I was thinking about the long bus ride ahead of me this weekend when I went to the Cobber's website and saw that they have a fan bus as well.  Will SJU run a fan bus out there too if that is the matchup?  Which airport(s) would it be logical to fly into in terms of cost and distance from the Catdome?  It seems like with a $200 bus ticket, a day of missed work and lodging it might be more cost effective to fly.

Did you all notice that if SJU advances to the semi's that the game will be at home since Thiel didn't apply to host more than 1 game and Trinity is out?

If anyone is looking to go to the game but save some cash, I have a seat open.

For $20, you get a luxurious ride in Duffman's 2004 Honda Accord.  Leaving the Twin Cities area between 4 and 4:30 am Saturday and returning after the game.  As of now, I have myself and 2 2003 players.  E-mail or PM me if interested.

That bus-ride from MN to OR is going to be looong. Way long. So long you may cry out "Why did I not fly????"

The only place to fly to is Portland (PDX). Less than an hour from linfield.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

I don't want to discount Concordia (or WW), but if the Johnnies are going to be out here next week, there is a good chance that I will be up in Portland Friday/Saturday and could pick people up at the airport. I have a Civic EX coupe, so space will be limited! ;)

Dusty,

Should've figured you'd also take your blog post to the message board. Man, Johnnie fans are all about trying to find insult in anything this week!

Here's my blog response. I have to re-post it here since you are misrepresenting my blog post here as well.

Interesting response — I don't think you got the points of my post:

1) Fans — remember, this award doesn't just measure football prowess, so don't refer to it as the Division III Heisman.
2) Voters — remember this year, your voting instructions say to vote on football prowess.
3) This is a great award. We need an award that exemplifies the spirit of Division III.

I made no such implication about this year's finalist class. I listed the information included on each from the press releases because there was not room to do so on the front page of the site.

I think you're reading waaay too far into this if you're searching for potential insults to the award.

Mighty Royal, the Stiftungsfest burger has been shipped all the way to North Pole, Alaska as a wedding gift for a member of the PLU `99 national champions. It has been driven to Salem, VA by Kilted Rat for the `03 Stagg Bowl. We can get it to any place in the world, even to Mongolia if requested. ;D

I guess I didn't find Pat's article insulting, but I was a little disappointed in the fact that the other factors should be considered to "break ties" only.  I am not saying that a second string place holder should have equal opportunity at the award, but I thought the other factors were supposed to count a little more.  If the other factors simply break ties, the award is really close to a DIII Heisman, you just get a couple more items to consider before flipping a coin.  What ever the case may be, I think with the blurbs they send out, the other factors tend to get a little bit more weight  Undoubtedly, it is a great award honoring a legendary coach.

Dusty--

Take the Under Armor off----it is restricting the blood flow to your brain.

I too have read deeply into the article (in a vain attempt to find something insulting, as we Johnnies do!!!), and am not seeing your argument.

the irritational sensitivity of my close personal friend Dusty.

I'm sure I'll get over it after Dumo wins the trophy.   ;)

SUMMIT!!!!!

I've always been under the impression that the Gagliardi Award, while recognizing the best of D3 football, also takes into consideration the other aspects of D3 life that separate D3 from the football factories in D1, I-AA & 2, namely academic excellence and community involvement. This fits Pat's statements about the award exemplifying what D3 is all about.

My two cents worth The award was/is designed to honor excellence in all three apscts-- football, academcis and community. The spirit of the award is what is so special and wonderfual abouf D3. Let's hope the voters remember this balance of athletic, academic and community service when they cast their ballots and do not turn this into a "just football success" award.
