Big news outta Chula Vista, CA coming soon.  Dusty SJU has really outdone himself this time.  He must be still recovering from a big night at the RNC...

Closed Circuit to the Mayor: I'll be picking up the slack for Veek this week (Ho hum what is new).  I have approximately 2-3 dozen specialty brats that I'll be bringing.  Make sure the Kool-Aid is cold and don't let LBean beat you out to Collegeville (pretty embarrassing since he comes from St. Paul).

The highlight last night was shaking Dick Morrris's hand... ouhhh, I better wash it quick!

Mike Huckabee teaming with country legends "Alabama" at "The Spin" wasn't bad either...

I'm off to print a few pages of the www.JohnnieFootball.com redesigned website!

Go to the symphony in Melbourne for some real Oz-style culture.
Ah, Oz will cringe, but that vid brings back fond, fond memories of a month Down Under when dinner was often VB and Magnum bars ...

Pick em's are up and ready for this week.  Sorry for the delay.

If anyone would like to help with handicapping each week let me know.  The pay's not that great, but it's kind of fun.

Thanks

I didn't play last year, but would like to give it a shot this year, could anyone provide a link to the pick ems?
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Do we have to sign up or something?  Or just show up each week with the picks?

Very interesting:  At least according to the ETBU Game Preview Michael Crees has risen from the dead (well, severely injured, at least) to the top of the QB depth charts for the season opener.  I'm sure we'll still see all three QBs--let's just hope we see more Alex Kofoed than Zach Vertin out of them...

If the preseason two-deeps are to be any guide, there are a few surprises in store.  Jakob Reding, a transfer from Air Force, looks to fill one of the holes in the backfield starting alongside Jeff Schnobrich.  It will be interesting to see if Reding (a fullback prior to coming to St. John's) or Schnobrich (last year's featured blocking back) get the majority of the carries.  The only freshman to show up on the two-deeps so far is backup center Drew Schultz from New York Mills.

In addition to Reding, three other transfers look to have pretty meaty roles this weekend.  Erik Kottom (U of M and Wyoming) is listed as the starter at left guard while the two defensive linemen from NDSU, Jimmy Sharpe and Jeff Bohlman are listed as first and second string, respectively, at one D-End position.  (Be sure to check www.JohnnieFootball.com tomorrow afternoon for a more in-depth look at the Johnnie defense!)

Don't look now but Lil' Tmert is healthy and charging up the depth charts!  He's listed as the top backup at a linebacker position and it sounds like the coaching staff is looking for creative ways to get him on the field.  Never underestimate the Cali-to-Collegeville pipeline!

I am an old fart as evidenced by today's announcement of one from my earliest memories.

And no one has mentioned yet that Jerry Reed was robbed of an Oscar as Supporting Actor in "Smokey and the Bandit" The ultimate sidekick role. RIP.

Another close game with the twins and another blown save by Nathan.  I hope the twins will do better soon or else no playoffs!

Ok, first things first.  Well done Ritzy.  See you bright and early Saturday morning toting a case of refreshing Hamm's.

Next, I spoke with the Polish King of Chicago earlier this afternoon.  We had a good discussion of what to expect from the 2008 Johnnies.  He mentioned 2 things that stood out for me:

1. "Veek at the Arts and Crafts Festival, What the hell is that about? He better show up the following Saturday with a skirt on" BOL this is verbatim
2. "I think I spotted ROR at out the RNC in St. Paul fighting with the cops...." PK of Chicago then emailed this pic as proof
