Very funny Oz...+k   How did you end up in Oz land anyway?

Well... the short version is:

A charming US Sailor once met a fine looking young Aussie lass on a Thai beach...  Bada-bing, bada-boom, next thing you know they are married and living in Australia.

I absolutley love the bada-bing, bada boom.  One of my all time favs! ;)

Those Iowa boys are really working the pre-season analysis and have inspired me to do a bit of my own.

So, using the National Sports Rankings 'Head-to-Head match-up' tool that has been getting a bit of a promotion around the boards, here is SJU's 2008 season based on '07 match-ups:

GameProjected ScoreMargin of Victory25 Game Playoff
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
@SJU v ETBUSJU 34 ETBU 1321 PointsSJU wins 25 of 25 (SJU)
@SJU v UW-RFSJU 31 UW-RF 1318 PointsSJU wins 23 of 25 (SJU)

@SJU v GACSJU 29 GAC 1811 PointsSJU wins 23 of 25 (SJU)

SJU v @CARSJU 31 CAR 1318 PointsSJU wins 25 of 25 (SJU)

I have no idea how the match-ups are calculated, but regardless it shows a challenging season.  Even though we have six home games this year, it looks like we hit the toughest games on the road (except for CC, I guess).  Let's hope the magic comes together well this fall, we'll need a pretty good chemistry by week 5 when the season is decided.

(Of course, we didn't need this tool to figure out the last two sentences of analysis, but whatever.)

I spotted Ritz72 at a wedding in Collegeville and Finsleft at a wedding in St. Joe this Saturday :o  Fins was enjoying the open bar at the new Gorecki Center at St. Ben's, which is pretty impressive :)  I would recommend a visit if you haven't seen it yet.

Veek, Ritzy...you boys alright up there? Shooting this morning at the Morrison County Courthhouse in Little Falls. And yes, Veek, the gunman is our old pal GW.
Hope everybody is OK.

Getting caught up a little...

Mywife's office is 50 feet from the room the shooting took place in.  In her words a cop in TAC gear, who happens to be a friend, runs by her door and yells at my wife to get down.  A few minutes later, shouting and gun shots.  Talk about not having a good day at work!  sHE WAS  pretty shook up for a while.

Well who wasn't? A good gathering of Johnnies on Saturday. Great to see Mr. & Mrs. Duff, Mr. & Mrs. Wooderson, Mr. & Mrs. VOJ, and many others. Ritzy, didn't get to see you, but I sensed your presence.

Well who wasn't?

I know the tap Guiness was tasting pretty good ;D

Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. "Wooderson" and the new Mr. and Mrs. Dumonceaux!  My favorite part of the Dumonceaux wedding was the ring bearer bringing up the rings in a tackle box :D

You made a good choice going to Wooderson's reception.  I was stuck with the Mrs.'s coworkers at the reception.  IN addition, no open bar, EVERY  bridesmaid and groomsman gave a little speech and the 30 minute slide show was nice, but not for the reception.  We left before the dance started (8:30), headed to Granite City for some tastey micro's (my good friend is the brewmeister there), and were home by 10 in LF.  Had I known Wooderson's was going on at CSB might have crashed it!

On a side note... The bar was not even open during dinner, speeches and slide show (3.5 hours)

ALso sorry to miss the golf outing.  Playing in the SJU Alumni Outing today!

DUFF..

I was cursing you for taking off, not showing to the reception, etc.. but now I have removed the pin from your brain on the voodoo doll knowing you were at a much better place than I was!

Funniest thing I picked up on during the speeches...

Dumo seemed to get more emotional talking about playing in his last football game than talking about his new bride!!  TRUE Johnnie FB!!

Welcome back, Ritzy.

Funniest thing at Wooderson's: at reception, Fr. Jim Tingerthal, whose middle name must be "Ramble" after his performance in church, started his preamble to the prayer,  guy at table behind me let out a loud fake snore. Two tables of guests trying not to laugh through the whole rest of the looong prayer. Hilarious!

Re: golf
One more opportunity for Johnnie golfers coming up August 25 at Albany. Pete & Tony's Excellent Golf Adventure. Been a couple of years since I've attended, but it's a good time. I'm planning on it this year. Anyone else?

Had to try it out for myself.  Some thoughts.  1- This is obviously just some computer program using stats from the two teams and therefore about as useful as the BCS computers at giving an accurate projection of teams (aka - fun, but hardly in the realm of reality) 2- I did BU v AUG twice because they play at a neutral site (Metrodome) and there is no real home field advantage 3- Computer has no way of accurately assessing actual home field advantage.  It is a much greater advantage when SJU plays at home then when Hamline does - their historical home field records bare this out, but I doubt the computer takes this into consideration at all 4- This is the biggest unconsidered variable...these are the 2007 versions of the teams.  The computer is not taking into consideration graduation losses, returning starters, coaching changes, transfers, significant position changes (i.e. new QB), etc. 5- This is probably far more accurate for early season games than for mid & late season games. For example, if BU enters the final reg. season game 9-0 or 8-1 v. AUG 7-2 or 6-3 I would project a very different game than BU 9-0 v. AUG 5-4 or BU 6-3 v. AUG 6-3.  Bottom line, by the end of the season a teams success or lack there of will have a significant affect on their confidence, the importance of the game, etc.

But this was still fun to look at...is it football season yet?

PS.  for what it's worth....
BU@BVU          BU 26 BVU 16        10 points         21 of 25 BU
BU @Central    BU 22 Central 21      1 point          13 of 25 BU
BU @MUC         MUC 25 BU 16         9 points         20 of 25 MUC

So SJU is going to score no more than 34 points, and only score over 30 in four games? :o  Hmmm.  I don't think so.
