiting from a "we target these schools and these geographies and let the best from elsewhere find us" to a, for example, "we'll go out and grab specific guys we want, be they from non-Catholic leagues or even Florida", will that change the culture of the guys we have playing?  And change the culture to the detriment of the program?

It seems to me that a real benefit of the Johnnie program is that the players tend to be more mature and independent than the typical sports standout.  Only players that want to play football enough to pursue St John's end up at St. John's.  And only the players that work hard and well enough on the optional extras usually make the playing surface.  If we start chasing around for the "superstars" and then give them this big list of "No's", will those superstars have the maturity to maximize their potential in the "No's" program?

The real question is: Is it better for SJU to recruit character or talent?
