Starting today, I intend to do what I can to help the USA in the standings.

They're doing something right in Finland.  Must have been a cold winter.

The Spy Report has been posted at Johnniefootball.com.

Ok ok, who created the Poll at the top of the page?

EDIT: I believe it is missing a choice for Veek as he diligently prepares for his Arts and Crafts Festival.

Nice work TDT!

I hope tmerton feels we're doing our job....

Was just wondering, when I move back to Minnesota next month, can I keep my bumper sticker that reads  " Alaska:  Coolest State, Hottest Governor"?

We may have to have a beauty-pageant showdown between Sarah Palin and Jennifer Granholm! ;)  Besides, Juneau's a lot warmer than much of Minnesota or North Dakota.
Only in the winter, Ypsi.

Just checked 'Weatherbase.com":

Average temperature for the year: Juneau, 41; International Falls, 37.

(I.F. is warmer in the summer, but MUCH colder in the winter.)

I was talking coolest, not coldest  :D,  but as far as cold I am willing to bet as much Hamm's as you would like on Interior Alaska being colder than I.F.,  double or nothing on Prudhoe Bay!

I took a swim in 34 degree water at Prudhoe Bay in late June a few summers ago.  The air wasn't much warmer  :o

Times, they are a changin'.  I don't know if you all caught this, but the Johnnies have a new 'fight' anthem.  An article about it is here at the SC Times, and they have a link to a bit of it here.

It rocks a bit and I think it will grow on me pretty easily.

It will be interesting to hear the whole thing.  The snippet they posted was a little cheesy.  I like the idea of opening with the tolling Abbey bells, though ;D

I have to admit I played it for the missus and she put a big damper on my buzz.  I was all excited and such and then she goes and says it sounds like the theme to a cop show based in Hawaii.

I think JohnnieFootball.com ought to start advertising in the Daily Planet to let people know where they can find actual coverage of Johnnie football.

Hopefully everyone is getting fired up for the Stiftungfestivities season opener this Saturday in Collegeville. We will be starting the party around 9:00 a.m. with the grills going by 10:00 a.m. I already have the pork patties from Rucks Meat Market in Belle Plaine in the freezer and will be ordering the Stiftungsfest burger tomorrow. Bring a culinary delight to share. Fans making the trip up from Texas are more than welcome to join us. We are located in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field.

Nice finish for the state amateur baseball tournament yesterday. Dundas beat Mankato in the first game of the Class B championship 3-2 to require a second game, which Mankato won 8-3 to take the title. Elko beat Sauk Rapids for the Class C title 5-2 in Shakopee. We had over 14,000 fans in attendance for the tournament. To make the event even more memorable, the Paris Hilton cd was played during the field preparation. :o

Where's Fins?  Was he down in the Cities yesterday? ::)
Don't know about Fins, but the missus and I were at the march and have a celebrity sighting to report.  As we were walking around looking for confrontations to watch we came upon Jon Stewart walking up a side street with a bodyguard appearing type companion.  Not quick enough to get out the phone-cam and get proof, but he did shake my hand after I hailed him.  Good firm grip.

So you turned a perfectly good Kodak Moment into a mere Snoop Moment.

Guess so.  I was thinking about Snoop at the time.  I've never met Snoop.  Maybe he was the guy with Stewart. :D

TC

I see you lurking, AO.  You wanna do a quick SJU schedule check with me and see if you can pick out the 4 games you'll inevitably predict the Johnnies to lose this year?

Jumping back a few topics, regarding the MIAC pick 'ems this year:  because it is difficult/time consuming for someone or a group of people to set lines each week I have an alternative.  Each poster sets their own line.  Example:  St. Thomas at St. John's, I set the line at St. John's by 35 points.  If the Johnnies win and cover the line, I get 35 points.  If the Johnnies lose or win and don't cover I get zero.  Obviously, the higher line you set, the higher the potential payoff if you're right.

Each poster who wants to be in the contest sets the line for every game of the week featuring an MIAC team, plus a pre-selected regional and national game.  You can pick one game as your "lock" and points are doubled.  Points are kept for the whole season, etc., etc.  It should actually be somewhat easy to score with a simple spreadsheet.

If people are interested in doing this instead of or in addition to the normal Pick 'Em I'd be happy to run it.

Also, anyone interested in an MIAC Survivor Pool (in addition to Pick 'Em)?  It should be easy enough to just throw our survivor in with our normal weekly picks.

Ain't nothin' like blowing crap up at the cabin.

After a few beers this weekend, I decided to see what a shotgun would do to one of those little cans of Stite Lite.  Very impressive, in my mind.  Yes, I realize I could have thrown it into the air and shot it, but that would be harder to tape, and I am not that great of a shot, so I would have wasted several beers in the process.

No, I did not bring the Stite Lite with.  It's not good, and that is why I shot the can.

Yes, my bro-in-law needs to learn how to hold the camera steady.
