FISH PICTURES!
Okay - first of all, these are not 330 lb yellow watchamacallits, just a few walleye (and one smally if you see it).

Next, I need to show that #2 son caught a few himself.  One of his roommates has started an official Fishing Club at SJU; I told him these might qualify him for an 8 day license to participate.

And now, the big ones I caught the previous day.  One was in the 23 to 24" range; all were good and fat - and flavorful.  I'm now spoiled for eating walleye in a restaurant

Another look:

The key to fishing success was being in the canoe with the guide, who knew how to keep it moving just into the current with one arm (while he fished with the other) so we could keep the hooks bumping along the bottom.  I was with the guide the first day; #2 was with him the second day - and thus the fish.

We also caught a couple of pretty large Northerns, which we let go.

Finally, in the world of coincidence, on the way out on the last day, as we waited for our high speed transportation (below) to finish its portage on Lac LaCroix (the rail system they have for the portages is amazing - wish we'd had them in the Quetico!), we ran into two of #2 son's roommates - Bobby Klint and another kid.  They were simply walking along the shore as we came down the hill to meet the boat.  Hard to believe.

tmert, no walleye in a restaurant will ever be as good as what you ate over the campfire.  Nice pics by the way and thanks for posting them.

Where are you finding these, Oz - Beijing Tokyo [#2 son advises me that these are Japanese kanji, not Chinese] or Adelaide?

Congrats on your retirement, stanbob.  See you at a SJU game this year?

Retirement - what a beautiful word - yet the horizon keeps receding ...  :P

Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them..."

What they're really good for, though, is the heavy lifting in portaging - a pack and a canoe or double packing ...

They worked together so well ... ;)

It's good to see the boys taking a break from their labors.  That work looked pretty dam tiring.

Har! Har!

Tmerton, great photos!  Thanks for sharing.  I have not been to the BWCA in a long time.  I need to get back there.

Tmert, Thanks for the pics! I figured you were smart, releasing the snot rockets confirms it!!!

I will second or third the opinion, once you have had walleye for shore lunch you will never order it in a restaurant again.
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

A man staggered into a hospital with a concussion, multiple bruises, two black eyes, and a five-iron wrapped tightly around his throat.

Naturally, the Doctor asked him, "What happened to you?"

"Well, I was having a quiet round of golf with my wife, when at a difficult hole, we both sliced our balls into a cow pasture.  We went to look for them and while I was looking around, I noticed one of the cows had something white at it's rear end.

I walked over, lifted it's tail, and sure enough, there was a golf ball with my wife's monogram on it, stuck right in the middle of the cow's butt.

Still holding the cow's tail up, I yelled to my wife, "Hey, this looks like yours!'

I don't remember much after that."
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.
